Isaiah Todd decommits-going overseas
April 14th, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
DDJ was considering bailing in the past. He wants to be an alpha dog somewhere and wasn't getting that at UM.
But also maybe Howard was too upfront with his current guys and counted his chickens before they were hatched. Maybe in the future with the flaky 5* guys he can better plan so if they bail they aren't left with roster deficiencies.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
Can they come back now? Can they do that? Are they allowed to? I wonder if they actually wanted to transfer or if they thought those guys were coming and decided to skip town. I really like those guys and was bummed they decided to leave, even if Todd and Christopher did come.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:24 PM ^
Dude - do you even understand how the transfer process works!? Apparently not since you're logging multiple posts indicating that M shouldn’t have “let” them go.
Since Michigan needed both transfers to happen for Christopher and Todd, how hard do you think Howard fought for them to stay after they told him they wanted to transfer?
April 14th, 2020 at 11:59 AM ^
Europe is beautiful and has so much history.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
Taiwan is actually playing basketball right now.
If my kid was a 5*, I'd tell him to what Todd is doing. Well, I wouldn't leave Juwan Howard and Michigan fans standing at the altar, but there's too much money overseas to waste your time pretending to go to class.
If the Taiwan Beer is an actual basketball team, they are my new favorite team.
Well, you could actually go to class, and maybe learn something. Juwan did.
April 14th, 2020 at 11:59 AM ^
Juwan is going to have to work a miracle this upcoming season. SMFH
April 14th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
Looking at 247, there are still 3 incoming top 100 guys, plus the Columbia PG transfer. That's really not a bad first recruiting class. Obviously the past several hours have not been kind to you guys but it's not like this class is a failure.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
Guard play is going to be a limiting factor on next season's team.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:00 PM ^
Recruiting 5 stars is a tricky business and hopefully this experience taught Juwan a lot. Maybe next year we'll be able to actually sign one or two. Either way, not a bad first class for Juwan even if it was a little bit of a letdown
April 14th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
Losing two 5-stars in just over half a day is more than “little bit of a letdown.”
April 14th, 2020 at 12:05 PM ^
They never had the one.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Todd was always suspect if he would actually come and JC was never committed to us. I guess I am use to Michigan getting boned in these situations so my expectations were low
April 14th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
And since we had a shot at both, our fanbase optimism skyrocketed like it does with football...only to be disappointed. Oh well, still a decent class and hopefully we can get some in the future
April 14th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
My gosh, suddenly we are going from National Title contender to the NIT just within the last couple of weeks.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
*hours
You're probably right. I guess I was referencing Livers announcing he's going pro (I know that's not 100% yet but...)
April 14th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
Is it though? I am surprised this didn't happen sooner. He was never coming.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
Why didn't you tell Juwan?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
I did. The dude never listens to me. I even knocked on his door. I was given a free ride away from there. Still no reply.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
*Nevermind :(
April 14th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Well that pretty much ruins the whole amazing feeling I had of Juwan. Damn.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:05 PM ^
Well at least we can say that we know Juwan is not paying the players..
April 14th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
I feel really bad for Juwan. I thought this was pretty disrespectful to treat Juwan this way. He's a good dude and doesn't deserve to get jerked around (not so much Todd, but Christopher was playing games).
April 14th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
17 year olds are normally stupid. 17 year olds that think they're the next Kobe and have everyone telling them they're the greatest thing since sliced bread certainly have every opportunity to be worse than your average stupid 17 year old.
