Do you want JH to get a lower salary next contract?

Submitted by MonkeyMan on October 13th, 2019 at 11:57 AM

I understand the reasoning behind those who want to keep JH and they have very good points. My question to them is:

Should he be offered a salary closer to his actual performance next round of talks?

Also, what do you think will actually happen? If things keep going like this, the next contract could be a very difficult process.

No. What I would like to see is him hire a better passing game coordinator, cough Jedd Fisch cough, and a proper running back coach.

If Jay is good enough to coach at Michigan, surely he can get a job at another P5 school.

This is the first time we've had a fumbling problem under Harbaugh. I don't think there's anything he's doing to make them fumble just like I don't think Rich Rod was calling the fumble play often in 2008. Jay is also a solid recruiter. He's picked up guys like Corum (who looks very good), Charbonnet, Giles Jackson, Christian Turner, Muhammad, Haskins, Eubanks, McKeon, and Asiasi (who was good before he left).

Attitude is everything.

Jim Harbaugh got on Psych Meds and lost his competitive edge. Good for him and his family. Maybe he won't have a heart attack like Bo, God bless him.

Bad for the football team. There’s no leadership.

The end of the second half against Illinois was a sign of weakness. Shea plays scared because that's how he's coached. Technical skill is important, but leadership and confidence are key to victory.

Ever since we got cheated out of OSU 2016 by those stinking, dishonest refs, Harbaugh hasn't been the same. It was more than the spot. PI, holding, cheating calls everywhere. His sense of fair competition took a hard hit. Broke his spirit.

From professional experience: Jim Harbaugh could exercise, watch his nutrition, hike in the woods, etc. He’d calm down naturally...instead of being a confidence-sucking zombie.

I’d like to tell Harbaugh: I love University of Michigan like you do. We love you Coach. It’s not too late. Get your life in balance. Renew the confidence you had when you played for Bo and made that bold statement to win. You made a commitment and the team made it happen.

It’s not about revenge. Justice.

You know snarling wolverine there's an option you didn't mention.

Maybe I'm an experienced professional who's fed up with seeing people being conned by Big Pharma into thinking they need Psych Meds. Then they find out the hard way the side effects aren't worth it, and don't ever learn there are better alternatives.

Think that might be it?

He's a football coach at a big-boy football school. He will always be overpaid.  That being said, the market sets his rate, and name five coaches who have been more successful over the last 5 years who are currently coaching.

I don't know why fans are fixated on our coaches' salaries.  It came up a lot with Beilein, too.  (Every Maizen rant about Beilein seemed to mention his salary.)  Our athletic department is self-sufficient, so neither your tax dollars nor students' tuition is paying their salaries.

Either the guy is good enough to work here or he isn't.  The amount of money he makes while working here shouldn't matter.  There's no salary cap.

Totally agree. That is why we will not be renewing our tickets after 30 years. If we want to go to a game, we'll just buy the one game. Seating fees, frequent price increases and $6 pop just doesn't cut it any more. Our end zone tickets were $80 each face value for Rutger. Friends close to mid-field were $120 face. For Rutger...

My tax dollars aren't paying for his salary, but my cable bill is, and frankly my cable bill is too damn high.

Also, and this is a different argument, but it doesnt seem fair that coaches make $7 mil a year, and players get jack shit. This is going to change, and hopefully it will impact the crazy amount of money coaches are making. Hell if you cut his contract in half, you can give each scholarship athlete in the team 35k a year, in addition to their tuition.

You don't cut his salary, that's bush league shit. He shouldn't get a raise but you don't insult him with reduced salary, if that's the case they should just fire him or not re-sign him.  7m a year is not even crazy anymore, the top 7 salaries are all over 6m per year and this is still Michigan. Why would you want to go back to being cheap on coaches?

It's not like Harbaugh getting less money would lower ticket prices or let Michigan pay players, I would be all for it but that's not how this works. Michigan Football prints money, the 7m is really not a big deal. People are just too stupid to weed out the media talking points.

I agree with your points, but the notion that the athletic department prints money is incorrect. The money they "print", comes from fans, and eventually they'll have enough and attendance and interest will drop. As Mad Hatter said, taking a family of four costs well over $400, and that doesnt even include the hookers and blow.

All kidding aside, attendance is already dropping, and people are slashing their ridiculously expensive cable packages. Couple that with lower participation rates in youth football and im not hopeful for the future of college football.

I don't care how much he makes. I'm more upset that his job is to make Michigan an equal to osu, and he is failing miserably at that. I don't feel this program is any closer to beating osu now, than 5 years ago and that in itself is failure.

0-6 vs OSU and 0 big 10 titles=NO CONTRACT RENEW

we might not fire him but we sure as hell ain't giving him a new contract for failing to win.

This dude has Harbaughs dick so far down his throat he needs lozenges. The added narcissism is even funnier. Go kick rocks dumbass and take your blind fandom with you. Literally any legitimate criticism is marred by this idiot making some hilariously stupid comment.

I have no problem with legitimate criticism.  I have a problem with those on here demanding that a successful coach who bleeds Michigan blue be fired for winning 75% of his games and erasing the previous 7-9 years of horrible performance.  I also have a problem with people like you stating that Harbaugh must have CTE or is on meds because he he hasn’t won a big ten title after taking on a shit show of a program.  Sorry I am ruining your pity party, sparky.

Tell us Ryno, how much money is "bleeding blue" worth?

His results demand it? Winning only 75% of games on that salary - and literally never beating your biggest rival or getting to a B1G title game - is SHIT.

The list of coaches who could get you these results for half the price is long.

Good grief.  Some of you clearly weren't here for the final years of Carr.  Lots of people, including me, would say things like "anyone can win at Michigan" or "Michigan recruits itself."  Well, Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke disagree.  And while we're talking about how easy it is to win at university of [insert name here], let's consider the following: pre-Saban Alabama, post-Brown Texas, post-Carroll USC, post-Meyer Florida, current-Florida State.  All of these schools have better recruiting bases and lower academic requirements than Michigan.  Fact is...winning isn't easy at any salary.
