Jim Harbaugh freshman DTs are "very close" to breaking through
This should be a breath of fresh air for everyone wondering why a fullback is playing at DT

WR is pretty strong for thee foreseeable future.
Black, CJ, Bell, Jackson, Sainristil Wilson, Henning, 1tbd. Assuming we lose Nico/DPJ
Lack of depth at DT is a head scratcher. It seems Mazi may be heading for a RS.

We can safely exclude the true freshmen in next year's group:
Black,CJ, Bell, Jackson, Sainristil.
This WR group has combined for 3 career TDs and less yards than (1) par 5 hole.
Add a new QB and 3-4 new OL. Next year's offense will be very..interesting.

That's a strong statement..... +1
one that should go without saying, until you read 2/3's of the comments and then you realize it needs said.
Imagine that, our coaches want to win more than we want them to win, because we're just fans they're professionals who's job it is to win games.

Why are there no DT’s in the ‘20 class?
October 1st, 2019 at 9:12 AM ^
Because it’s a huge need this year....bpone.

Because we're taking a bunch of DEs that we're planning on converting to DTs

I seem to recall OSU worked us in 2016? with a number of freshmen in their defensive unit

Is your user name meant to be ironic?

Worked us? No. Managed to sneak out a victory between an injured Speight and referee help.
Nonetheless, they pulled it off with some freshmen.

Don't ever mention that game again.

Not talked about much, but Luiji Vilain played relatively early in the game and made a play. Would like to see some of the younger ends (Upshaw and Welschof especially) start to get some buzz.

Please! Didn't we get pushed around enough against Wisconson. Villain is listed at 243 Lbs. We can't play him till he puts on some weight.

As much as I’d love to believe this, I’ll believe it when I see it. A freshman coming in at DT and excelling is pretty unheard of. Even Solomon struggled as a true Freshman and he’s pretty dang good.
That said, it’s gotta be better than a 250lb Mason right? I mean the man is an absolute monster and has made some of my favorite ST plays ever but let’s be honest - he can’t push around 320lb behemoths. He is human after all.

And yet Mcgrone and Daxton finally saw the field and made plays.

Kemp's comments are encouraging.

Brown...
Here's the deal with him: When he got the Michigan DC gig, he thought he could finally out athlete offenses. This is something he was never able to do at BC and he just couldn't help himself. That's my theory anyway. He really needs to recalibrate his approach and I'm actually seeing signs of him doing just that.
I've never been a fan of his aggressive style for two reasons: it makes life too easy for good QBs. Ask any good QB what type of coverage they would like to see and most will say m2m. Second, it doesn't create enough turnovers. Yes you get the occasional Jordan Lewis playing receiver and making the great catch but rarely do you see a QB get fooled into throwing the ball right into the lap of a linebacker.
I guess I just prefer a more cerebral approach to defense. Hopefully Brown continues to mix it up. I know he's capable of doing it.

for everyone wondering why a fullback is playing at DT
I'm not wondering why. He has no chance to get to the pros as a FB. He has a chance to make it there as a DT, if he develops. There's not much time left for him.
