Anyway, last night Jim Harbaugh called one of his former teammates. The conversation did not start well as my source states the San Fran head coach said, “Would you hate me if I didn’t come?”

1) Ted Spencer was U of M’s Athletic/Admissions dude for many years. Spencer left this year and has not been replaced. Harbaugh wants to replace Spencer with someone philosophically in line with Ted.

Harbaugh has concerns that Michigan President Mark Schlissel wants U of M to become more like Brown University. Schlissel’s response is that’s not how he wants to operate.

2) I can confirm that Harbaugh’s agent is the one who leaked the contract details to the national NFL media. Which is weird since the U of M athletic department kind of leaked the same information two weeks ago. Very strange.

3) Further complicating matters is it now appears the Atlanta Falcons are extremely interested in Jim’s services and might be ready to part ways with Mike Smith. And they have Home Depot money.

4) The only piece of good news my source can provide is Jack Harbaugh is still extremely desirous of his son’s return to his alma mater.

Wait.  What?  Did you even read the post below this one?  What the bloody hell.  This whole thing.  It just sucks and is weird.  I'm ready for closure one way or the other.

I think it's a reasonable comment for Harbaugh to make if he's thinking things over. He knows the whole Michigan world is foaming at the mouth for him to say yes. He's asking himself how could he say no to this opportunity, and this comment is an expression of such a feeling.

Lowes is nicer and Menards has better deals on lumber.

But seriously, I hope that the right folks are saying the right things to him in the coming weeks.  Hopefully Dad knows best...

Moss was pretty dead on with the reported $$$ Michigan was going to spend two weeks ago.  Plus this stuff is so detailed, it doesn't sound like some random crap thrown against a wall.  All I can say is that we need to root for Atlanta to make it to the playoffs.

EDIT: You also copied the complete article without providing a link.  Feelings about Moss aside, you could have given a brief synopsis and provided the link.  I didn't realize this happened until I went to his site to read the full article and it was a word for word copy/paste job.

While Mike Smith is a goner I seriously doubt Thomas Dimitroff is going anywhere and he's not a guy who would bow to Harbaugh. If jim wants power it won't be in Atlanta.

Part one sounds like BS. I really doubt Harbaugh would be requesting who gets hired in admissions. He was able to win at Stanford with stricter standards and I'm sure he would pride himself on doing the same thing at Michigan.

Schlissel didn't come to the university of michigan to turn it into Brown or even Northwestern.  He's too smart to not have understood the power of athletics and he's handled this situation far too well to be that clueless.  The guys who are injecting the JUCO issue are NFL guys who aren't familiar with Harbaughs prior comments about academics.  If he doesn't come it won't be because Schlissel said he would tie his hands with recruits or becuase he wants the Atlanta job.  That's crazy talk.

Though many of these sources probably are credible, JH is very unpredicable and often changes his mind. Until he formally announces his decision YOU CANNOT COUNT ON ANYTHING RELIABLE SOURCES HAVE SAY! It may have been true at that point in time but given his propensity to change his mind nothing is solid until he says so.

I think the sad reality is he hasn't made up his mind yet and based on where his head is when talking to a "source" is the droplets of information we get...

I've always gotten the impression (2011 too) that Harbaugh doesn't really want to coach Michigan. Just seems like if he wanted to come back to Ann Arbor and coach Michigan, that it wouldn't be such a tough decision. Maybe he does come and coach for a few years, but I'd bet he'll be back to the NFL in a few years. He seems to have his mind on the League

Harbaugh would hate Atlanta.  Owner is a micromanager and GM is a douche who has no clue.  Atlanta has made some of the worst free agent moves in years and had some terrible drafts.  I can't see Jim there without Dimitroff getting the axe.

Again, I have no idea if Harbaugh will end up being the coach, but I will side with Bacon on this one that if he doesn't come it won't be because some NFL team through more money at him.  It will be because his competative nature is driving him to succeed in the NFL, which means more to him than Michigan.
