EMU upsets Arizona State, notches the MAC's first ever win over a Pac-12 team
RB Samson Evans ran for 257 yards. EMU led the entire game. Oh, and they did this without their starting QB, who exited the game with a shoulder injury after the first quarter.

Washington State lost to CMU last year. FYI.

In a bowl game. This is the MAC’s first win over a PAC 12 team in the regular season.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:50 AM ^
Oh, and they also hilariously trolled Herm Edwards. EPIC.
September 18th, 2022 at 9:53 AM ^
good riddance to bad rubbish.
September 18th, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
Bye, loser.
September 18th, 2022 at 11:33 AM ^
What in the actual fuck is this?
September 18th, 2022 at 6:34 AM ^
Eastern beats western (school)!
September 18th, 2022 at 7:32 AM ^
Go Hurons!
September 18th, 2022 at 8:03 AM ^
One of the biggest loudmouths from my law school is an ASU fanatic. He’s a good guy, but I get a kick out of his meltdowns. This will be a good one!
September 18th, 2022 at 8:16 AM ^
Coach Creighton has a solid program going on over in Ypsi. Hopefully, they can content for a division title in the MAC. Go Eagles (Hurons)!
September 18th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
I've been saying for years that their mascot should be the emus.
September 18th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Damn right. This is the single largest missed opportunity in sports team naming that I can recall.
September 18th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Especially as they chose such a bland replacement (Eagles).
September 18th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Creighton deserves a shot on a bigger stage.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
Nice win. Herm isn't long for the desert anyway but this isn't going to help him.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:30 AM ^
I’m an ASU alumnus and I never liked the Herm hire. It’s proved to be a disaster and I can’t believe he’s still employed. Both he and our AD, Ray Anderson, deserve to be fired. The Covid rule breaking is embarrassing enough and a fireable offense and now he’s fielded a bad team in year 5. Time to clean house and reboot.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:39 AM ^
While I didn’t watch any of this game as it was on too late it caught my eye beforehand. EMU has been pesky and ASU looks like a team swirling down the drain. Who do you think ASU should/could get?
September 18th, 2022 at 8:49 AM ^
Dude - stay up late on Saturday nights and watch PAC12 After Dark - there are always great games! One thing the PAC12 did right (probably the only thing) is marketing PAC12 After Dark. They bring high scoring shootouts, upsets, nighttime college wildness, and excitement. It's well worth the late bedtime in most cases.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:54 PM ^
I make it til about 12:30am most Saturdays so I catch the first halves of some of those games but Eastern time zone living and small kids don’t allow for much more.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:44 AM ^
Gasp, you mean hiring a former agent to be an AD and then that former agent hiring his former NFL coach client wasn't a stroke of genius?!
ASU leadership are clowns.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:50 AM ^
But they redesigned the way college football is run!
September 18th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
The fact that Ray gave Herm’s staff their walking papers and retained Herm after the Covid rule breaking is borderline criminal. They’re just robbing the athletic department now.
September 18th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
Damn, has it really been over 4 years since Herm stated: "Devils? Ain't no Devils around here!". We'll always have his win over MSU (Sparty, NO!).
September 18th, 2022 at 8:43 AM ^
So who lasts longer - Herm or Brian Harsin? Those were both embarrassing losses...
September 18th, 2022 at 8:50 AM ^
Herm lasts longer. Harsin will soon be calling Bolivia home.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:54 AM ^
There have been a lot of embarrassing losses this year. It feels like the portal has increased parity. Either that or the Sun Belt is some kind of secret giant
September 18th, 2022 at 9:21 AM ^
I did a double take on -1320.
Wow, that's a big hole to climb out of. Do you have a viable 2-minute drill?
September 18th, 2022 at 9:54 AM ^
The sun belt is the best group of 5 conference. I see it becoming sort of a mini-SEC in the very near future
September 18th, 2022 at 10:10 AM ^
I thought that was the AAC, you know, the 6th P5 conference?
LOL!! That didn't last long. What was it, a couple of press conferences?
September 18th, 2022 at 9:06 AM ^
