That's one more reason to pull for Vrabel.  He's one of the few OSU alums I actually like.  He made a crucial QB pressure vs St Louis to force an interception by Ty Law.  This led to a 20-17 victory for the Pats and TB12's first super bowl win.

I really do wonder how many of these teams are serious about Harbaugh - it seems like his name pops up, he talks to a couple of them, and then they move on to guys who have been in the league or are up-and-coming.  I do think he's trending toward sticking around but it feels more like a marriage of convenience and not because he won't keep trying to get back to the NFL.

That may well be the case, but if so, I choose to interpret it no differently than a player coming back to the school because he didn't receive as high a draft grade as he wanted.

To date, every time Harbaugh's NFL flirtations have ended, he's flipped the switch and coached his tail off for us.  I don't think the man is capable of pulling a DJ Durkin and mailing it in.

NFL guy: "So Jim, tell us about this past season."

Jim: "It went great!  But the guy you really should talk to about it is Blake Corum.  I have him in my contacts.  Let me call him real quick."

Calls Corum.

Blake: "Hey Coach, what's up?"

Jim: "Hey Blake!  These NFL guys are interviewing me.  Got anything you want to say about the season?"

Blake [nervous laughter] : "Well you know, we all came back with unfinished business on our minds, and we were determined to block out all the distractions, and it was just a beautiful thing as we overcame all the adversity."

NFL guy: "..."

Not sure, but I am sure if Harbaugh was asking for a normal contract then it'd already be on the table. The extras he wants in the contract are similar to the extras he will be asking for from NFL teams. I dont mind the immunity clause, but I can also understand how a university would have to be very careful about it. Same way a Chargers fan wouldnt mind giving Harbaugh complete control of the franchise, but the owner and potential GM might not be fully willing without long deliberation.

It's amazing to me the people NFL teams will hire in front of Harbaugh. Guy just wins everywhere he goes. Most of these clowns don't. Vrabel is yet another clown, no matter what anyone else says.

Definitely seems like the Chargers are keeping their options open. Obviously don't know anything about what's going on behind the scenes, but I wonder if the control Harbaugh is going to demand is too much for most, if not every NFL owner to want to give up.

That said, if Vrabel heads to LA I'd be more than fine with that, because on the off-chance Day is fired next year (and make no mistake, he WILL GET FIRED if he loses to Michigan a fourth year in a row), I'd rather not OSU not have an alum home run hire waiting in the wings to take over. A guy who would almost certainly make OSU's defense elite year in and year out.
