One of the most irritating things about professional journalists today—in whatever field—is that so few of them seem to be willing to admit that something they wrote turned out to be obviously dumb or wrong. And, just as bad, how few professional journalists are willing to criticize another journo when they write or say something obviously dumb or wrong—they close ranks and circle the wagons against outside critics as well as any group.

It would have been easy for Balas to simply admit, "Yep my info was bad and my tweet was bad" but that requires a level of humility that so few appear to possess.

That is a bad one.  The worst new thing in journalism is the non-editorial use of phrases like "falsely claimed" or "asserted, incorrectly."   The journalist does not get to decide what is correct or incorrect.  They can say "contrary to the weight of the evidence" or "in contrast to widespread public opinion," but what they do now is make themselves a source without presenting a factual basis for their claim of being one.

What's funny is that I didn't even realize I was blocked, and his content was missing, for what....9 months now? Until I clicked on the link in this post and saw I was blocked. Wondering what I could have possibly said, I searched my Twitter and sure enough...that's the last, and one of the only, things I ever replied to him with on Twitter

The RB room will be in good hands with Fred Jackson. It was good to hear form Mike Hart this morning and he's improving. I forgot about Fred Jackson being an able backup or interim RB coach so all is well and Mike can rest until the medical staff tells him when it's time to return to Schembechler Hall.

Do we know how much, if any, Mike Hart was doing regarding in-game play calling and other such decisions? I know under Harbaugh it's always been pretty murky regarding who is calling or suggesting plays, so we may not know.  I'm just wondering how much Hart's absence hurts us in terms of immediate gametime responsibilities.

Mike Hart probably decides what plays need Blake Corum vs Donovan Edwards. Mike also decide how long to keep Corum in the game and when to switch. I am sure Mike decided to bench CJ Stokes after he fumbled against Maryland.

Same probably true with the WR coach as to who to insert and switch out after depending on the play calling. Who's hot and who's not also decides.

Hart is the "run game coordinator" as well, but I'm not sure what that means in terms of duties, in-game or otherwise.  I'd imagine with a week to prepare, and Fred Jackson being the guy stepping in, they'll have plenty of opportunity to get him up to speed and/or shift certain responsibilities to others to maintain continuity.

Does this guy - Fred Jackson - know anything about Michigan football - the RB position - and how to coach them?

OH, he's the Fred Jackson that coached a number of Michigan RB's (not going a far back as Fielding Yost) - but, that probably included Tyron Wheatley, Anthony Thomas, Tim Biakabutuka, and - maybe Mike Hart.

I think the position group is in very trusted and capable hands until Coach Hart returns to the practice field and sideline.

I coached HS tennis for almost 40 years, both seasons.  Gave it up a couple years ago, stepped back in after Labor Day weekend to coach our JV guys this fall after our head coach quit.  On my first day back, one of the parents asked me "So do you have any tennis experience?". I told her a little bit, but I was a quick learner.

Bam!

During the game Saturday Klatt was saying how “your position coach is sometimes like a father” in response to Mike Hart being carted off and the potential mental impact on Corum/Edwards.

It struck me at that time that Fred Jackson played the same role for Mike Hart. So…

When I heard FJ was subbing for MH in the 2nd half at IU, the natural leap was GRANDFATHER figure stepping up!

Nice to see it continue - although hope “Big Brother” is back!!!
