Domani Jackson (USC CB) to the portal
December 18th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
His CB coach went to Georgia and most bama folks are convinced the coach was the only reason he didn’t end up in Tuscaloosa. I know there was smoke he liked Michigan but never bought it. We don’t get these types or transfers. We get more unknown guys with work ethic who end up playing well not former 5 stars. He’ll end up at Georgia with the coach or bama.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
38-3 over the last 3 years, with 3 Big Ten Championships and 3 playoff appearances with only 4 teams in the playoff.
And still BPONE hasn't released its grip on you...
December 18th, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
Oh I’m really happy with the team but aside from EyabieOkie who was a unique story/situation that ended up in a one year rental, we haven’t gotten any 5 star transfers. Our best transfers are low 3 star guys that developed and outgrew their pond. 5 star guys regardless have a different mentality/priorities in my opinion. As it stands with Jackson I think Michigan has like a 10 percent chance and is probably 4th behind the two mentioned and another west coast powerhouse like say Oregon.

Ty Isaac.
From USC, no less.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
It's not BPONE. I had and shared 1st hand info at the time. I repeated before and after The Game in 2021 that Domani wasn't picking Michigan and, again, that was 1st hand info. He chose USC with Bama as his 2nd choice. UM was a distant 3rd.
As for the transfer, I already sent a text and will reply with whatever info I get (so long as they don't ask me to keep it private). That said, this person also told me *before and during the season* that Domani would have chosen Michigan "if he could do it again".
I'd make a very educated guess that if Michigan shows interest it'll become a likely landing spot but he is also very close with Williams. If UGA also shows interest due to Williams, that connection alone probably still wins out. Just a guess. The question is whether UGA (Smart) cares what Williams thinks as a talent evaluator. He was brought in to recruit and that doesn't always come with the power to pick players. Kirby comes from Saban and Saban is notorious for being the final filter on who Bama does and doesn't go after. Also, Bama is Bama. Saban is also kinda sorta the best DB coach in the history of CFB. That would would be hard to say no to a second time.
Another personal take is that he still needs a lot of work as a player and is why a new start is a good idea on his end. He'd get that coaching at Michigan, UGA, Bama and a bunch of other places. That's not special or unique but anywhere he goes he should have the personal mentality and be treated by that program like he's a RS FR. Yes, he was at a major program for the past couple years but his development and supporting cast at that school was mediocre (if we're being kind). They were void of defense and their offensive style didn't help his development.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
I was replying to IMBlue2, but whatever...
Anywhoo, I don't discount what you wrote. No doubt the kid needs work - we all saw exactly what coaching USC's defense was getting. However, if his coaching was so bad, why would he follow Brown to UGA? I have to suspect that Brown, the CB coach, didn't do much to teach him how to play.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
I'm aware of who you replied to. I'm reply to that reply (at least in regard to Domani). If Bama and UGA show interest they'll be at least as likely as Michigan. I actually question what their interest would be due to their current depth and what you'd be getting (a talented guy that's still as raw as a freshman with 2 years left).
As for the other part, it's Williams he'd be following with UGA. Recruiting is about relationships and he would have a coach he loves there while technically being developed by Smart. Williams would be yelling and blowing the whistle with Smart's supervision and system, basically the Saban method.
As for Bama, you choose Bama for Saban and he almost did the first time. There isn't a guy with a better track record there than Saban. The question I'd have there if I'm Domani is whether Saban is there for two more years. Also, will I enjoy my time there while I learn?
With Michigan you get the best of both worlds, IMO. You get top notch DB coaching as well as a very good friend near you in a locker room that's second to none in the country as far as team cohesion and unity. Just my opinion.
But if all three want him I'm not sure I'd bet on one over any other. If the others dabble but UM goes all-in I'd bet on UM. Again, may have more info soon.

It's unfortunate that a lot of kids don't place value on having support and great team cohesion in the locker room. I bet they assume they can find that anywhere. To an extent, I agree, but there are some places where the team chemistry and unity are exemplary, and if you find a place like that, you shouldn't take that lightly. On a football team and in the workplace.

