In the future (hopefully very distant future), what does Michigan do to honor Harbaugh?

In the vein of what players from today will be the coaches in 20 years...

Yost Ice area

Crisler area (sorry, it will never be center to me)

Schembechler Hall

Lloyd Carr Tunnel

Give Coach Harbaugh's last three years and the National Championship, let's start the speculation on what Michigan would do to honor Harbaugh?  Some new building on the athletic campus?  Renaming something?

My highest aspiration for myself has always been to have a plaque with my name on a urinal in the basement of the former West Engineering building.

So it's a bit beyond me to imagine how to honor someone who actually has mattered.

"The MMBbones memorial urinal"

Wow! I can only dream...

The James Joseph Harbaugh Memorial Podium for press conferences.

The James Joseph Harbaugh Home Plate at the baseball stadium (complemented by the Ryan Day Bag at third base)

More seriously, maybe the home locker room or even the field itself. But I prefer just to think about them going to work in a month or so, getting that spring ball going. A couple of big games early for Team 145. Win each day.

"I know you’re all feeling the darkness here today. But there’s no reason to give in. No matter what you’ve heard, this process will not take years. In my heart, I know we cannot be defeated, because there is an answer that will open the door. There is a way around this system. This is a test of our patience and commitment." -DD

Lloyd Carr: won/shared 5 conference titles; 1 national championship; 6-7 vs OSU

Jim Harbaugh: won 3 conference titles; 1 national championship; 3-5 vs OSU

Lloyd got a tunnel named after him; name the east entrance to the stadium after Harbaugh?

harbaugh has already passed Bo and Lloyd, in my mind. The Women's Hockey Arena maybe should be named after Red Berenson (altho, was he part of the reason the program was blocked? if so, BAM Harbaugh Ice Center) but he prolly deserves the field at M stadium named after him. Him, Crisler, Yost. Ahead of Kipke and Oosterbaan. Ahead of Bo and Lloyd. Heck maybe Bo and Lloyd are even with Oosterbaan. And the way Kipke's tenure ended, sure the 4 of them can be together.

If he comes back and continues at the current level, the stadium. If he leaves, a statue out front of the stadium. Replace Bo’s statue, Harbaugh has surpassed him. My vote

I feel safe demanding a walk-through statue garden with stations like:

  • Harbaugh playing peruball shirtless in pastey white dad-bod
  • Harbaugh climbing a tree, and at a sleepover
  • Harbaugh visiting Schembechler's grave with Ohio St looming in the near distance
  • Harbaugh running a football camp in Alabama
  • Harbaugh working on a white board full of slogans like "1% better today than yesterday, 1% better tomorrow than today", or "known friend and trusted agent"
  • Harbaugh gifting the Pope a winged helmet
  • Harbaugh paying for a cheeseburger
  • Harbaugh showing Brown & Gattis the door, and hiring Minter & Moore
  • Harbaugh sitting out a game, watching it on tv
  • Harbaugh repeating the peruball pose, but with the natty trophy

just ideas.

Replace the statue of Bo with a statue of several UM players with the title “The Team”.

Rename Schembechler Hall “Hall of Victors” or something along those lines.

Create an area for plaques of Bo, Yost, Crisler, Carr, Kipke, Harbaugh, etc. That say you honor their contributions while not being too open about glorifying them.

Anything but a statue. Except for the one exception where, in the 2010s, we became that kind of school; historically, we are not that kind of school. And I like that about us.

A 200 foot statue or naming the campus Harbaughville…no matter what we do, it won’t be enough. Not only was the program struggling before he arrived, but college football was dominated by a few elite schools and it felt like you had to buy a roster that could compete. I had given up hope of seeing a national championship but somehow, some way he did it. Amazing. He’s earned the right to chase a Lombardi trophy, but it would be great if he decided to stay.
