In Earnest: Coaching candidates

Submitted by Justibro on November 7th, 2020 at 1:53 PM
As it appears the should be Harbaughs last year as head coach after the crap show we are presenting I'm interested in people's honest opinions for coaching candidates. For me the first 3 that come to mind are PJ Fleck, Tom Allen, and Bret Vennables (I probably slaughtered the spelling) Not a big fan of Fleck, so personally next. With Allen's young staff with Michigan ties I feel as though he would be the most welcomed and may be a legit pull. Idk if Vennables would leave clemson but could be a huge pull, especially for recruiting if them got him. So what say mgoblog in their infinite wisdom, who should we go after?

Michigan football is on the verge of becoming completely irrelevant which could cost the AD $100+ million per year. Money should be no question for the next coach. Make him the highest paid coach in the country, give him the budget to hire coordinators for $2+ million/yr each. Michigan can afford it, but they probably can’t afford not to...

Not gonna happen... Buckeye through and through. Besides, I thought all of the supposedly morally corrupt cheaters at Ohio State were beneath *ichigan, no? It's the definition of irony that the OSU guys you've all called everything but white men are now being begged by you to come rescue your shit show. Too funny.

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to hire a coach who will bring us the best recruits in the country. Given that high school football is huge in red states such as Ohio, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and Mississippi among others, I say we go out and hire the soon to be unemployed Donald J. Trump who should dominate red state recruiting.

Only downside is that we may be flagged a number of times for "intent to deceive."

How about a couple out of the box ideas...

Doug Marrone - college and pro experience.  Would probably bring Wheatley back with him to dominate recruiting in Michigan

Chris Partridge - not sure if he is ready, but always seemed like a head coach eventually.  Recruits well, and has connections all over to bring in a dynamic group of coaches

Arada - the DC from LSU.  Not sure if he’s head coach material, but worth a look.

Matt Campbell would be near the top of my list, if M could get him.  Especially if his OC comes with him.  Those two are a good offensive duo.

There's no shortage of options (if we act quick, tho I think we'll probably let his contract run out next year instead).

Mario Cristobal, Tom Allen, Luke Fickell, Chris Klieman, Joe Brady, Matt Campbell, Brent Venables, Paul Chryst (bit of a long shot, but hey might as well try)  or Chris Peterson would be my top candidates, though I'm sure there's more people you could find to consider.

Serious question.  What big name would want to leave a place they’re having success and come here knowing the “old guard” is still in place?

I get the money argument but Michigan football doesn’t have the prestige it used to and you have to like your job and feel supported by your administration ...

TOM ALLEN!  He's a very good coach, a great human being (not that Harbaugh isn't), and football would be fun again, both for the players and the fans.
