Did Saban process all the good coaches in the SEC?

Submitted by UMxWolverines on
A mere 6 years ago we had two SEC teams playing in the national title game because the conference was the best got damn conference in Murica. Since then all the other coaches to win SEC championships since he's been there in Les Miles, Mark Richt, Gene Chizik, Urban Meyer, and Phil Fulmer a few years before have been fired. Guz Malzhan seems to be safe for the moment. It seems to me that the SEC has some of the worst coaches in the country at the moment.

Just about? They could have fired him at the press conference and not 1 LSU fan would have complained except MAYBE his Mom. One of those programs that got what they deserved in a head coach after firing a very good one.

He has a $12M buyout. And they just paid about the same to fire Les Miles. The honeymoon is gonna last for a while still. LSU doesn’t have light $24M in a span of 12 months money.

Now the AD, Joe Alleva, that’s behind all the dumbassery he’s toast. They can fire him on the cheap.

is well, Alabama.  Georgia looks to be tough, with a good defense and some quality RBs (but who knows when you look at some of their opponents).  Auburn smoked Mississippi State, but only beat Mercer by like 14 a few weeks ago.  No one else looks good really.

Bama, assuming they beat Auburn, will then beat Georgia handily in the title game. But, the most SEC/Georgia thing will be if or when Florida beats them in an ugly 17-14 game and then wins the SEC East.

Now, I admit I don't watch every SEC game or anything, but what seems to really stand out is how mediocre the conference is offensively.

Why don't we have mobile QBs? Even Lewerke makes our guys look like statues. I hope Milton and McCaffrey are somewhat mobile. Mobile QBs are the only shot teams have at scoring vs Alabama. Mobile QBs give our geat D fits. Look what Manziel did to Bama. So they went and recruited running QBs.

can own college football.  I remember how Troy Smith seemed unstoppable, and Vince Young was dominant.  Then guys like Mariota or Russell Wilson, who could move and extend plays and let guys get open.

Now, it is rare for a good quarterback, who can really sling it, to be able to move around, avoid pressure/sacks, and run when needed.  But man does that mobility help.

Excluding Denard...my Michigan QB memories start with Scott Driesbach, then go thru Griese, Brady, Navarre, Henne, Speight...not a murderer's row of 40 times.

Of great 40 times among QBs in the NFL hall of fame.
I'll take a mobile QB only if:
1. It does not cost me one percentage point of arm talent
2. It does not cost me 1pt of poise & football IQ.

Otherwise give me the statue that can process like a computer & sling it like a marksman every time.
Heading in to play Bama w/Denard at QB had me legitimately afraid for his health. I don't like feeling my QB could be on a stretcher at any minute.

Denard was one of the most exciting football players in Michigan football history. But, and coaching/play calling has a lot to do with this, he wasn't a very good QB. His passing was inconsistent and while he scored a lot of points, it seemed like we were always rolling the dice on "broken" plays. I'll take Brady in the Orange Bowl versus Denard vs IL or Indiana. (Still love Denard despite the shade.)

He's a perfect interim coach, actually. Kids like him (though they don't know him well) and he knows how to go through the day to day business of being a head coach. Yet nobody would even remotely consider him a candidate for the permanent job, so you're not in an awkward position when you contact other guys. Ideal for this kind of situation.

I still think they probably have the most talent of any conference in the country. Even the lower tier SEC schools still recruit pretty damn well. Just has to make it that much more perplexing and frustrating for fans of these teams. Really illustrates the importance of coaching at the college level.
