Isaac Haas out for season with fractured elbow
Ugh. Feel terrible for Haas and his teammates. Brutal loss. Without Haas, that's a far less imposing team. I thought Purdue had a great chance to get to the Nat'l Championship game this year.
I really liked the Purdue team this year. They played fun bball and Haas was a fun player to watch inside with all the outside shooting. I was hoping to see them dominate some opponents with similar play they had against Michigan. Still hoping they make a run (and my bracket does too).
Is it too late to change my bracket?
UVA: Shit, we lost our ACC 6th man of the year with a broken wrist. I hope we can still contend in this tournament.
Purdue: Hold my beer.
That does suck. Haas is a monster and Purdue might not win another game without him.

I suppose since I picked Arizona and Purdue to win their brackets I'm free to root for chaos now.
Same picks. But you should always be rooting for chaos + Michigan from day 1. Screw the brackets.
Horrible news for the Boilers. I thought he was indestructible, but he hit the floor hard.
...you know how it goes.
Huge loss and a major bummer. I was rooting for them for sure.
TWSS?
This absolutely blows. He's a great player and part of why Purdue is legitimately fun to watch.
If he tried to keep playing and got re-injured, it could really screw things up and cost him his career. Better to get it fixed now.
When Haas/Purdue isn't playing against us, I was rooting for them to do well. Plus I hate seeing anybody get hurt. Hope he recovers fully and enjoys his next step career-wise.
Damn huge losses for UVA and Purdue.
I have Purdue winning the title in a massive pool where only six people took them. I was feeling really good about that until about a half hour ago.

That's where height works against you.
Haarms is a good backup. Time for him to step up. I think Purdue will still be a tough out if Haarms can stay out of foul trouble.
i've got a personal saying: physics always wins. it may not be the physics you were expecting but physics always wins.
I hope Purdue's backup is able to stay healthy. He's no Haas, but still a pretty decent player. If I were Painter, to make sure and ensure his health, I would sure as heck make sure that everyone stayed out of...wait for it...Haarms way
The problem is, how many minutes can he play? I think they're going to need to explore some small ball line ups.
and Haarms. At 6'7", Vince Edwards is the only other starter over 6'4". He's bigger than the other guys that see regular minutes off the bench too.

That's my point. How many minutes can Haarms play? He sure as hell can't play 40.

They have a couple of bigs that hardly play. Playing super small for a few possessions might work, but I wouldn't want to do it for long. It's not just the frontcourt. That have one of the smallest backcourts I've seen on a good team. It won't be a small lineup where they switch everyone on screens.
write Pudue off. Harms is pretty good- it will be tougher for him to have to carry a starter's load but he does many of things Haas does.
I'm not counting them out. I liked what I saw with Harms in there. Bummer for Hass though, seemed like a pretty good kid.
that is really unfortunate. purdue was poised for a deep run. wonder if the uncertainty in their offense will actually help them now?
As a pseudo-Purdue-fan, this sucks. Really enjoyed watching Haas play. My UVA vs. Purdue championship game in my bracket is looking pretty farfetched now.
It's not 100% devastating, but he gets so many free throws and makes them and is a pretty good passer to set up all those threes they make. When he's passing and they're making those threes, they are literally not beatable.
Hard to beat Nova in particular without him.
That was our strategy against them last game. Guard the 3 point line and let Haas go one on one in the post even if it meant giving him some easy baskets. He wasn't trying to take over the game, but that's what the defense left them. It is a dangerous defensive strategy because he's so good in the post, but I'm sure we weren't the only team to employ it.
Not every team has a viable option to go small. Haarms should be fine, but he can't pull defenders outside to open up the lane. I don't know who would be next up. It's a really small lineup with Cline or Eastern in his place.
too bad -- they had a genuine chance to make a run to the Final Four.
epecially during NCAA play. can't say i ever recall anything like it. how did it happen?
and thankfully nobody has said, 'purdue haas a sad'.
Tangled up with another player wrestling for a rebound. He fell hard to the floor, elbow obviously taking some hard contact.
+1 for you. Good one, XM!
And all the best to Isaac. I hope he goes on to great things. If he's lucky, he'll end up with the Trailblazers.
What a shame. I respect Painter's program and would like to see them do well in the tourney. That's just brutal.
