Harbaugh Deal could be done by End Of Week Per Sam Webb

Submitted by Hail2UM83 on January 11th, 2023 at 8:36 AM

Just a bit of info from 247 and Sam Webb. If this is not allowed I apologize in advance.and please feel free to remove

I feel it necessary now to turn attention back to Harbaugh Webblog Part Three where I emphasized how that was a piece from the perspective of agents. It’s important to note the perspectives presented here in Part Four come from University and donor circles. They believe the agent views of Harbaugh being at the top of Denver’s list are off. They also believe that Harbaugh’s strong preference is to stay put in Ann Arbor. An obvious litmus test of their views will be if an in-person interview with Denver is scheduled. As of this evening, sources in University circles indicated no such request has been made yet. That has only added to the confidence that Harbaugh is nearing a deal with Michigan. How near, you ask? Those same sources expressed their belief that an agreement could be reached by the end of the week. If the process drags out longer than that and an in-person interview is scheduled, then the confidence that they expressed this evening will be diminished. Especially with the dead period set to end Thursday, and Harbaugh expected to be in Colorado sometime after that for a home visit with Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit LB Hayden Moore.

Santa Ono tweeted that he is looking forward to his meeting "this morning with the Athletics department." Would love to be a fly on the wall...

I would love a genuine neutral 3rd party assessment of Warde Manuel's performance because it sure seems like he's handled every football/basketball issue less than ideally.  Besides hiring Juwan Howard, he's seemingly been unable to keep issues like this in-house/under control and lacks backbone when it comes to defending Michigan from the NCAA/other schools.

Conversely,

OMG, why can't Sam or Angelique get ANY info on any of this?  I mean, give us SOMETHING!

Making definitive statements about constantly changing situations is hard.  People want info, but they'll rake you over the coals if it turns out to be wrong.  Could be it was right when you said it, things can always change.

I knew that if I stayed away from all the worry and strife for a few days that I would come back to what may be the....prelude to good news? Am I reading it right? *checks notes again*

If you are going to post info from another site, please post the link. If it’s a direct copy, use the “ button (and don’t copy so much). If you are paraphrasing what he said, say so.

I believe the majority of us understand that Harbaugh keeps things tight lipped and no one other than his family members, assistant coaches and recruits really have any idea which way he is leaning. Agents and NFL teams both use the media to spin things in thier favor. He could of turned down Denver or Carolina for all we know and they will spin it to save face. His name drives clicks from both M and NFL fans. Over reacting to any click bait is a low IQ move. We will know when we need to know. The names being tossed around as potential replacements hardly inspire confidence when replacing a guy that is top 5 in his profession.

I've defended Warde before, though I've largely soured on him since the Mel Pearson situation where he seemingly tried to bury that law firm's report in order to retain Mel despite basically everyone telling him not to.  But JFC do your job and get a deal done OR move on.  He does deserve some credit for being someone who apparently pushed for Harbaugh to be retained after 2020 but at this point a lot of these annoyances could have been mitigated by him just paying Harbaugh an appropriate salary after 2021 even if Harbaugh wasn't playing hardball.  Just look around college football and make sure Harbaugh is paid like a top 5-7 coach and be down with it.

I've long maintained Harbaugh was returning because (a) he does seem to like it here, (b) he's been forthright in the past about wanting to leave and so when he's said he wants to return we should take that at face value, (c) the level of shitty reporting by people with their "sources" gave off the distinct vibe of manufactured controversy, and (d) I think the NFL likes the idea of Harbaugh more than the implementation, and what teams want now are guys like Harbaugh wrapped up in 30-something wunderkinds.  Nothing has much changed on that front so I assume Harbaugh will be resigned to a nice extension pretty soon.

Warde is a good administrator, and I can see where Santa would want to keep him.  I mean, the guy has the AD humming along pretty nicely.  But he cannot stand in the way of re-signing Harbaugh, that simply cannot be allowed.

As for 2020, I don't recall there being a unanimous agreement for either keeping him or not with the Regents.  And Warde just doesn't have that command of a room when he walks in to sway concurrence in a decision of that magnitude and division (my opinion, obviously).  I don't think he could pull off an actual firing of Harbaugh without being humiliatingly overruled - not in 2020, and especially not now.

If Warde is trying to lowball JH for any reason, then Warde needs to go.  The one thing of which there is no shortage for Michigan is money.  Pay him full market value for his services and back him up by fighting the NCAA.  Isn't the AD supposed to be a leader?  He seems like an administrator and paper-pusher, but seems to show little spine when tough situations arise.

All of this to say essentially what John Bacon has been saying since last year when all of these shenanigans started:

No one knows anything.

Sorry pal, appreciate the update and not trying to poo poo on your information, but that's essentially what this is saying. We still, at the core of all of this, don't know squat.

if we're quoting JUB.... follow that up with "harbaugh is not going anywhere"  and then "there's a real chance that Harbaugh leaves for the NFL"  and then close with "no one knows anything"

Just like a weatherman, there's a 50% chance of sun tomorrow, with party cloudy conditions and the conditions may be right for precipitation.     Are all my bases covered?

yeah, he should have told JJ NOT to throw two pick sixes and asked Mullens not to fumble the ball before crossing the goal line..... .  he clearly forgot to address those three incidents ahead of time, otherwise we would have won!!!!

I'm being sarcastic because your comment is pretty ridiculous.  There were a couple questionable coaching decisions, but there were quite a few poor decisions and failures to execute that caused that loss, in addition to some shitty officiating.

I also don't see how he can be at the top of the broncos list after a 2 hour video chat. They would surely want to bring him to Denver for a longer follow up in person interview if they were serious about Harbaugh. Maybe they need to interview their Rooney rule coaches first before pursuing Harbaugh harder so they don't get fined or lose picks, hard to say. Some reports say Harbaugh initiated the Carolina interests which was not mutual. I think Jim's agent is going to make it sound like every NFL vacancy has him at the top of their list and they all want to pay him 15 mil a year, not because it's true but because it's his job. I think Jim will accept any NFL team that accepts him. And like last year he will keep up as plan B if the NFL turns him down again.