Harsin should be canned today. Auburn has totally quit on him.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:47 AM ^
I remember when some Arizona State fans (not all, but enough) were over the moon about the Edwards hire....yeah, I am sure those were fun times indeed, even if all inside their head.
September 18th, 2022 at 9:37 AM ^
From what I remember the hiring was pretty widely panned at the time and most anticipated Edwards to fail spectacularly. I think the bigger shock was that they managed to look like a competitive Pac-12 team in 2018 and 2019 in spite of the weirdness of their setup.
Looking at his tenure now, it kinda feels like every other ASU coach tenure the last 30 years - some early promise before eventual reversion to mediocrity.
You would think ASU could be a pretty good program given that they're the primary football program in what is quickly becoming one of the country's more populous states.
September 18th, 2022 at 11:00 AM ^
Phoenix is like the 5th largest city in the U.S. and ASU definitely have some good looking students. Maybe they don't want to come play for a loon?
September 18th, 2022 at 9:35 AM ^
I still can't believe no one has hired Chris Creighton away from Eastern. Do you people not realize how bad EMU usually is?? To have them floating around .500 or slightly better shows he knows what he's doing. No major program is coming calling for that, but I would've thought a decent G5 school would have by now
EMU has been to 6 bowls ever; Creighton has 4 of those. How is he still there?
September 18th, 2022 at 9:38 AM ^
I mean there seems to be a ton of people who expect Iowa State to be in the playoffs or else Matt Campbell is a crappy coach, or think that if only Kirk Ferentz replaced his OC they'd be a national powerhouse, so yeah I suspect a lot of people have zero feel for what is actually possible at programs.
September 18th, 2022 at 11:52 AM ^
Well, Iowa right now is a strange case. In the Brian Ferentz OC era, their won-loss records have been very good by program standards (9-4, 10-3, 6-2, 10-4, 2-1). Looking at that, you could understand why Kirk Ferentz might not want to mess with what seems like a winning formula. But almost none of that is due to his son, since Iowa's had one of the worst offenses in Power 5 each year. It's really unusual for such a one-dimensional team to win this much.
If they were merely average offensively, how much better would they be? Probably not quite playoff level but they might have grabbed a Big Ten title in that stretch.
September 18th, 2022 at 10:27 AM ^
Is it worth it to him to go to another G5 program? He has good job security at EMU.
September 18th, 2022 at 11:06 AM ^
Agree 100%. EMU was a black hole for a generation. Probably the worst program in FBS, not an exaggeration. Now they’re beating P5 programs and competing well with other good teams.
September 18th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
Hurons!
September 18th, 2022 at 10:31 AM ^
Imagine - a team from Michigan going out West to play a night game at a Pac !2 school - and winning!!!
September 18th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
Yah Imagine a team with Green and white colors to boot!
September 18th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Go Hurons!
September 18th, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
As a Michigan fan first (went there) and ASU fan second (daughter goes there), watching that game was a trainwreck. Daughter didn't go because her friends thought EMU was going to get rolled. I had to turn it off multiple times because it was unwatchable. Eastern was gaining 6-7 yards almost every play running the ball, even when ASU knew what was coming. Their lines dominated ASU's bigger and faster players, and their conditioning was much better. Creighton is a better coach who ASU should hire.
Between that and watching ASU run the ball last week vs OK State when it was clear they should pass, it's clear to everyone but Michael Crow (ASU Pres) and Ray Anderson (AD) that the Herm experiment is over.
But they both appear to be Hermaphrodites.
September 18th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
... and future member Notre Dame squeaked out it's victory over Cal.
September 18th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
While mighty Marshall, who went into South Bend and won last week, just lost to Bowling Green.
September 18th, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
Yeah go Eagles.
Also, I'll never forgive them for not choosing the EMU Emus instead of the Eagles. It was one of the options. They took the easy choice. Boooooo. Take the road less travelled.
September 18th, 2022 at 7:55 PM ^
EMU should be 3-0. Would love to see them compete for the MAC.

Herm Edward's got fired. Per espn
