U-M/MSU aren't going to quit playing.  So if you're concerned about the cancer spreading in the two fanbases, you need to find another option.

I recall Narduzzi's quote.  I also recall it (and Gholston's antics) was eleven years ago.  Both of them (plus Dantonio) have long left the Spartan program.  U-M had Saturday's game won well before their final drive, and they are also the better overall program right now.

As Tom Hagen once said to Michael "You (Michigan) have won.  You want to wipe everybody out?"  Michael, of course, responded "I don't feel I have to wipe everyone out, only my enemies."

Michael did decide to wipe folks out, including his (older) brother.  Not to get philosophical, but that was a response that simply spread the cancer further.

What's the difference between a losing team trying to score in the final two minutes and a winning team trying to score?  Isn't the losing team trying - possibly against the odds - to get back into a winning position? Football games are timed sporting events, with scoring possibly until clock hits 0.  Unless you think there should be a mercy rule - and that the Spartans would have accepted ending the game early - I don't see the problem in trying to score points.  For either team.

as a prosecutor i would absolutely NOT want the videos made public.   it can taint the prosecution process, the jury, and create all manner of complications.  our desire to see sparty get some legit and well-deserved justice (and shame) is not more important than prosecuting the suspects fairly.

Perhaps, but that's not the only priority. Since it's a public matter, the public should have the truth, so alternative narratives aren't given any more oxygen than they already have. People are talking about the video publicly, and there's already some video in the public domain, so what's the point of suppressing the best evidence? The marginal difference additional video would make in picking a fair and impartial jury for potential defendants seems minimal.

Imho, we should let the sun shine in.

there is a time and a place for everything under the sun.  if you want to absolutely destroy the ability of a prosecutor to do the right thing in difficult or emotionally charged cases, push the 'public has a right to know what's in his file' mantra and watch what happens.  the defendant has a right to know and to a fair trial and its guaranteed by the constitution of our state and nation.  the public has no such right, or at least, no constitutional right to know.  a statute later on about FOIA is trumped by the other considerations and even the FOIA statute has exemptions for on-going investigations.

I don't think he was intending to block the camera, but he is their Director of Football Operations. How do you not try to get your team under control at that point? It was cowardly and dereliction of his duty. I've seen some people insinuate that he was just avoiding getting hurt, but he is not some random stranger. He is in a position of authority on the team and should have personal relationships with his players. If I were Tucker, there is no way I could trust that guy on my staff moving forward.

What makes it worse is that TV caught him during the team entrance acting tough pushing camera people back from the tunnel when the team was coming out.

Why would you hope for that?  The helmet crashing video does clearly show Ben Mathers (MSU Dir of Football Ops) running from the attack.  But I've not seen any other coaches or staff do so.  And honestly, I would hope - expect, demand - that they would have enough integrity to stop an actual assault from happening.  I would expect/demand that a coach get between two jawing players and defuse it - regardless of what team that coach/staff works for.  I would expect that behavior from one of the adults in charge of the players.

I hope the B10 and law enforcement pounce  on them. I hope parents are smart enough to keep their kids away from these people. Entrusting a teenager to these folks has ramifications which should be discussed in homes of parents and their son/daughter athletes.

acts like this are the definition of "lack of institutional control"

the athletic department should compile all of the videos they have of dirty msu plays over the years, and submit it all to the ncaa with intention to get them a lack of institutional control and lose the football team. paired with their off field issues over the past 5-10 years, i dont see how it is not clear that they do not have control of their football team

it is dangerous for us to play them yearly. they almost broke denards next one year, and constantly take cheap shots that could leave to real injuries.. now this.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that there was more information available. MSU does not strike me as an institution that would move so quickly to apologize and punish players unless they have no other choice.

At first it seemed like the quick MSU suspension of the 4 players was an attempt to do the right thing.  By the sound of this accusation, it was more likely an attempt to deflect attention and hope that it would be accepted as adequate punishment.  They miscalculated, although credit to the PR department for adding the part about additional investigation, since they probably feared the worst was yet to come.

In addition to criminal charges, there could be quite a civil suit, since the actions were taken by players representing the university at a public event, witnessed by their Director of Football Ops, and zero was done to prevent or stop it.

FWIW I spent some time at RCMB last night wondering what their take on this whole situation would be and discovered the following:

1. Michigan started it by running the reverse pass late in the game

2. Michigan players escalated the hostilities by getting into the middle of the Spartans leaving the field.

3. A Michigan player started the whole brawl by swinging his helmet first at the Spartan players.  (I honestly had to read this one a few times to believe it - I guess they dont know there are cameras filming everything)

4. Harbaugh runs a dirty program and instructs his players to take cheap shots at other teams which is why stuff like this happens every game (another head-scratcher)

5. It's really not a big deal and Michigan is making way too much of this.  If our players were tougher (like the guys from State apparently) this wouldnt even make the news.

I mean I know there's tremendous tribalism when stuff like this happens but common guys.  THERE ARE CAMERAS AND EVERYONE CAN SEE WHAT HAPPENDED!!!!!!!!

Jim is known as a guy that will defend his team, he also is one that doesn't forget. If you think he tried to run up the score this year, wait till next year. Every recruit we go head to head with MSU on will be told about this, parents will be told about this. Jim so far is a guy true to his words, his press release was to the point and well said. If there was any video showing a Michigan player doing anything other then talking trash that player would have already been dealt with. Talking, waving jumping up and down don't give you the right to attack.

I will say this, for all the mass amount of people that seem to blame the tunnel or say they can wait, fuck that, that tunnel is used for both teams to reach the locker room, bathrooms, and training rooms.

Even with the verbal spat with PSU two weeks ago at halftime after that game there is video of PSU and Michigan players talking and walking together.

ND, OSU have walked that tunnel in defeat and victory side by side with Michigan players and there was never violence. I respect OSU and ND more than MSU. I hate MSU with a passion.

mGrowOld nailed it.... two of the last four threads were about the tunnel assault. (it was three of five before one was mercifully removed).

Let it rest........   First round is on me @ SHI on Saturday, if we can go 48 hours without a new thread mentioning the tunnel incident.

(I'm also betting there will be a new thread about it before quitting time today)

Man. These guys are bitter and angry. This just let that it out.

It's unhealthy. We've been owned by OSU for 20 years. I've never seen this kind of vitriol over sports.. When so many of the fans are friends and family. Yeesh

Via an ESPN reporter:

"I spoke to the father of Gemon Green, the Michigan football player hit with a helmet in the tunnel. He said the family is planning to press charges and take legal action on those involved. He said Gemon was struck with a helmet in the face, back and shoulder."

I've went to RCMB a couple times since this happened and they are delusional. They are bringing up the Devin Bush incident as proof that U of M instigates this stuff. The time their team A) missed their scheduled walk time B) failed to send someone to request our players move aside C) walked the field and got mad when our players were not intimidated.

D'antoni created a program motivated by pettiness, violence, and all-around small dick energy.

more publicly unseen camera angles show it’s bad

Yeah, that’s not what he said. The overhead cam from ABC is the only reference he made and that’s BEFORE the incident.
