Henson: Harbaugh engineered Fisch and Wheatley departures
Henson often has good stuff and seems to be pretty well connected. He claims to have 2 sources on this story. In summary, Harbaugh had no problem with the departures and probably pushed them at least a bit.

I'm a member and I can say that nothing has been posted to my knowledge of either getting pushed out. There was a note that there was a belief that Wheatly would leave but nothing about him being pushed out. This guy is just fabricating things based on perceptions he is drawing himself.

FWIW, Sam mentioned this morning that Wheatley did have an extension offer on the table to stay on the staff.
January 18th, 2017 at 6:02 PM ^
I was the one who asked Sam the question this morning about whether Wheatley had gotten an offer to stay. Seems like a pretty important detail to me.
Now I suppose a new offer could be structured so as to be an insult that Wheatley would be sure to reject, but that strikes me as Machiavellian in a way that Harbaugh isn't. He's far too direct and simple.
Sam has been saying for two years that we need to get used to staff departures, because the guys Harbaugh is hiring are ambitious. In Wheatley's case, he wants to be a head coach, and Webb's view is that Wheatley made the decision that moving to the Jags would get him closer to that than staying on as RB coach at Michigan. As far as Fisch goes, it was an article of faith around here going back to 2015 that Jedd would be one of the first assistants to leave, and that his gig here was strictly a short-term thing. Blowing his departure up into something that Harbaugh engineered sounds like a typical hot take from an internet gasbag.
It would hardly be unusual for there to be disagreements between head coaches and their assistants—Woody and Bo threw chairs at each other during one meeting, for chrissakes—so I would never say that it's impossible there were differences of opinion between Wheatley, Drevno, and Harbaugh. I'm never going to take Henson's word as gospel, though.

I wouldn't believe a thing this guy says. He's notoriously inaccurate outside of the Harbaugh hiring for which he was just reading tea leaves. To double down on a good point someone made, If Harbaugh was pushing Wheatly out why would he continue to have him recruiting days before he leaves. Also Fisch has openly wished U of M and Harbaugh luck, something I doubt he does if he indeed got "pushed" out

On Fisch, there is something called "class and professionalism" when things don't go your way. I would expect someone with both of those qualities to say the same things that Fisch did upon taking a job opportunity in another spot. What good would come out of him saying, "Harbaugh is an ass and I hope UM never wins another game EVER!"? So I completely disagree with your point on that.
On Henson, what proof do you have that he has been "notoriously" inaccurate? I'm not a Henson slappy, but I always think it's important to provide documentation when you question someone's reliability or ability to do their job. I can't prove he has been accurate outside of Harbaugh, but I'm also not the one besmirching his name.
On Wheatley, I mean, he still has a job to do while Michigan is paying him to do it. Harbaugh wanted every player he visited, so Wheatley was going to do what he was being payed to do and be "classy and professional" about it. Harbaugh isn't an idiot, unless he was going to do the visit himself, you send Wheatley and you expect him not to tell a recruit "btw, I'm leaving, Harbaugh is stupid, don't go to Michigan". Why is that so hard to believe?

Reports like these should be treated the same way as the stupid reports on where a recruit might go. They are to generate clicks only and probably aren't based on anything other than an opinion.

he doesn't? Could be finalizing things as we speak. Was probably talking with Pep right after, if not before the NFL season ended. I don't think anybody knows that for sure.

I don't know anything he has ever gotten right about recruiting. There were a bunch but he started the rumor that Josh Rosen was going to decommit from UCLA and come to Michigan.
January 18th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
I got another interesting text from a good source that Josh Rosen “is in” if Jim is indeed named the next Head Coach at Michigan. Rosen is a California kid who is committed to UCLA, but sources say he will more than likely be a Wolverine once the search is resolved next week. That is a bit of a surprise to me as Michigan already has a nice prospect in the class, Alex Malzone from Birmingham Brother Rice. I’ll admit, I know next to nothing about recruits, I’m just passing it along from a solid source.
Clearly, he must have trusted his source to come out with this information. However, he even admits to knowing "next to nothing" about recruiting. I'm honestly trying hard not to defend him, because I believe most reporters are about the clicks/shares/likes these days. But, I don't see anything where he personally guarantees Rosen would be here. This prediction to me is about the same as all the "Najee is flipping" stories. IMO.

He's the head coach, which makes him the boss. This is okay for him to do. These were two good coaches, but I'm not second guessing it based on his track record.

To anything that thinks Henson has good sources, remember his insider scoop that a supposed mystery commitment was going to fall our way was reported to be Greg Little. Looking back it appears he just made this claim based off the fact that him and Rashan and struck up a friendship at one of the camps.

Hey guys FYI, this pic was taken while henson was writing this hot take.
January 18th, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
Henson swings at a lot of pitches. Sometimes he hits a HR, someone he strikes out. Issue is knowing which one is which in the moment because he is one of the ultimate "sources" guys. So I read it, but I also know that I'm probably not going to know until someone I view as more reliable weighs in.
Also, hard to take this too article seriously when it says this:
(You can follow Fregg Henson on Twitter @GreggHenson)
Unless they're shortening Faux Gregg Henson to Fregg Henson, in which case, well done, website I've never read before.

I made an innocuous comment in a reply to one of his Tweets. Didn't think anything of it until a couple of hours later somebody quoted one of his Tweets and I couldn't see it. Yep, blocked.
First and only time.
That said, I don't completely doubt what he wrote here. I don't completely trust it, either.

there isn't bad blood between them now. I love Wheatley.
January 18th, 2017 at 1:44 PM ^
I'm not saying it's impossible but untill I hear from a better souce I'm not buying it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Harbaugh encouraged them to spread their wings and leave the nest if the spirit moved them and somehow that got twisted into "Harbaugh wanted those guys out".
January 18th, 2017 at 1:44 PM ^
Wheatley was a great recruiter and nice to have a legacy guy in the program, but time after time people insisted that Deveon Smith got the playing time he did because he was the only one who could pick up blitzes and block well. Wouldn't that be a coaching issue?
