FTR, I don’t want an AD that “supports the coach”. I want someone with the gumption to fire the coach if he’s given a reason to.

But the impetus for this latest investigation is so transparently spurious and preemptive that anyone who recognizes the stench of politics could tell the NCAA is waging a PR war. But past behavior indicates Warde isn’t ceding ground to set up a long con; he’s just avoiding confrontation and leaving Harbaugh high and dry. He’s once again doing nothing, because he doesn’t like doing anything. NCAA could be breaking into his house and he wouldn’t move his fat ass to lock the door if his kids were in harm’s way.

The AD should never act like a fan.  That's how you get dysfunctional organizations like MSU, where the people who are supposed to be in charge are busy licking the boots of the people they allegedly manage.

Warde Manuel is Jim Harbaugh's boss.  He's not supposed to charge off and attack the NCAA like a sports radio caller.

It's fine for Warde to not be confrontational with the NCAA from the beginning. Telling the NCAA to go fuck itself is not a productive strategy.

The problem that I had is that he didn't seem to stand up for the integrity of his coaching staff, because these allegations are directly questioning Harbaugh's integrity, ethics, etc. Harbaugh is a competitive guy, but he's not a cheater.

IMO, Warde should've said something like:

I have spoken to Coach Harbaugh and he has assured me that neither he nor his staff have broken any NCAA rules with regard to stealing opponent's signals. I have requested all evidence from the B1G and NCAA and we will review this evidence. In the meantime, we will cooperate with their investigation while ensuring that the truth is brought to light in the end.

I'm glad he made the statement.

When the NCAA doesn't follow its own rules, fails to enforce serious violations at other schools, and engages in PR smear campaigns, it's time to push back.

Isn't it possible to steal signs by watching film instead of sending someone into an opponent's stadium filming surreptitiously? I've heard that the so-called "ALL 22" film provides a pretty comprehensive view. Isn't this all they have to say? "Yes, we were able to predict with some certainty what our opponents were going to do because we studied the film, and we believed were able to decipher some of their signs."

Seems to me two things have to be proven:

1) Michigan sent a staffer to scout upcoming opponents

2) Michigan communicated opponents' intentions electronically

Would not be surprised if the NCAA was trying to drive Harbaugh out of the college game, given his support of paying players and advocating for changes like allowing one-time transfers. I am sure they would love to not have him continually making waves that eventually will make them obsolete (if they aren't already).

Honestly, its hard to take the NCAA seriously at this point after how they handled the Kansas and Self situation. When the FBI is involved and people go to jail but you say 'nothing to see here,' I think that's very telling as to what kind of organization you really are.

I think its also very clear who is actually looking out for the student-athletes' best interest (hint: not the NCAA).

I don't get why sending a scout to watch an opponent is against the rules.  People study film of their opponents no?  You can see it on TV most of the tims. I remember doing this shit in high school.  You mix up your signs so you can't track them. It's the entire fucking point of using signs instead of holding up a card that says what the play is. Intercepting them via electronic means during a game is a different thing. I can understand why that's illegal.

I don't get it either. In high school the only way to scout a team was to bring a camcorder to their stadium. And ESPN/ABC/FOX et al. broadcast every single Big Ten game. If there is a concern about videotaping the sideline, make a rule against that. There are dozens of legitimate reasons to scout a team in person, and only one illegitimate one.

I confess to some confusion about the "electronic means" ban. So I take it that it's OK if a sideline coach looks across the field, sees the opposing team signal in the play, and says, "I recognize that signal, it's a draw play" and signals our D. On the other extreme, I guess it would violate the rules if we have some supercomputer database with 20 years of data and a camera on the other sideline that does the same thing and sends a text to the sideline. But, does it mean that someone in the press box can't do what I described in the first example and call down to the sidelines?

From the article:

According to the Yahoo Sports report, two teams that the Wolverines have played this season believed Michigan knew the plays they were running before they were run.

Translation: Michigan beat us in ways that even we did not see coming, so we're going to complain to the NCAA.

IF this investigation proves to be nothing and no evidence was found, then the school and coaches that said these things should

1. Be made public by name.

2. Be suspended for 6 games.

I think Michigan afterwards should just release all the names and everything involved. They should say who the coaches are, who at the conference was involved, everyone. The conference won't punish anyone since they're the ones telling people Michigan is cheating.

Michigan should take it into their own hands and say, well Idiot 1, 2 and 3 accused us of this, Idiot A, B, C at the conference tried to do this, and their evidence was x, y, z.

With 10s of thousands of people at these games I don’t see how the NCAA will be able prove that Michigan had people at them  specifically spying. If it even comes to that. What am I missing?

I'll NEVER CLICK ON THE FREEP AGAIN!

I swore I wouldn't after Stretch-Gate, but I relented eventually. Today, however, there is an article by some clown named Dan Wolken titled: Time for Harbaugh to drop self-righteous act after more cheating claims.

I know it's clickbait, but that is really low-class so-called journalism.