Saban lets the recruiting services do his scouting for him. A collection of 25 5 stars/ 4 stars and you have more than enough than the other teams playing with the leftovers that OSU, Bama, Georgia, and the SEC recruiting flavor of the week team dont want.
December 18th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
Not true at all and a comically bad take. This has been done before by elite coaches (late Urban Meyer at Florida) but Saban is notorious for not being one of those guys.
He's probably the most hands-on scouting HC in the country. If you show him tape of a guy you love and he doesn't agree, he isn't recruited regardless of his ranking. The buck stops with him entirely. He gets 5 and 4 star guys because they tend to be the best but he's fully aware of which ones he goes after. Ranking services get more from him than the other way around. Over the years he has declined to recruit many 4 and 5 star guys because he didn't like their game felt they were overrated.
Just an awful take on your end.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
I mean, Ty Isaac transferred to Michigan when Brady Hoke was the coach and the offensive line was a shambles, But sure, no way M gets a 5-star transfer from USC.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:53 PM ^
Yeah my bad kind of forgot Ty Isaac was a 5*. And Shea too, I suppose my mind was looking at who’s transferred here since the portal became a thing but I can take you point.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:14 PM ^
According to other posts here DJ has average numbers despite being an elite 5* 6’+ CB/athlete. His coach is to blame for him sucking, but his coach got poached by GA. Someone make this make sense.
I’m hoping he joins Will Johnson and Michigan’s D is the best ever.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
Williams is an A+ recruiter. He wasn't grabbed by UGA to teach defense, he was brought in because when you sit him across from a HS player he's awfully persuasive.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:16 PM ^
We may not get 5*s like Walter Nolen in the portal but Jackson has not lived up to that hype.
Why would he follow his coach who has failed to develop him?
Also, the Georgia and Bama CB depth charts are likely pretty full.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
A defense with Will and Domani as CB 1 and 2?! Go to work Clink!
December 18th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
Get this man at all cost! NOW!!!
December 18th, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
If he comes here, under Clink's tutelage, he could show his old team what CB development is supposed to look like.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
Apparently he hasn’t been very good in college thus far.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
Is there any USC defender that could claim to be good over the past two years?
Willing to bet most of the subpar play stems from coaching.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
Being coached by Alex Grinch will do that to ya.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
So if we get Jackson, do we thank the Grinch for our Christmas present?
December 18th, 2023 at 12:16 PM ^
But the stars.
December 18th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
I see you changed your picture. What is the significance?
December 18th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
New poster. Don't know what you're talking about.
December 18th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
I have family connections.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:34 AM ^
Vamos!
December 18th, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
Lets make this happen
December 18th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
I ran by him on the field at The Game in 2021 and he sure seemed like he was loving it....
December 18th, 2023 at 1:00 PM ^
Damn, if you ran by him then his speed can't be what we thought it was.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
Dequan Finn to Baylor. That's another one off the board for OSU, not that I had any sense they wanted him.
Rhule also seems to be missing out on everyone.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
No chance osu picked up the phone on Finn. A mediocre Big 12 or ACC school was as good as he was going to do.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:49 AM ^
Agreed. But he was still considered one of the top QB portal guys, and OSU does need someone on the roster, let alone a starter. How they haven't made Ward an offer he can't refuse yet, I don't know.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
They are rolling with Devin Brown. It isn't worth it to them to blow up their QB room over a guy who may not be a clear upgrade over what they have.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:25 PM ^
This is a fair point and confirms to me that the OSU QB room is in a Lose/Lose situation right now because of the insanely high expectations they have (ie: Running McCord off after going 11-1 and not being he reason they lost to Michigan for the third straight time.
1) Stick with Brown and he doesn't live up to expectations = OSU fans griping about how they should have tapped into the portal
2) Pick up a portal QB and he doesn't live up to expectations = "Why didn't the staff have the faith to roll with Brown?"
3) Rely on Air Noland?
All in all, it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine, now, forever, and always.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:40 PM ^
They also have a kid named Lincoln Kienholz they like.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
Sure, as it stands it's going to be a competition between Kienholz and Brown. Wouldn't hurt to add another scholarship QB with experience. Brown already basically lost out last year because of injury.
If McCord had stayed, he very well may have won the QB job.
December 18th, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
Someone does fairly well to the point that the starting spot is his until he leaves for the draft then what happens with Air?
December 18th, 2023 at 7:07 PM ^
this is what I’m reading. Day isn’t really pursuing anyone and those on the roster will compete for starter.
December 18th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
Dante Moore and Domani Jackson at Michigan next year with UCLA and USC joining the conference feels right.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
Is there anything out there that is positive with Dante Moore and Michigan? Everything that I come across seems to point to an eventual Oregon commitment.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
I have no idea, I thought it was between Oregon and Michigan.
I do wonder if it all depends on JJ's decision for Moore.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
It is rumored to be down to Michigan and Oregon but haven't heard much lately.
The JJ decision should not impact him too much as he is open to sitting and developing.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
Scuttlebutt is that while one of the dynamics that kept him away from Michigan originally (wanting to start right away) has changed the other dynamic has not (NIL).
December 18th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
SMH... Still chasing the bag. So much for sitting, learning and developing.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
I figured as much which seems to be the likelihood with these 5 star kids, I had said previously good for him to get whatever money he can but if that’s his only objective then Michigan probably isn’t the answer and as a fan I wouldn’t want to see the locker room get blown up over paper chasers.
December 18th, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
As a kid looking for the highest payday signing then transferring to the highest bidders could set you up for life. I cant get mad since there are millionaire admins making careers of their work.
I think when you see JJ, Don Edwards, Mikey, and all the other stories of Michigan players have it sounds like more fun and pays well. Im surprised 1 out of 10 5stars doesnt pick Michigan as you get paid well enough and its the most fun I see any football players having currently.
Winning, paid decently, amazing time, Top 5 NFL school
Recruiting should be so damn easy.
December 18th, 2023 at 12:49 PM ^
Who knows if Moore is even any good? He may be the next coming. And freshmen QBs usually stink. But his first season at UCLA was...messy.
