In Earnest: Coaching candidates
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
Fire Harbaugh and hire the HC of the one team he dominated? The HC from the one team that is clearly worse than us this year??
November 7th, 2020 at 2:31 PM ^
Keep Harbaugh, fire Brown, and hire Pruitt as DC after he gets canned at Tennessee.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:14 PM ^
Right? OP has 0 credibility by first mentioning PJ Fleck.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
I mean I did say no but let's not read the entire post. Fleck was the one coach it seemed like everyone was clammering over last year hence him being named first, and being a hard no personally as a candidate.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
Luke fickell. Make him
do it.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
Michigan football is on the verge of becoming completely irrelevant which could cost the AD $100+ million per year. Money should be no question for the next coach. Make him the highest paid coach in the country, give him the budget to hire coordinators for $2+ million/yr each. Michigan can afford it, but they probably can’t afford not to...
November 7th, 2020 at 2:58 PM ^
A half dozen+ of my buddies have stopped watching the games live. We all graduated in the mid-80's.
You're right, the pain will soon be felt at the bottom line.
Manuel has some important decisions to make.
November 7th, 2020 at 4:10 PM ^
It’s beautiful here in Oklahoma this time of year. The last few years I’ve just gone golfing over watching the games live. Best time to play and it’s mid 70’s and nobody on the course.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
The more I think about this the more I like it. He’d be motivated AF to beat OSU and wouldn’t give two shits about “Michigan Man” nonsense.
Exactly what this program needs.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:10 PM ^
Tell him that everytime he beats Ohio State, they'll further consider bringing him in to coach that school instead. That oughta do it
November 7th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
Not gonna happen... Buckeye through and through. Besides, I thought all of the supposedly morally corrupt cheaters at Ohio State were beneath *ichigan, no? It's the definition of irony that the OSU guys you've all called everything but white men are now being begged by you to come rescue your shit show. Too funny.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:17 PM ^
This is true but it’s getting negged because you’re an O$U fan. This comment will get negged because I am a Michigan fam agreeing with you.
November 7th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
Negged, but for use of "O$U" not because you agreed with someone else.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
Fickell is a white man. Circle complete. We've called him everything now.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
I want Mario Cristobal or Vennables but both seem unlikely
November 7th, 2020 at 2:18 PM ^
Joe Brady and Chris Petersen would be good too.
November 7th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
Chris Peterson should be high on the list
November 7th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
Peterson would be good, but Campbell would be better. Think he could do huge things at Michigan!
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
At this point I don’t give a fuck, as long as their ego/arrogance is in check and they have zero ties to the Bo era.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
Yes. No Michigan and no Bo ties is all I want in the next guy.
Tim Allen is fine, just no Sheridan or Hart with him.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
Is Tim Allen going to bring along Wilson as his deFENCEive coordinator?
November 7th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
The Tool Man! Not sure he knows a ton about football, but he'd be great at press conferences!
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
We should let the contract run its course. No one can blame UM for not extending Harbaugh contract and it is positive for hiring a new coach.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
Are you fucking serious with this nonsense? Hell, I know you are because you keep posting it.
YOU CANNOT LET THIS STAFF SIT ON A ONE YEAR CONTRACT UNLESS YOU WANT TO COMPLETELY TANK RECRUITING FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.
What is so difficult about that?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to hire a coach who will bring us the best recruits in the country. Given that high school football is huge in red states such as Ohio, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and Mississippi among others, I say we go out and hire the soon to be unemployed Donald J. Trump who should dominate red state recruiting.
Only downside is that we may be flagged a number of times for "intent to deceive."
November 7th, 2020 at 5:12 PM ^
Haven't seen it mentioned yet but this seems planned to me. Yes it's 2020, but that's no reason they couldn't have extended his contract. Not sure how it will officially look, maybe he "resigns", but my guess is Harbaugh is in the NFL next year.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
I'd also take a look at the HC over at Fresno State. Has them off to a great start, and he compiled a 67-3 record at the DII level
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalen_DeBoer
November 7th, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
He was also the man who revamped Indiana's offense last year so he'd definitely be an interesting option
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
1. Luke Fickell;
2. Josh Heupel;
3. Billy Napier; or
4. Mario Christobal.
if they all fail, take a shot at Chris Peterson or Bob Stoops.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:19 PM ^
I think I’d rather have Stoops or Petersen over everyone on your actual list
November 7th, 2020 at 10:42 PM ^
How about a couple out of the box ideas...
Doug Marrone - college and pro experience. Would probably bring Wheatley back with him to dominate recruiting in Michigan
Chris Partridge - not sure if he is ready, but always seemed like a head coach eventually. Recruits well, and has connections all over to bring in a dynamic group of coaches
Arada - the DC from LSU. Not sure if he’s head coach material, but worth a look.
Matt Campbell would be near the top of my list, if M could get him. Especially if his OC comes with him. Those two are a good offensive duo.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
There's no shortage of options (if we act quick, tho I think we'll probably let his contract run out next year instead).
Mario Cristobal, Tom Allen, Luke Fickell, Chris Klieman, Joe Brady, Matt Campbell, Brent Venables, Paul Chryst (bit of a long shot, but hey might as well try) or Chris Peterson would be my top candidates, though I'm sure there's more people you could find to consider.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
Brohm from Purdue or Stoops from Kentucky.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:04 PM ^
I would settle for Mack Brown...he wins, recruits and has that charm the big donors would love.
November 7th, 2020 at 7:12 PM ^
Isn't there somebody older we can get? Maybe Lou Holtz?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:05 PM ^
Serious question. What big name would want to leave a place they’re having success and come here knowing the “old guard” is still in place?
I get the money argument but Michigan football doesn’t have the prestige it used to and you have to like your job and feel supported by your administration ...
November 7th, 2020 at 2:09 PM ^
Money, Facilities, large fanbase & media attention. Michigan has all the makings of a big time program. Just need a leader to get them there
November 7th, 2020 at 2:34 PM ^
Doesn’t have the institutionalization infrastructure to do what it takes to win big though. Which means all of those positives will still add up to Michigan falling short
November 7th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
What do you mean?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:06 PM ^
Hugh Freeze? I’m told he has some Detroit connections. ?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:08 PM ^
TOM ALLEN! He's a very good coach, a great human being (not that Harbaugh isn't), and football would be fun again, both for the players and the fans.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:46 PM ^
He has done a lot at a previously dead program in Indiana.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:10 PM ^
It does not matter. The good old boy Network in Schembechler Hall will sabotage any and everybody.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
Will the next coach require over seas trips instead of practicing?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:36 PM ^
Instead? You know they don’t give up practices for those trips right? It’s an extracurricular thing
November 7th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
Top of my list is Joe Brady and Matt Campbell
November 7th, 2020 at 2:16 PM ^
I like Brady if he can recruit.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:37 PM ^
He’s never been anywhere more than 2 years
November 7th, 2020 at 2:24 PM ^
Stoops from Kentucky. Do it.
