So which came first? The Isaiah Todd tea leaves affecting Christopher? Or Josh Christopher not coming affected Todd? I suspect once Josh Christopher realized Todd was out, it made the decision easier to go to ASU. Or maybe neither had anything with each other

I think Christopher was out first. Didn't Todd publicly come out last week and say he was coming? Or at the very least, didn't his coach say he was coming? If you want my guess, Christopher got cold feet somewhere along the way, or he just decided that due to everything going on, he wanted to be closer to home, in which case I wouldn't fault him for that. When that happened, it started the domino effect with Todd, who clearly at this point only wanted to be here if Christopher was going to be here. That old saying really is true where some top recruits only want to play with other top recruits.

That's my guess as to what happened, but if it went another way where Todd said he was coming but knew he wanted to play elsewhere or was still 50/50 about it, then that says a lot about him and probably shows that he isn't the kind of person you want in your program anyway. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it is a possibility.

I got downvoted for saying there was probably a reason Calipari backed off both of JC and IT...looks like there was a reason.

Love how we got played all the way into April, which cost us 2 transfers and dipped majorly into the 21 class.

This is gonna start becoming the norm. The only thing keeping kids from doing this more often is that not many guys who went overseas to play have actually ended up that good in the league(Jennings had a few decent years). But if Lamelo makes the jump and produces along with the increased foreign talent in the league, I could see 5 or 6 five stars a year doing this.

I miss old college basketball. When you would build teams and have a culture. Not just rentals. Remember senior Grant Hill and Kenyon Martin?!! Glenn Robinson avg 30ppg? We will never see that level of play in the current state.

The moral of the story: recruit very good players who could turn into great ones, and not great players who can pursue other options.  Puts the team in a bad position roster wise when this happens.

Like I said with Christopher... Michigan never fares well with kids who act like this in their recruitment.

How is it that someone that has never actually committed, i.e. signed his name on the dotted line, is de-committing?

This is why I pay no attention to recruits until they have signed on.  A verbal recruit means absolutely nothing.

As to Mr. Todd, it's your choice to do what you think is best for you.  Enjoy life overseas.  If you aren't truly interested in the college BB experience, then don't do it.  However, I do suggest you do the math - there are 30 NBA teams X 2 = 60 draft spots.  Will you be top 60 in your draft year?  And how do you know that as an 18 year old coming out of high school?  Oh, your agent told you - that's good enough for me.

We lost 2 5* in like 12 hours. You can say we didn’t have JC, but everything showed us that we were in great shape (betting favorites) on JC and IT staying.

Where now? Lets try and find any silver lining...We have 2 open spots. Hopefully JH doesn’t do any knee jerk reaction and pauses on the situation. Big vote coming 5/20 for the immediate eligibility for NCAA athletes one time. That decision if passes (they say it will) is a game changer.. I gotta think that would open up another guy or two to explore. I trust JH could get a guy to see the opportunity at the guard spot to come in and play big role. Missing Todd sucks, but we got 3’s and 4’s. We need another guard though.

Pg - Smith/Brooks

Sg - “x” player / Brooks

SF - Franz/Williams or Bajema

PF - Livers/Johns

C - Dickinson/Davis

Thinking Zeb is a year or so away. More a future asset. Need that Sg though. One who with Livers/Franz are the best players on this team 20-21.

Lets see how this plays out come Labor Day and school in session (virus unrelated, that is convo for different thread). We all said Todd was raw, who knows the impact he would’ve had with the depth we could have at the 3-4 spots.

A team that finished 9th in the Big Ten, loses is Senior PG and Senior C (two positions where experience matters most) and is depending on a grad transfer PG (from a low major).  Sounds like a recipe to miss the tournament for sure.

This team is going to STRUGGLE to defend next year.

I understand that guys want to get paid, but it would be interesting to see how many of the players who skip college basketball to play overseas develop compared to those who play college for two years before going pro.

Actually the opposite of unreal. This is textbook Michigan. Boatloads of hype that end in massive disappointment when its finally time for the rubber to meet the road. Its just one kick in the dick after the other, while we get to just stand there and watch OSU feast on the pleasures of life.

Hard not to feel like Michigan's role in the universe is anything more than the bumbling comic relief that comes in to humor the sporting gods while the main event gets prepped backstage to put on the real show.

Just ridiculous.  Now I know why I hate following basketball recruiting.

Michigan just went from having likely two 5 star recruits and an overloaded roster to zero 5 star recruits and a roster with holes in just a few days.

Now Livers just needs to stay in the draft to top it all off.

Shit like this is why Harbaugh went from jumping in pools and climbing trees on recruiting trips in his first year to a more laidback approach

These high ranked kids are dicks. I know its their life their decision but their decision to drag things out and jump ship screws the entire program and isnt cool

Howard got played by two 5 star buddies in cahoots
