Four FGs, including 2 from 51 yards led the West team to a 12-3 victory.

PatsPulpit agrees Moody's audition before the Patriots' coaches made a strong impression:

"Moody was the main man for the West squad being responsible for all of their points and earning offensive MVP honors. He nailed a pair of 51-yard field goals - with room to spare - and later added two 35 yarders to put the game away. With New England potentially in the market for a kicker, the former Wolverine made a strong impression."

Moody only scored all the points for the “West” Shrine squad.   So, I guess Michigan really is the Champions of the West.. led by Moody.

Go Blue!

You don't need to stretch to convey his value. We flat-out lose the Illinois game without him. He is so automatic, he actually applies game theory pressure on the opponent. Illinois did NOT want Michigan getting within FG range because that was the "game over" scenario for them. It's bleak when your chances depend on getting Moody to miss.

I've seen Michigan kickers since the awesomely named Ali Haji-Sheikh.   Jake Moody is easily the best kicker I've seen.  His consistency, his mind set, his ability is second to none.  He'll have an amazing NFL career.

Someone has to say:  "Champion of the West!"

Also, Jay Feeley wasn't up to the level of many others of M lore but probably the most successful pro kicker, not to mention someone still in the limelight as commentator on NFL games when kicks happen.