Assuming Christopher led Juwan on too, I have a hard time wishing him luck at ASU. Being a dick to Juwan so you can hype your commitment and gain more attention for yourself is low even by crootin standards
April 14th, 2020 at 12:32 PM ^
To be fair, you gotta get as much attention as you can now since nobody is going to watch your games the entire year
Yeah Christopher gave some shout out to Michigan on twitter last night that seemed very unaware, like he thought we would be cool (or even honored) for having been played in his stupid little game. I was like what the f*** man? It wasn't like a sincere thanks to the other coaches and programs that recruited him the way some other players would have. It was all a twitter game to him.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:07 PM ^
I'll be stunned if he plays overseas. I can't imagine wanting to do that with the COVID situation and concerns of a second round hitting the world this fall. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes the G-League route though.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:24 PM ^
Considering virtually every country in the world has handled the virus better than the US, overseas is probably safer.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:32 PM ^
The deaths per capita metrics would disagree.
Uh, no.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:07 PM ^
Wow. Fucking brutal two days.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Well I saw online first thing this morning about Christoper and thought well fuck might as well start drinking.....damn the wife is going to be pissed at me in a couple more hours when I ask her to run to get me some more beer. This is a double thumbs down kinda day!!
Go Blue!!
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Basketball recruiting has become the black pit of hell to fans and coaches. Every year it gets fucking worse and worse with these absurd, social-media dominated soap opera recruitments. And the turnover in rosters is getting ridiculous too. Coaches like Howard are faced with completely rebuilding the team every damned year and spending an eternity on the road trying to kiss these prima donna 5* players' asses. Yeah, I'm pretty upset about and it's probably time for me to step away from this crap for a while.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
I started reading your post and thought, "this guy's too emotional." By the end of your post I thought, "holy shit, he's absolutely right."
April 14th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
Dude, you forgot to add the transfer portal to this dilemma.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
Seems like a "2 years or 0 years" system or a 3 or 0 system would do better. Like if you're gonna go play in college, you have to spend a few years there before declaring. Don't want to do that? Fine, go to the G league or Europe or something. It's gotta be exhausting building a roster like this. I get why Beilein got fed up with it
I agree. I teach a bunch of "big time" Ivy League basketball and football players. Every single one of them hopes to get a shot in the pros but will stay in school for four years and graduate with a useful and valuable degree.
While none of them would sniff meaningful playing time at Michigan, I'm more inclined to support this version of college sports than I am what's happen in the P5 schools.
What’s stopping you from just supporting those Ivy League teams then?
You don’t have to answer no one is buying your high horse BS.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Who cares now if the next college BB season is suspended. We lost a lot great recruits and now Livers will probably leave next. If there is a college BB we now look to be an NIT team.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
So if/when Livers goes pro the team may only be marginally better than this season.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
Better? They would certainly be worse I would think. Losing both and Teske? How would they be better?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:27 PM ^
If Livers leaves and Wagner stays, this is the lineup change:
1: ̶S̶i̶m̶p̶s̶o̶n̶, ̶D̶D̶J̶, SMITH, JACKSON
2: Brooks, ̶D̶D̶J̶, Bajema
3: Wagner, Nuñez
4: ̶L̶i̶v̶e̶r̶s̶, Johns, WILLIAMS, HOWARD
5: ̶T̶e̶s̶k̶e̶, Davis, DICKINSON, ̶C̶a̶s̶t̶l̶e̶t̶o̶n̶
How did the team get better?
April 14th, 2020 at 12:46 PM ^
The fact that Nunez is still on this roster baffles me.
This attitude is exactly why I don’t mind the kids doing what they’re doing. Most of the posters here are upset about the past 24 hours and all of them would shrug their shoulders if Nunez had somehow been forced out to make room.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
I'm starting to think there's no point in pursuing top 20 basketball recruits. They'll tear your roster apart playing games with you and even if you do get them, they'll likely only stay for one year.
April 14th, 2020 at 12:15 PM ^
Or just do like UK, Duke and others do and make sure they sign in November. Howard will have to learn from this debacle, hes new at this. Unless you are a tactician like Beilein was, recruiting is the lifeblood of basketball
April 14th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
Fair, if they don't sign in November, don't hold a roster spot for them.
If they want to wait until April 13th to make a decision, they can risk losing their offer if their roster spot disappears.
