Do you want JH to get a lower salary next contract?

Submitted by MonkeyMan on October 13th, 2019 at 11:57 AM

I understand the reasoning behind those who want to keep JH and they have very good points. My question to them is:

Should he be offered a salary closer to his actual performance next round of talks?

Also, what do you think will actually happen? If things keep going like this, the next contract could be a very difficult process.

No.

I want this guy to get his next contract. Somethings wrong on the team. I don't know what it is. But it has to be fixed. And I just don't see the fire in Jim Harbaugh to fix it.

Sorry.

I love Jim Harbaugh. I still think he is Captain Comeback. But I don't like the job he is doing. Something is wrong.

And I've been a Michigan fan for almost 50 years.

Well something didn't seem right from the day he stepped off the plane when he accepted the job.  I was skeptical until they went into Kinnick and lost 14-13.  From that point I wasn't very sure about all the hype.

If our head coach was anyone else but Harbaugh, the success we’ve had would be celebrated. Everyone thought that Harbaugh couldn’t do any wrong, which set everyone up for disappointment. Think about it, Harbaugh took over from a guy who didn’t wear a headset. Unfortunately it takes twice as long to fix something than the time it took to mess it up in the first place. Our record against un ranked teams is immaculate compared to what it was under Rich Rod and Hoke. We’re doing just fine. There’s problems and issues, but we’re not a dumpster fire like some people think.

You have to take into consideration that the team was better in 2016. I'm not comparing Jim Harbaugh to Hoke and Rodriguez. I'm comparing him to him self. He is not the same man he was in 2016. I don't know what's wrong on the team. But something feels wrong. I liked the direction the team was going in 2016. I don't like what I've seen since then. I thought I'd see a change in direction this year. But I don't.

Maybe Captain Comeback will prove me wrong, and the team will go 11-1 this year.

I thankfully do not think Jim Harbaugh would be affected by job performance metrics.

And you need to be very careful if you ever install performance metrics that are linked to pay. There are many that will “game” whatever system you set up to maximize the pay, while being an overall detriment to the whole.

Who gives a damn.  It's not my money.  What I do care about is his offense looking like a dumpster fire

Well it would make the guy behind me in the stadium happy.  He seems personally offended as a tax payer of the state of Michigan.  (The fact that the program is self-funded by TV money doesn't seem to matter to him.)

I wonder how many of the these guys who are crabbing about Harbaugh's salary were yelling to "open the checkbook" when we were trying to get Harbaugh here?

What I do know is that constantly changing coaches is bad for a program, so right now we need to stay the course with Harbaugh (including paying him the agreed upon salary and not trying to "send a message" by trying to reduce his pay)-- hell, I'd argue we even need to stay the course with Gattis (provided Harbaugh is happy with him)

The athletic department has made more money with Harbaugh as the head football coach. Whether the naysayers like it or not, they make money hand over fist and until such point that Harbaugh causes them to make less money, he's not going to get a pay cut.

If you think there is a better option than Jim, feel free to let us know more about that coach.  If you think anything besides the market dictates Jim’s salary we would love to hear that explained. Finally, if all you ask is that we beat Ohio State, just be aware that all you are asking for is Michigan to beat a top 5 college team...
