Does Warde Survive This?

The calls for him to be fired will be deafening now. His legacy is running Harbaugh out of town and hiring Juwan.

Warde easily survives this because Michigan just won the NC.  Why in god's green earth would UM fire Warde?

Michigan offered Harbaugh the largest contract in college football history, and Harbaugh would prefer to try and win a SB.  It's not Warde's fault.  What else could Warde have possibly done?

Now, dont get me wrong...I think Warde is a mediocre AD.  His hiring of Howard was clearly a mistake.  If Warde gives Sherrone the job without looking at Minter or outside the UM organization that would be an incredible mistake.  UM already proved it can afford any coach in the country.  It's Warde's responsibility to look for the absolute best coach in the country for UM football.  That means Sherrone doesnt deserve a coronation.  Sherrone should be at the top, or near the top of the list, but Warde must also look outside UM for the absolute best coach.  UM can afford him.  Go get him.

At the beginning of this season, everyone thought UM's O would be better than UM's D.  The opposite was the case.  Minter is a better coach than Sherrone.

Minter is a better coach than Sherrone.

I guarantee part of Harbaugh's deal with the Chargers is to offer Minter so much $$$ he's definitely going to leave with Harbaugh.  Take Minter off the table, as much as that hurts.

The BB team is in shambles, not just the season but as a program.

We just lost the greatest coach the FB team has ever seen.

We already lost the greatest coach the baseball team has ever had.

And Hockey s**t the bed under him.

If this is survivable just bring back Dave Brandon.  Because f this s**t.  The guy ruins athletic departments.

And I'm sure none of it is his fault.  Just a big coincidence that it's ALL happened under that fat b@#$cards watch.

I'm not someone who hates Warde and blames him for everything like others. I think he's fine honestly, and he seems like a good guy. You might have to fire him though. Basketball is dumpster fire and football, coming off it's been run in the modern era pretty much, just lost it's coach and will probably take a step back. Now it seems like Harbaugh was dead set on leaving, but a loss is a loss.

The OP is delusional. Warde is far from perfect, but he seems to have done every thing he possibly could have to keep Harbaugh. Also, no matter any other mistakes part of his legacy as AD will always be that he led the athletic department to a football National Championship

If Harbaugh wanted to coach at Michigan, he’d coach at Michigan.  Clearly he wanted to be back in the NFL and Michigan was his plan B.  There’s nothing Warde, Ono, or other administrators could’ve done to change that.

If you want to blame anyone other than Jim, blame the NCAA for their insane vendetta.

Unfortunately, the Jim/NCAA relationship was toxic, and that added serious liability to keeping him. It’s nuts that everyone around here wants to completely ignore that.

People forget Warde didn't hire Harbaugh and really had no loyalty to him. Also their relationship highlighted the divide within the UM football alums. Many back Warde when he cut Harbaugh's salary and wanted Harbaugh fired.

He won't be fired for this.  I am not a Warde fan, at all.  I'm not sure what he does on a day to day basis that is in any way positive for the athletic department, and he's made some terrible moves and had several highly questionable decisions.  However, Jim leaving is on Jim, not Warde.  Could Warde have done more?  Possibly-but I'm sure Santa was pushing him to do everything he could.  I'll need a shower after saying this...but this decision had little to do with Warde, and I don't blame him for it.

I agree this was inevitable. I think the next few days will tell the tale about Warde.  He needs to have a plan for this.

But, honest question, what has Warde done during his term here?  I don’t see any innovation or leadership. However, I could be overlooking something.

Wade is going to survive this but his survival is going to ultimately depend on how he handles the basketball team the next year. If he manages to hose that I would assume it curtains.

Stop... Warde kept him when no one wanted him. Jim wants to be in the NFL. Warde is far from a perfect AD but should not be in hot water over this. If he hires Moore, he will be fine.

Juwan will get one more year (probably) on a Harbaugh-esque prove it contract.

If this was the only thing, then, yes. Unfortunately, considering the state of the basketball program, the Mel Pearson debacle, the fact that Naruto seems to be flailing, the volleyball coach issues, the retirement of Hutch, the lackluster performance of the new softball coach, et. al. I think it's time to bid Warde a fond adieux.
