On the First Day of Christmas My MGoBlue Love Gave to me....

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on December 13th, 2023 at 10:32 AM

Mates,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we lost our 'Partridge' in the coaching pear tree so we need to fill in the blank on this one.  While some of you might be partial to the golden rings, the geese-a-laying or even the maids-a-milking, our question is different.  It is a two-part question and goes like this:

1. What do you want Santa to bring the football team beyond the obvious answer of a National Championship*?

2.  What do you want Santa to bring you for the holiday(s)?

*If any of you write 'natty', I will personally call both Santas, the one in the North Pole and the one in Ann Arbor to have you put on the 'Naughty' list.

Have a great day and Go Blue!

For the team: A starring role in a pair of post-game celebratory vlogs from Roman Wilson.

For me: A plate of Count Twists, a dozen Fragels, a Jerry Sprague happy hour and a game-worn Buster Stanley jersey.

I would love for Santa to drop a multi-year contract down Coach Harbaugh's chimney.

Flying out east to spend Christmas with my daughter, son in law and grandsons.

1A. Continued good health, prosperity, happiness and starting calendar ‘24 with a 2-0 record, and
1B. Maintaining the culture the program has established.

2A. A hug and kiss from my family, and

2B. That my children experience the exhilaration of a bowl game win in person in Pasadena.

I would like to see Harbaugh sign a lifetime contract and that will work for q2 as well.

I am going to go pedantic and note that today is not the first day of Christmas. The first day of Christmas is Dec 25th and the 12 days continues from there until the Epiphany on Jan 6th.

1. Jim Harbaugh.  The gift that keeps on giving.

2. I don't 'need' anything, but a box arrived addressed to my MGoWife from the M Den so I know I'm getting something good.

1. Since asking for a championship is obvious, I'll say this. I want our staff to gameplan for Alabama's defensive weaknesses and put together a fully weaponized and aggressive gameplan, with everything we have on the table, right from the start. I want JJ involved in the run game, with reads completely on. I want tendency-breakers for every aspect of the offense. I want the passing game to attack Bama's weak spots, which I assume are at the LB level -- I want Loveland and Barner to have their best games in the Maize and Blue and I want Donovan targeted on the move several times. On defense, I want Minter to work his magic. Don't get tempo'd. Keep Goode off the field on obvious run downs. Use coverages like the OSU game to confuse Bama and open up INT opportunities, so the D can get those Buffs on multiple times.

2. For myself, I haven't really thought about it, honestly. I'm more of a giver these days.

My Christmas wish is that all our players conceive male children that will grow up and attend Michigan so that my kids can enjoy the same feeling of success on the field that we have while I wax on about the good ole days.

For myself, I'd like a stump grinding attachment for my tractor.

#1.5 (gift for us as UM FB fans): The gift of staying at our current level of expectations, which maxes our happiness (= reality / expectations).

We know that UM can compete for conf and national championships in this NIL era. But we also know that it takes an experienced OL free of injuries, experienced QB, special DC etc., which we won't have every single year.

I want Harbaugh to sign the contract & declare that he will stay at UM until the end... of time.

This is what I want for Christmas. Seems like a reasonable request. It's not like I did any advance in-person scouting.

1. I wish for Santa to bring JJ back next year

2. I'm hoping for this really cool "intro pilot instruction" experience through Kenmore Air in Seattle (only $125 so I might have to buy it myself if no one else does)

1. I want at least one of Harbaugh/JJ back. Both would be preferable

2. I want the guts to go out and start my own business so I can stop answering to the idiots above me.

I just want to see Michigan leave it all out on the field against Bama. Go for broke, because you may not have another team quite like this in a long time. Go against tendency, open up the playbook, let JJ be "the guy." Turn JJ reads on, get Donovan out in space, attack the middle of the field, and fergodsakes, PLAY ACTION. Let this offense be the best version of itself. That can still involve Blake running the ball plenty.

If Michigan does all of that and Alabama still wins, I won't lose sleep over that. I can live with knowing Michigan put its absolute best foot forward and just got beat by a team that was better that day. But what I don't want is for Michigan to do exactly what Alabama is expecting it to do. Run the ball up the gut for little to no gain, light first down on fire, and force JJ to have to consistently be a hero on third and long.

I'm worried that Michigan won't turn the green light on for the offense until they're down multiple scores and are forced to do so, like against TCU last year. And unlike TCU, you go down multiple scores against Alabama, they're not letting you get close and turn that back into a game.

You can be conservative and play the "just don't turn the ball over" game against a team like Iowa. You play that way against Alabama, and you're going to lose. Heck, you play that way against any team in this four team field and you're going to lose. If there is one game (hopefully two) where I hope and pray that Harbaugh breaks tendency and goes for broke, this is it.

Please, man. Let this be your Lloyd Carr 2008 Capital One Bowl game.

1. This is a special team with unbelievably cohesive chemistry. After Michigan wins the National Championship this year and many of the leaders move, I want that cohesive chemistry to remain in Ann Arbor for the 2024 team, then for the 2025 team, then for the 2026 team, etc.

2. I want Santa to deliver to everyone at ESPN a raging case of chronic jock itch. And to all the other goons who tried to tear down the Wolverines through this ridiculous manufactured scandal, a giant case of ringworm on the ends of their noses.

2a. For me personally, I want all my kids who are travelling to make it to Michigan safely to celebrate Jesus' birth with us, and make it safely home afterwards. Oh, and I want my son-in-law to understand that he gets to see my grandson any time he wants, and I, living 4 hours away, have limited time with him. Don't try to take the boy away from me!

1. I want JJ to say, "Nah, I'm not done yet" and return next season, along with the same quality portal transfers that we got this year.

2. I will not go into detail out of respect for the "No Politics" rule. Suffice to say that I DESPERATELY wish, hope, and pray that the 2024 election goes the way I want it to.

I would love two more wins.  I would also love a win for my wife who is battling cancer.  U of M has been integral to her treatment, as we live on the other side of the state.

Roses and a Texas sized National championship.

as for yourselves, learn from me and don’t buy the Michigan v. Everybody sweatshirts. Wife bought us each one and after one wash they faded and shrunk like crazy. Very poor quality for a $70 sweatshirt unfortunately
