First day of basketball practice was yesterday

On mobile so not sure how to embed a tweet: https://twitter.com/umichbball/status/1574420084872855552?t=hynkPzX70Ho…
At the end of the video, the Wolverines huddle around head coach Juwan Howard. Wearing a “Black as Hail” t-shirt, Howard tells them, “We got to get ourselves uncomfortable. When I say ‘bring the juice,’ it’s not just a word or slogan. That means bring the juice.”
Can't wait for roundball! Go Blue!

What are expectations this year? I feel like the team will have some challenges. Lots of new and young contributors. I don't see a shooting threat on the roster.
Just curious where we stack up in the b10
September 27th, 2022 at 8:18 AM ^
Lots of new and young contributors - expect that every season. It's the nature of higher level CBB.
The team could use one more shooting threat to emerge, but they do have two in JL and Jett. Williams and even HD emerged as potential 3 point shooters last year. They need to show they can handle a higher volume.

You’re right that they’ll be relying on some young and new faces for contributions. But, any time you have an All-American and All-B1G player on your team, your expectations should be to compete for the B1G title and make a tournament run. That expectation is also made a little more realistic when you take a look around the B1G and see that there aren’t going to be very many strong teams. I think we should all expect Michigan to finish in the top 3-6 of the B1G and make a push for a sweet 16 again. Anything better than that would be a pleasant surprise.

I don't see a shooting threat on the roster
That's one thing that should actually be improved this year
September 27th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
I think Jaelin Llewellyn will definitely be a long range threat. Jace recounted him hitting threes on seven possessions in a row in a game this summer while going against a "UM alum guard."
September 27th, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
I will choose to believe the alum was a locked-in Franz and not, say, a bored Stauskas.

Probably. Expectations were high last year for our shooting prowess, and it was a struggle. So, my expectations are low. I'll be happy to see things improve on the offensive AND defensive ends, quite honestly.
Beilein had built a machine. Year in and year out by the end, our D was great, didnt give up O rebounds, didnt foul, and offense was working well. Would like to see if some of those issues last year were personnel based or Juwan based. I know we ended up with a fun 2 game run in the tourney, but... assuming a National title is a pipe dream, then lets beat our rivals and win the big10!

Obligatory Johns breakout coming in 3, 2,…..
I know he’s at VCU
September 27th, 2022 at 8:38 AM ^
I thought Johns was going to be our breakout last year and be the 2nd best player on the team. Sometimes i'm just .... wrong.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:46 AM ^
To be fair, thinking Johns was going to breakout for the past few years wasn't exactly an unpopular or bad take. When he had some opportunities, he showed some stuff. But he inexplicably never seemed to improve or build on those flashes of quality play
September 27th, 2022 at 10:28 AM ^
It seems to me that Johns was hesitant and thinking too much out there. Sometimes he couldn't handle that B1G physicality. Actually has a pretty stroke but lacks the confidence to let it fly consistently. Wish him all the best going forward.

I was panned for this take last season but I stand by it. I think Howard pulled the plug on Johns in the starting lineup too fast. Johns notoriously took a bit to get up and running and his surges all resulted from periods of time where he was able to build up confidence. We weren't good early in the season and we weren't beating good non-conference opponents regardless of whether we had good Johns or bad Johns so I would have just played it out. I think he would have been playing well by the end of the season and I never liked the lineup with Diabate starting next to Hunter.

Last year I posted that Zeb Jackson didn't impress me and I wasn't buying the hype. I said he would be better transferring. I got negged a lot. Sometimes even when you are right, you are wrong.

Shared season tickets at UDayton. Earmarked that VCU game so I could see Johns. I was really rooting for him in the maize and blue.

Michigan Madness October 21 ; don’t know details yet but usually its a free open practice, 3 pt. shooting contest between men’s v. women’s sharpshooter, and “selfie” stations around the concourse.

I feel bad for whoever's turn it was to bring orange juice to morning practice and forgot.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
They could bring Corum. He's got the juice from what I hear.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
He definitely brought the juice on Saturday.

Pumped for basketball this season. Can’t wait to see what the new guys bring to the court
September 27th, 2022 at 9:23 AM ^
The football team drinks whole milk, apparently the basketball team sticks to oj.... I wonder if its fresh squeezed or concentrate? Pulp or no pulp?
September 27th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
Curious how it would have gone for John Beilein if he'd have worn a "White as Hail" T-shirt. Probably similarly to how his Cavs tenure ended.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
White people could use their ethnicity.
JB could have used “German as Heil”.
Er, wait.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
Well at least it would be accurate. But probably less concerning if he would say hail is white.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
I mean, living through Michigan winters, I can confirm that hail is indeed white. A bit of a non sequitur for a t-shirt, though..

Related question— How will the WBB be this year? Lost Naz, which is a biiiig loss. Is everyone else back? How was the recruiting class?
Iowa gets Female Steph Curry back IIRC so I would think they are B1G faves.

Question for the board. We will be visiting family over Thanksgiving and will be flying out of DTW on the 30th. Michigan plays Virginia on the 29th in what I assume will be a later start and we will be staying in Ann Arbor that evening.
I am tempted to take my 3 year old son to that game because he likes watching Michigan basketball with me on the TV (Hunter is his favorite player) and I am wondering if it will be easy to get tickets just before going? Also, what section would be good to sit in with a small child? And finally, is the Graduate a good place to stay for a family of 4? My wife and 7 month old daughter will also be there but not attending the game.
Any input appreciated.
