Harbaugh definitely knows how to leverage a situation. And hopefully he'll be successful in getting a notable QB soon in the '24 class. That tango with NFL in back to back years definitely didn't help with certain parts of recruiting and the Weiss situation, one can only guess, isn't helping either.

I think is kind of a moral gentleman’s agreement that if you are the 5* QB we are going to commit ourselves to and you commit to us then barring extenuating circumstances your commitment is firm.  We are going to build our class around you.

So yes nothing is binding I think their is code there.

1. this was in spring 2008, which as far as QB recruiting goes is essentially the year 1746

2. pryor absolutely did not commit to michigan ???? he considered michigan, suddenly, after RR came but that's it; he'd been leaning towards OSU forever and michigan managed to make some quick progress in the couple of months between the hire and signing day (plus some, since he waited a little later to sign)

3. maybe you're thinking about the next year, when he had 4-stars kevin newsome and shavodrick beaver committed at QB and both decommitted; newsome went to PSU and never did much, and beaver went to tulsa. michigan got forcier and denard instead.

i really don't understand what possible argument you could be making here. yes, QBs do sometimes decommit, but elite QBs tend to commit early and stay committed. maybe it changes with NIL - Moore, Raiola, and the kid from Florida are all possible examples, although the first two seemingly have different reasons - but it historically hasn't been the case, and made-up examples from 2008 doesn't show us anything either way.

I’m surprised this fact isn’t stated on this board more frequently.  Nothing matters until after the December signing period at the earliest.  And “commitments” are now seemingly more moot than ever as the portal and NIL are completely rearranging the landscape.  College football recruiting used to be a volatile cesspool.  Now I’m not sure how to accurately categorize it.

A University of Florida QB commit who just signed an LOI less than a month ago allegedly wants out of it because he says the $13M in NIL he was guaranteed is now not happening?!??   Supposedly, he originally “committed” to Miami due to their NIL offer and then switched his verbal because Florida out bid them.  Is a Dutch Auction about to supersede signing day?

Sam Webb was/is close w/ the Davis family. Interviewed his father several times already. Him saying Harbaugh’s yr by yr flirtation was negatively affecting recruiting, I assume that was coming from the horses mouth.

I’m sorry but I would expect Harbaugh to sign a long term contract now with teeth on a buyout. That should make him more stable to Michigan than most coaches. Especially Day after he gets thrashed by Michigan three years in a row.

If I am Raiola I am jumping into this recruitment when you look at the program and the depth chart. Michigan is pretty sweet opportunity for a guy that wants to be a leader.

Edit. This probably says it’s time to shit or get off the pot Jadyn.

I think there are other issues that plague Michigan than just an "opportunity." We have seen this for a long time. We had hoped having seen the success we have seen in the last two years would reap huge dividends in the recruiting side but the evidence is proving that success on the field is not translating into any type of recruiting success at all.

We had one “off” year because of Harbaugh’s serious look at the NFL. This one seems much different. There is certainly room for speculation.

I am predicting a long term buyout contact and a highly ranked 2024 class. That means we had a one year blip and I still think there is some really strong program talent from last years class.

And I believe the portal fits Harbaugh and his NFL mindset in the college game. No more wondering if that skinny high schooler can develop into a college athlete. Plus if your a good college player looking to get paid in the league, it’s a win win for both parties.

If you're going to blame Harbaugh for Davis not committing because of the NFL flirtation (when he had already been delaying a decision since October/November), then you also need to give Harbaugh credit for Corum, Zinter, CJ, Keegan, Sainristil, Barrett all coming back. He used that flirtation to get changes in NIL that likely influenced them coming back.

We don’t need a whole new program, we need a couple agreements from the AD and large boosters.

I watched Harbaugh sit court-side at the Lipscomb game next to a billionaire. Do I think that was because he wanted to watch a meaningless basketball game while there was CFP to be prepped for? No…
