Under the table bags of money have become over the table bags of money. Sadly, many kids are going to sell out to the highest bidders.

I'll say it and I'll name it.  How dare these black kids go to a historically black school (after being committed to a PWI - predominantly white institution)...where, a high profile black coach swooped in at the last second, and where in theory, this black student-athlete has learned that he can earn the most money from his name, his image, or his likeness.

(And hey, "that guy" who read that and bristled, I'll save you the time and your thumbs from typing..."why does it always have to be about race?!!!"  *insert more outrage*  ...because more often than not, it is, or it is at least a factor.  And no, I will not "give (you) a break."  Just close your eyes and pretend he went to Georgia, this would be a nonstory outside of the college football recruiting world and you'll feeeel better.)

Interesting but this Twitter guy is drawing misleading conclusions.  Rep says he's been working on the bill for six months, Twitter user frames the story to make it look like the bill is a response to FSU losing the recruit.

In any case better NIL freedoms for student athletes is a good thing, even if some of the people pushing for it are doing so for less than altruistic reasons.

He was probably waiting to introduce the bill at a time when it would get news coverage, and signing day with the FSU decommit was perfect timing.

And agree that NIL is good for the athletes, but ideally there should be uniform, nationwide rules that aren't derived from state legislation. Sports and politics rarely mix well.

NCAA needs to mandate consistent NIL rules. The inconsistency among states and schools cannot continue for college sports to remain healthy and a remotely level playing field

This is the problem. The consensus opinion amongst coaches seems to be that it’s the Wild West out there. That’s going to lead to even more confusion and instability. Pro leagues like the NFL have internal rules and regulations, but as many warned, the NCAA screwed up by resisting the inevitable for so long. Now they are rightfully viewed as impotent and a joke, and so there’s no internal governing body to give order to the system. Regulation at the state level isn’t going to work, and I highly doubt the Feds will get involved. So for now it’s just chaos.

So FSU got screwed out of a recruit because of NIL. You guys lost a recruit to Texas today (probably because of NIL. He isn’t walking into a good situation there). We’ve lost two players now to NIL at Texas, while there are probably a couple more that I’m not privy to. I know some of you will say “Oh look at the OSU fan mad about getting screwed by players taking money somewhere else. Pot meet kettle.” Texas, UGA and most of all A&M are killing it in the NIL game and USC is next. Is it time for the donors of our respective schools to start making funds for players like Texas and A&M are doing? We have some of the most lucrative and successful alumni bases in the country and it seems as if we’re getting left in the dust. I for one thought that NIL would really benefit you guys with some of your alumni and donors. It just looks like if we want to play with the big boys, we’re gonna have to spend like the big boys. I don’t like it. I think it’s ruining CFB, but I think some players should be compensated for their NIL. Just asking what you guys think our respective schools should do so we don’t get left behind because it doesn’t look like anyone will be able to build a championship caliber team the old fashioned way anymore.

Yeah something tells me that it had nothing to do with OSU NIL, but national NLI with big agencies and getting money a year earlier. Day has said a few times over the past couple months that he wants “guys who want to be Buckeyes,” that’s great and all… but I’m just not sure OSU and UM can compete for championships at the end of the season with those guys. I want all of our players to be like this, but at a certain point, if the SEC is doing it, we’ll have to start doing it in the end.
