Isaiah Hole From Wolverine Wire Dropping Some Pre-Game Intel
Don't kill the messenger but Isaiah Hole from The Wolverine Wire just dropped this intel from one of his sources before the game:
Spoke to one person close to the Michigan side of things, who couldn’t speak publicly and requested anonymity, about a litany of subjects heading into the VRBO Citrus Bowl.
Here’s what I’ve got:
- Jess Speight is starting at defensive tackle against Alabama.
- Carlo Kemp is still very banged up, but will play. Though it might just be a handful of snaps.
- Michigan is incredibly confident on offense. Expect a big game on that front, provided it executes.
- Donovan Peoples-Jones is about 50/50 on returning.
- Cesar Ruiz is leaning towards leaving.
- Barring a significant promotion in Ann Arbor, expect Chris Partridge to sign with Ole Miss as defensive coordinator as soon as tomorrow.
- There’s a rumor that this could be Nick Saban’s last game with Alabama, as he could be making a jump to the NFL to take over in a front office role with an NFC team. That’s not obviously from a Bama source, so grain of salt on that front, but we’ll see if Alabama comes out on fire if that’s been indicated.
That is....a lot. And a lot, in my opinion, of bad news for the boys in Maize and Blue. What say you?

That’s a ton of info. Most of it bad.

Getting the bleach out early this morning.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:00 PM ^
Jess Speight? Jesus
January 1st, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
We’ll always have the 2000 Orange Bowl.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
Do you have any more great news?
January 1st, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Jess Speight? Where's my sunshine blowers to tell me everything is golden.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
It’s frustrating and I hope UM pulls off the upset but in year five under Harbaugh, how many people thought this many walk-ons would get this much playing time?
January 1st, 2020 at 1:03 PM ^
Two guys.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Yup. Most of It bad.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Please let the jail sexing be somewhat gentle. Worst news there is partridge. Can't lose ace recruiters. Why can't one of the bad recruiters go?
January 1st, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
You mean everyone but Jay, Sherrone and CP?
January 1st, 2020 at 12:41 PM ^
Gattis is excellent too. Harbaugh is too. I suspect Harbaugh will grab another ace recruiter.
People on here somehow think JH won’t address his departure or that UM isn’t a very attractive place to coach.
I don’t know what Kiffin is thinking in hiring an inexperienced guy to be his DC when he faces Alabama, LSU, and Auburn every year.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:53 PM ^
Kiffin has publicly stated he intends to troll Saban at every turn. Saban wanted Partridge but couldn't get him. Thus the offer to Partridge. It's not any more complicated than that
January 1st, 2020 at 2:39 PM ^
So he's cutting off his nose to spite his face.
January 1st, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
And even more hilarious if hes trolling Saban and Saban is quitting.
January 1st, 2020 at 1:01 PM ^
He's thinking that he'd like an ace recruiter on his staff. Which is why Michigan and us fans would like to keep him, though the post about trolling Saban is intriguing. But he has obviously been in demand for a couple years now. Guess it's time to find out if he can coach as well as he recruits.
January 1st, 2020 at 1:16 PM ^
That's one way to frame the question. Another one would be why would an experienced DC making DC $ already make a lateral move to a 3rd tier SEC team that competes in the same division as Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and TAMU? No proven quality coach is taking that job. So his coaches are a re-tread not in demand, a group of 5 DC, or a Power5 assistant. Partridge is a reasonable choice given the appeal of the job.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:05 PM ^
Has Ruiz shown enough to go pro?
January 1st, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
Seems like not. It took him forever to get back up to speed this year.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
Nope. He’ll be a late pick or go undrafted.
January 1st, 2020 at 1:27 PM ^
This is... inaccurate.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
New Year, New Decade.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
same shit
January 1st, 2020 at 12:31 PM ^
Oh, yeah!
January 1st, 2020 at 12:07 PM ^
I mean if they've been practicing against a depleted dline for multiple practices the confidence is probably artificial.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:08 PM ^
I've heard similar rumblings about Saban departing for the NFL.
This could be very interesting.
The Michigan related news is less interesting, because let's face it, we rarely get good news when it comes to football.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
Cleveland, huh?
January 1st, 2020 at 12:22 PM ^
Im thinking Washington. Cleveland cannot have any kind of uncertainty with this hiring . Washington has rivera in place as a solid, steady hand. Would be better situation for all involved, imo.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:45 PM ^
I doubt Saban leaves, especially to work under Dan Snyder. I don't see him taking a pay cut and losing that sweet lake house in Alabama for DC or any other NFL gig.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
I don’t know if his ego would let him leave after what had been a disappointing season.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
Washington hired Rivera.
January 1st, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
Not as front office. As head coach. Post says Saban looking at front office position.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
Did Speight even play all year? I thought he played even less than Hinton. Our weakest position just got 10x weaker. We’re screwed.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:20 PM ^
Seriously. You're starting Jess Speight against Bama, not your 5* defensive tackles Hinton and Smith? Only at Michigan.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
And this is how you fall behind in recruiting against the big boys. They can sell playing time to freshman and show evidence of it.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:35 PM ^
Well we have to start 2 DTs. One is Hinton and Speight in for Kemp
January 1st, 2020 at 12:38 PM ^
So Speight jumps your highly recruited DT Mazi Smith? Again this is how you fall behind in recruiting.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:51 PM ^
Again, you don’t know what you are talking about.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:53 PM ^
If Speight is better than Smith, then yes. Doesn’t matter how highly recruited/ranked you are. Best players play. Recruiting rankings mean nothing once you’re on a college team.
January 1st, 2020 at 1:31 PM ^
If he was better than Smith, why was he not offered a scholarship but the other one was? Best players play huh? Yea ok keep believing that is how this works in every situation. There a players playing not because they are better (have more talent) but because they are more seniority and younger players have to wait their turn.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
Oh my god! He hasn’t played all year for a reason! He’s not ready. They played Giles Jackson, Sanristil, and Dax Hill. As well as Hinton. They obviously play freshmen that are ready to play. But by all means yes there must be this conspiracy against Mazi Smith.
January 1st, 2020 at 1:51 PM ^
Hinton only started getting rotational snaps when guys got injured. Prior to, it was mop of duty snaps. And no I am not saying there is a conspiracy against anyone. I am pointing out our recruiting and how we stack up against the top teams we attempt to recruit with.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
Only way we win, is in a shootout. Need to score in bunches.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
Could be a long day without Kemp and we might be Dwumfour.
Can we get the kid from Stanford to play. Shit.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
Well isn’t that a blow to the dick
January 1st, 2020 at 12:15 PM ^
You make it sound like a bad thing.
January 1st, 2020 at 12:30 PM ^
Umm, It may be just me, but I’d much prefer a blow to the dick.
January 1st, 2020 at 2:18 PM ^
Agreed. I'd like my dick blown too.
