Will Hall's looks the most accurate to my idiotic eye.
January 15th, 2023 at 8:54 AM ^
Anyone voting OSU above us is suffering from the same 1997 recency bias that propelled Nebraska, except worse. An 11-2, non-conference champ, who happened to give UGA a good game in their finale. The same team that, in their last 5 weeks of conference play was tied with NW, trailing PSU and in a dogfight with Maryland, before having their asses handed to them in a game they'd been talking sh*t about for 362 days. They give UGA a good game, and suddenly they're #2, over a 13-1 team that crushed them at home. Ridiculous bias, and a classic example of voting based on the most recent game.
And how on Earth could Pat Fitzgerald vote like that? I've lost all respect for the guy. For any B1G coach to have so little respect for winning the B1G championship is pathetic. The dude himself won the B1G, and should revere how difficult that is.
Got to hand it to Saban too, votes himself #2. I wonder how many other 11-2 teams he's voted #2.
January 15th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
People essentially are irrational.
Sorry this is a fact. You support Michigan football. Go sit in on Michigan professors lectures.
One of the things I like the most about UofM is how much of the faculty has resisted the last decade-plus of normalization of political insanity/extremism, however, the administration (the bane of faculty) has gone in the total opposite direction, they've fully embraced the political insanity.
Also, sadly, the coporatization is now at full flywheel, and intellectualism is not only a dirty word, but losing very badly (as oppose to corporations/greed who remain a dirty word, but are still winning mightily!)
The upside to the weird marriage of semi-professional sports coupled to instituitions of inquiry and all the $$$/PR that at stake, is that we'll soon get a BIGGER playoff, and though it's still also an arbitrary system of measurement, it is one that surely has less human "opinion" input, and more player/coaching error input (which is, you know, the game that is played on the field--i.e. win or go home, versus, win/lose/draw and then we'll decide where you rank afterwards)
January 15th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
so then you think Saban got it wrong?
January 15th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
It depends entirely on what he thinks he's ranking.
Alabama still has the scariest (and objectively best) roster on all of CFB.
No one ever wants to face is Alabama—and Georgia only entered that realm in the last two years.
January 15th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
I am sure you are much smarter than me but I can't be the only one who read your post who has no idea what you said. I am mesmerized by it. I see you are very passionate about something. I just don't know what it is and I can't even venture a guess. This thread is about the final Coaches Poll.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Lol, well then I'm definitely not smarter, I'm getting roasted over here, yeah that's on me.
Also I'm screen-capping and printing this to hang at my desk as an editing reminder
What I meant to communicate is that I'm agreeing with the post I'm replying to, that he's right they are suffering from recency-bias (on of the biggest cognitive biases, and worth familiarizing oneself with)
And I'm trying to say I'm happy that we'll be getting an expanded playoff (though it will fundamentally change rivalries/tradition)
What I got distracted with was my own lamenting of the current facades of rationalism giving cover fire for what really amounts to "well I don't care about facts, as my opinion, feelings, and personal beliefs are more important than facts"
January 16th, 2023 at 12:24 AM ^
Ditto Will Hall.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:26 PM ^
What all of us wouldn't give to see this from 1997...especially that fat azz Phil Fulmer's vote
January 15th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
The same Phat Fill who says he can't remember how he voted in the most controversial Coach's Poll he ever voted in? I guess it would be a surprise to Phat Fill himself to see it.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:31 PM ^
Middle Tennessee and Utah State? Fuck those clowns
January 14th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
Middle Tennessee gave us one of the greatest schadenfreude games ever. I can't be mad at them.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:27 AM ^
Reminds me of my favorite staee joke that spring.
Why didn't the staee students make it to Florida for spring break?
They couldn't get past Middle Tennessee State 😂😂🤣😂
January 15th, 2023 at 8:17 AM ^
Put em on the schedule.
January 15th, 2023 at 11:11 AM ^
Makes no sense. If you’re downgrading Michigan the only reason can be because they lost to TCU because that’s literally our only loss. The implication being that losing to TCU is some terrible mark against us. Yet both rank 2 loss TCU ahead of us??? (One at 2nd and one at 3rd)
January 14th, 2023 at 11:36 PM ^
Schiano must want Rutgers to lose by 78 again next season.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
Wish we were playing Northwestern and the Domers too - voting pattern must be an Irish thing.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:37 PM ^
I guess that's to be expected from Narduzzi. But what do Rick Stockstill and Blake Anderson have against us?
January 14th, 2023 at 11:37 PM ^
I'm sorry if this is common knowledge and I'm the only one who doesn't know...but why doesn't Harbaugh vote?
January 14th, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
Because no man really knows the true rankings?
January 14th, 2023 at 11:54 PM ^
God that's good, rob f LOL
January 14th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
Don't know but if I had to speculate, I'd guess that it's completely worthless and has no impact on the sport anymore, fortunately. Imagine if losers like Pat Narduzzi determined the champion.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
Jim probably was voting us #1 every week.
