Friday Posbang and Drinking Thread

Submitted by 1989 UM GRAD on September 17th, 2021 at 4:37 PM

What's everyone up to tonight?  Anyone have exciting plans?  Going to the game tomorrow?

I'm having a Bulleit Bourbon on the rocks while I finish up some work...and before we head out to dinner with another couple.

Picked up my son - 2023 UM Grad - from his house on S. Division earlier this afternoon to bring him home for an orthodontist appointment.   He just left in my car...which we'll bring back home after the game tomorrow.  It's always a pleasure to listen to him screech the tires while pulling out of our driveway in my manual transmission GTI.

We'll probably head up to Ann Arbor around 10:30 tomorrow morning...the best window to avoid traffic...and get in to our seats just in time to see the band and the team take the field.

Wishing my fellow MOTs a Happy, Health New Year.  L'shana tovah.

South Division, eh? I was not too far from there, possibly around the same time, near Greene / E. Hoover, skulking about the block trying to get notes for some work-related items. The walk back to my car allowed some decent views of the stadium, of course.

We butchered 8 old laying hens this morning. We did the same thing last Friday.

Have to decide if we go to the local HS game tonight. Our frosh grandson is playing in the band for the first time.

We have an 8:36 tee time in the morning.

Life is pretty simple out here on the Kansas prairie.

Some wine and trash tv tonight, probably, unless the 'hookers and blow' thing works out  Tomorrow is hopefully about gtfo of the city and letting the new car loose on some curves. Sirius for the game. Or I'll just work, because deadlines and billable expectations never sleep.

Quiet evening at home, I think. Spent the day working on the 'new' fifth wheel, getting it ready for a short shakedown cruise next week, life and weather permitting. Just cracked open a Blue Light and started thinking about what to fix for dinner. Dear wife started new meds a week ago and hasn't figured out how to handle the side effects well yet, so I'm kinda on my own but don't want to be too far away in case I am needed. I'd thought about going to the local high school football game, but decided against it. Halfway through a novel, so might as well finish that tonight. This retirement gig ain't so bad, but my To Do list keeps growing as I think of more things I'd like to get done!

A Belle Meade Old Fashioned to wipe off the week followed by a bottle of My Favorite Neighbor Cab with the wife as we settle in for some Ted Lasso and Friday night college football.

Drinking Wayfinder Cold IPA. Not worth the 5.29 a can label it is printed on. About to play 18 holes of "executive" golf which for this course means all holes are under 90 yards. Looking forward to some lawnmower beers later.

My favorite Wisconsin craft beer.  A no-nonsense lager.

Plans for the weekend include making salsa with fresh garden tomatoes, spoiling my aging dog, and grilling burgers to celebrate a Michigan football victory.

Charles Woodson Intercept 2018 Cabernet. Pretty darn good for ~$20. If you go by what his website says, he's not just a name on the label, he puts the work in.

Dinner out with the missus in an hour or so, seafood Italian style. Got my eye on a bottle of Amarone there. Hoping they have it. Maybe a beer later, back home.

Watching the game at home tomorrow. Maybe bloody Mary's with lunch.

Happy Friday to everyone. Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

Drinking Hendricks tonight and any other liquor in our cabinet over the next couple of weeks.

The S.O. Went to see her family in South Texas for the next 2-3 weeks, so tonight I plan on starting the process of breaking down things and packing stuff in our apartment for our impending move in late October.

Ideally, when she gets back, all we will only have a bed on the floor and her clothes left to pack.

Currently drinking a frosty cold root beer, undecided as to whether to hit the Miller Lite later.  Going to watch some bad football on TV, do a few chores and then quit drinking and go to bed.  Earlyish tee time in the morning.

Few drams of my brother in-laws bottle he brought me of Glenfarclus 17 yr, so swear and smooth and fresh, no pinch of water needed, outstanding in every way. Rum a little later in the evening. Perfect

I'm just chillin' with a cold glass of carbonated water (my favorite low calorie beverage) and going to hit the exercise bike for a while.  Heading to Uncle John's tomorrow morning before the noon kickoff.

Now I'm jealous. Have a donut and cup of cider for me, will ya?

A couple of years ago I came across some heirloom varieties and got a whole new appreciation for apples. There's just nothing like the taste of some varieties like Esopus Spitzenburg (Thomas Jefferson's favorite apple), Arkansas Black, Roxbury Russet, Newton Pippen...

Apparently, there's an orchard, Alber Orchard, with a bunch of heirloom varieties just west of AA. If I'm ever up in the fall for a game, I'll have to make a stop there.

There's a family birthday gathering here. So just a few Stella Artois, and maybe the Illinois/Maryland game in the background.

Just came down out of the treestand … first attempted deer hunt of the season. (No joy)

A little Makers 46 and Coke to wash down some Detroit-style pizza.
