So few of your type left. Most OSU fans I know grew up in the Tressel/Meyer era, and as such have no fear of Michigan whatsoever (can’t say I blame them), have little respect for them as a football program (again, can’t blame them), and look at the game as a playoff tuneup.

The one fear any OSU fan should have, regardless of the era of the rivalry that they grew up in, is that the longer the streak of dominance goes, the worse of a feeling it’s going to be when a really good OSU team finally goes down in this game. It’s not a fear of Michigan per se. It’s just the fear of how much that loss will sting and linger after enjoying so many years of winning and pure euphoria in this rivalry. And the longer the dominance goes, the worse of a reaction the OSU fanbase will likely have when that loss does finally happen.

Do I think it’s going to happen next year, or anytime soon? Survey says......unlikely. But it’ll happen eventually just because nothing lasts forever. The question of whether or not Columbus burns to the ground by Sunday morning could be a legitimate ask.

Without trying to come off as arrogant… most of us OSU fans expect to win every game… by a wide margin. Read the game threads on 11W… most fans aren’t happy that OSU won, simply because they didn’t win by “enough”. Every loss is a massive kick to the balls, no matter who it comes by. It’s a tortured fandom, if that makes sense.

As for the UM/OSU game… my head tells me UM is still a few years away, but my heart tells me to watch the fuck out… it’s a rivalry game, anything can happen. Hence the anxiety and fear of Game week.

Agreed Officer. It's beyond time for Michigan do it's part to make the rivalry competitive again, whatever that takes.

There is no question OSU simply has more roster talent than Michigan. But I am so tired of hearing OSU's players talk about their year round preparation for The Game after another consecutive victory, while Michigan talks about how they were out executed on Saturday. While that may certainly be true, it's also abundantly clear they were out executed in the 360+ days leading up to The Game as well. That piece of the equation is just purely unacceptable.

100% agree. The opponent may be able to match or exceed your talent, but you can control whether they match your preparation and intensity. If banning red gatorade from the football facilities reinforces the program's disdain for the Buckeyes, then ban away.

Well said BB

Wear that hate. It’s still lowercase ohio for me even though Hoke failed.. ohio was and is still a 4 letter word in our vernacular

Another step in the right direction.  I'll be looking to see if it changes anything in the game.

Our odds have improved! Harbaugh is finally understanding the rivalry. If he'd just shift all his recruiting resources immediately south and start "recruiting Ohio" (and fighting MSU, Cinci, and Kentucky for the guys not good enough to get recruited by OSU) the odds will get even better.

OP, I do appreciate this: "Sorry for the mgoposters who get irrationally mad at things like this but also get mad when they don't happen."

This little gimmick from Harbaugh will probably get a few people off his back, which is pathetic and hilarious.

After the 1969 loss to "that school up north," Woody Hayes had a rug made with the score (24-12) placed at the entrance of the locker room which the players stepped on every day as a reminder. I suppose you could say it worked, because OSU got their revenge the next season in Columbus. However, I believe such motivators have a reasonable chance of working when the two team are near equals. Sadly, such is not case presently.

It is good to see the program is trying to engage in some small mental exercises around preparing for our arch rival. I do think it's similar to something OSU has been doing for years, dating back to Meyer (no blue colored clothing in their football facilities or something), so it's kind of a tired anecdote.

It also makes you wonder what UM has been doing for 300+ days a year for the past 6 years to prepare for The Game, while OSU is preparing little by little every single day, year round to beat Michigan's ass the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This isn't conjecture, their players and coaches talk about it openly and often.

I would have to imagine Harbaugh and staff have always prepared in someways, but it's just a little disconcerting we're just now hearing about an enhanced effort to narrow the focus on OSU year round, when it seems like something that should have been there all along.

I firmly believe a major component of OSU's accent to the very elite of college football is the fact that they have designed the entire program to revolve around beating Michigan, dating back to the hire of Tressel. The rationale back in 2000 was solid. If we beat Michigan, the rest of the season will fall into place. It seems like that has stayed with them ever since they started realizing success with it and haven't looked back.

In order to have a punchers chance at pulling off an upset at least in the next 5 years, UM has to obsess over beating them the way they obsess around beating us. Hopefully this is just some novelty thing they do for the press, but behind the scenes they are assigning a significant amount of time and resources to analyze every granular detail, angle or tactic to win that game in November, and hopefully they already started months ago. We definitely know Ohio State has.

Hey anything can help I guess.  Didn’t Hoke have the count down clocks for both OSU and MSU, and he of course only called OSU “Ohio”....didn’t work too well then.

In 2016 the talent and coaching were as close as they have been in over a decade and we stood toe to toe and probably should've won but for our own multiple self-wounds.

In 2013 OSU has notably better talent and coaching (granted, they were a little overrated and were in fact exposed by better MSU and Clemson teams).  However, we played out of our minds and gave a much better aOSU team all they could handle for 59 minutes.  Harbaugh is a better coach than Hoke in almost every way that matters, but he's never gotten the team to play above their talent level in the biggest games.

The thing that I liked about the 2016 team is it looked like it was going somewhere. It had taken a clear step up from the 2015 team. I was looking for another step up in 2017. But things have not been that way. I still think Jed Fisch leaving has been the reason. I think Jim Harbaugh still has not replaced him with someone as good. Maybe that will end up being Matt Weiss... I hope.

An admitted hardcore Ohio St. fan was allowed to ref in the game. He had been held out from reffing in the Ohio St v. Michigan game because of being a hardcore Ohio St fan. I still have not seen a satisfactory reason why he was allowed to ref in that game.

This person gets it.

So Michigan gets fucked on the spot.

What's the excuses for the rest of the game then?  For example, Speight had a 44 QBR. The team rushed for 91 yards on 43 carries.  Michigan had three turnovers.

But yeah, it's the ref's fault.

Ok, Michigan didn't play a great game. That's entirely separate from what was seen from some of the officiating. Michigan didn't play great so pay no attention the the officiating? Any team that doesn't play great should always lose?

That's entirely separate from what was seen from some of the officiating.

No it's not.

That's what losers say.

The fact of the matter is there are 60 minutes in a game and you don't put it the refs hands.

Heck, the very next play after the "spot" Michigan had Ohio dead to rights for a huge loss and Michigan blew it.

I didn't focus on the spot. There are other issues. And every team blows a dead to rights plays in every game.

The officiating mattered. You really think it didn't? You say it was only Michigan's play  that matters?