Coaches' poll official: "Now Coach Harbaugh, we've been over this before. The rules state that the winner of the CFP must be #1 in the final poll. No one else."
Harbaugh: "There's no way I'm not supporting my team."
Coaches' poll official: "Well, then, we're going to have to strip you of your ballot."
Harbaugh: "Well then."
January 15th, 2023 at 8:26 AM ^
I'm willing to bet that he won't vote because he doesn't want to 'diminish' another team. Dude pretty much goes all in with the things he says and does, and he will not compare teams/players/programs/whatever because that necessarily diminishes one from the other. I can see this as a reason he'd tell the Coaches Poll representative, politely, to go away.
January 15th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
Not every coach votes.
January 15th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
It would appear that none of the playoff teams voted; not sure if that is by design or not.
I think Saban's delusional - they lose to Tennessee but are 4 spots ahead and #2. Whateva
January 15th, 2023 at 2:18 PM ^
The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:38 PM ^
Proves there are a lot of fucking stupid coaches in college football.
January 14th, 2023 at 11:38 PM ^
Wow, some wild votes. That said, even tuck and frames had us at 3, ohio at 4.
a few had us ahead of TCU, one of them had TCU like 8th
January 15th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
Never disliked Franklin or Tucker. They don’t seem like assholes like Dantonio. Just incompetent which actually makes them kinda likeable. (Frames did have the sandwich incident and Tucker acting clueless after the tunnel incident but I think that speaks more to the incompetence)
January 14th, 2023 at 11:39 PM ^
Nick Saban and Dana Dimel are all sorts of crazy to me. At least with Saban he knows it doesn't matter and had the humility to at least put Georgia #1. But Dimel putting USC #8 and Utah #6, ahead of teams that beat them to end the year, is stupid, as is putting TCU #9. Does he honestly believe that USC, a shitty defense held together with duct tape and a +20 TO margin, would even put up a fight against TCU?
January 15th, 2023 at 8:28 AM ^
Boy would TCU-USC be a fun game to watch, though! At least offensively... Michigan (and Iowa) fans would get an ulcer watching those defenses! I say TCU wins by 3 scores going away...
January 14th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Lol...Tennessee at 4? Sure Pat.
January 15th, 2023 at 7:19 AM ^
His picks spelled GOAT I think he was trying to be cute…
January 14th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Imagine not voting for your own team. Tucker and Allen had to swallow that pill.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:19 AM ^
Narduzzi, Stockstill and Anderson can all collectively suck my left nut.
And the number of coaches that ranked Ohio St ahead of Michigan is astonishing. Those creeps are all heavily drugged up...or drunk. Greg Schiano and Pat Fitzgerald are two of them. We don't play NW next season unless it's the B1G CG. But mark Sept. 23 down for Rutgers' visit to the Big House. Schiano doing his part to heat up the rivalry.
Will Hall is a hero.
EDIT: I just noticed that Schiano ranked Michigan ahead of TCU. OK, we'll only beat them by 24 instead of 40.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:37 AM ^
I counted 17 coaches that made that incredibly stupid decision.
January 15th, 2023 at 12:30 AM ^
All I can figure is that some of those idiots thought the object of the exercise was to spell something--good job Narduzzi, I guess, you spelled G-O-A-T
January 15th, 2023 at 1:11 AM ^
I don't see how OSU gets voted ahead of M. We beat them solidly on their home field and we had a better record. I don't get it.
January 15th, 2023 at 8:10 AM ^
There is a narrative out there that our victory over Ohio was a fluke. That Ohio controlled the game except for a few lucky plays that went for big yardage. They use the Georgia loss and our TCU loss as evidence. The haters are eagerly willing to buy into it.
I know different because I was there and saw the looks on the faces of the Ohio fans after the game and have a game program given to me by a man who was too embarrassed to possess it.
January 15th, 2023 at 10:59 AM ^
Not the point of your post but seeing where Tennessee lands after they beat both LSU AND Alabama is so funny. These people don’t watch the games!
January 15th, 2023 at 1:25 AM ^
I looked at this chart and had a seizure. Thanks.
January 15th, 2023 at 3:18 AM ^
Further evidence that this thing should not exist.
January 15th, 2023 at 7:24 AM ^
Damn, I wouldn't trust these guys to decide if they want fries with that.
January 15th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
Wow pat narduzzi is still a sparty bitch
January 15th, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
True. Narduzzi is a Sparty bitch. But I think this has more to do with him being just an overall idiot. Tucker is a Sparty bitch, but at least he seems to be smart enough to objectively rank.
January 15th, 2023 at 8:39 AM ^
Pat Fitzgerald continues to be a little bitch
January 15th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
Pat Narduzzi and Marcus Freeman - all kinds of dumb.
January 15th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
I’m surprised Saban didn’t vote Bama #1.
January 15th, 2023 at 10:20 AM ^
What significance is the green shading for certain squares?
