"Faustin moved to corner and is competing with: Turner, Gemon, and Perry for second starting cb spot"

The more talk we hear about trying various players at CB, the less confident I am about the position. I'm filing this firmly in the "not good" bin.

At this point it feels like either the coaches are trolling the fan base with a new statement about the secondary each week or.....they keep trying new things every week because it is that scary.

Uhh... Faustin was recruited as a CB and all the CBs he would beat out were top400 croots.

Maybe the fact the #1 CB opted out late in this crazy glitched year, means Zordich is scrambling to get the best players out there, and Faustin was already getting mentioned; so much so, he was replacing Dax Hill if Hill moved.

Pretty sure it is different.

If he opts out before signing day maybe they take a flier on another CB.

If it's before the combine maybe they work on a transfer.

Any other year they would have camped that sure would've been different.

Heck at least they could've told Faustin not to gain the extra 5lbs this off season and work on that hip turn.

Even if they took a late flier on a CB before signing day...its highly unlikely that player would be ready to play this year anyway. The grad transfer option might’ve been ideal, but they probably should’ve been looking at that even with Ambry coming back. This highlights the deficiency we have at the position. We were just an injury away from Ambry or Gray from being in the exact same spot

This is by far the weakest #1 CB we’ve had under Harbaugh. There is a possibility for a big leap, but based on what we’ve seen, Gray would be a weak #2 in the Harbaugh tenure.

2015: Lewis & Stribling/Clark

2016: Lewis & Stribling

2017: Long & Hill

2018: Long & Hill & Ambry

2019: Hill & Ambry

If the kid ends up playing incredibly well at CB this year, it may be that Harbaugh traded his soul for success. He may have made a Faustin Bargain...

Wasn't Hill also supposed to be competing at CB as well? If Faustin and Hill are both competing at CB out of necessity, then that is really not a good sign

I’m an apologist for Michigan’s defense and I’m convinced it mostly hasn’t been the problem in the Harbaugh era, so believe me when I say this: This is bad to hear

Spencer Rattler is the true freshman that hung 53 on Texas.  It can be done with first year QB's (look also at Trevor Lawrence), if the OC has the right game plan to put them in good position for success.  That has often been Michigan's problem in the last several years - poor play calling, poor game management, poor use of players talents, and zero tempo.  All of those things are important to high performing offenses.  And Gattis has demonstrated his ability to utilize all of those elements, he just hasn't done it all at the same time or consistently.  Lets hope he does this year...

Actually, safety and corner can be very different. Especially with the amount of man coverage we run (even if it is less that years past). Hell, zone alignments and post snap technique can vary greatly between the two positions. That’s said, you are absolutely correct that late camp position switches are typically not a good sign.

A late position switch that's alarming is Ben Mason to DT.

This is just getting the best players on the field.

Faustin was the #54 CORNERBACK recruit and he's probably a year away from SS weight.

If he's covering the opponents fastest receiver, they're in trouble, if he's covering the possession WR or split tight end it's all good.

Losing your No1 in a position right before camp usually causes some switches.

Positive take: Zordich is trying to get his best four/five guys on the field. Faustin is one of those guys.

Negative take: Faustin has been passed by Paige and Moten. He's been advised to give CB a try.

I lean slightly toward the positive here.

On-topic, here's Sammy working out in Naples earlier in the year:

That scenery is as South Florida as it gets.

These are 2nd and 3rd year guys. I think they will be good enough. Good enough for osu prolly not. Hopefully Hutchinson has a third year explosion and we can play even more zone.

Michigan's defense is going to be well above average-I will not be surprised if they end up being top 5. The questions about corner are legitimate but over-stated. I expect Hawkins and Hill at safety to mitigate any CB weaknesses. The recruiting is not as bad as what is being depicted. (Seldon and Dennis, while only feshman, can run with anyone.)  The key to pass coverage weighs heavily upon what happens up front with the QB pressure-here, I expect Michigan to be excellent.

There is as much reason for my glass to be half-full as there is for all the half-empty many are raising.
