Guessing Speight's destination

Submitted by oriental andrew on

First, let me say that I'm thankful for what he has done as our quarterback and hope he gets his health back in order.

That said, any guesses as to his destination?

Based on nothing, seems like UVA could be a good fit. He is from Virginia, they lose their senior starter, and second string is currently a redshirt freshman. The other quarterbacks on the roster include a junior also listed as the long snapper and a true freshman also listed as a wide receiver. Any other thoughts on where he might transfer?

EDIT:

Yes, it was brought up here and there in the "Speight is transferring" thread and front page, but those are random comments scattered throughout all the dreck. This is specifically to speculate on where he might be a good fit.

Seems NC State might be a possibility - they have 3 RS Juniors and 3 true freshman at the QB position this season. Who knows if any/all of them will return for a 5th year. I really have no clue.

It is probably going to take a few days for everyone to get their bearings back, so while under normal circumstances, we probably would have tried to pack all this into the previous thread, we'll let this sit this time. That, and we're going to need to fill some space in December before we hit the conference basketball slate.

Say a MAC school or maybe UVA like others are mentioning. Guy had a broken neck basically, I'm surprised he's not retiring but any head coach should be somewhat worried about his mental side after getting hit. To me he seemed like a different QB this season. Maybe it was a mechanical thing or something in his head. Wish him the best!

Just the fact that they could then run and pass-pro gives a QB a lot more field-life.

The guy did a lot with what he had to work with imo.

This wouldn't be popular but consider the zag tactic that its an excellent time also to look at life ahead, become a solid backup QB and see what kind of academic improvements he could make in his career choices as a benefactor of the financial heft of the school.  If he has coaching aspirations learning a new offense could definitely benefit him.  I can't tell you what kind of injuries he has sustained but they could be starting to take a toll with 300# guys body slamming him.  As I recall he had a significant injury in high school...lacrosse related (?)

UCLA - Rosen is gone. Kelly will need to build a system but needs a stop gap (yes, Kelly is a spread guy but hopefully he learned the RichRod experience after the 2008 M team about trying to install spread in year 1)

Arkansas - new coach. Allen is a senior

CMU - it worked for Morris

Agreed that UVA makes a lot of sense.

The good news for Wilton is IF he is truly healthy, he was 12-3 as a starter and was not benched.

If he wants to play in the NFL then Toledo would be a great option.  He would pretty much be guaranteed to be the starter there as their current QB is a senior and will be getting drafted.  They return a lot of talent and should win the MAC again.  Toledo has put a lot of offensive talent in the NFL.
