If the NBA decides to change the eligibility rules, Bates is as good as gone. That being said, Juwan needs to recruit him just in case it doesn't. He's the best HS player in the country and he's in their backyard. The KD comparison seems to fit him because he's skilled at 6'8" (and still growing) which makes him a matchup nightmare at the 3/4 spot. He already averaged 30-10 as a freshman at Ypsi Lincoln and led the to a state title.

Regardless of whether he goes to Michigan or not, it's cool that Ypsi has a kid that could go #1 in the NBA draft.   Go Ypsi.   Hopefully he can squeeze in a year at Michigan before the pros.

I dunno... the offer thing is a little ridiculous. Everyone know's you're the best player in your class and you want offers to make you feel good? He's not going to play college ball. As soon as he does say he's playing college ball for sure, he'll have every offer he wants.

So, you're saying there's a chance.  Absolutely, Juwan Howard should recruit him in the oft chance he decides to play one year of college.  The payoff is so huge, Michigan should not ignore him.  Even for one year, a player like Bates can propel a team to another level.  For Michigan it could be the difference between winning a Big Ten title or not winning it.  Or, it could be the difference between a Sweet 16 finish and an NCAA finals appearance.  Howard has the easiest ability to recruit him too, due to close proximity.  I sure hope he issues an offer to him soon.

I thought I saw that Bates had previously said (or maybe it was his dad or someone close to him) that he’d be headed straight to the NBA if the NBA gets rid of 1-and-done.  I think colleges view him that way already which is why there is not as much interest in him from college coaches as his talent would dictate.
