Devin Gardner Announcing Rutgers-Nebraska

Submitted by NJblue2 on October 7th, 2022 at 7:14 PM

Devin Gardner is announcing the Rutgers game. I'm a big fan of his announcing so it's nice to catch him on a game I'm watching.

Rutgers is up early 7-0. The game is on FS1.

Which is funnier? Rutgers losing to Nebraska or Nebraska losing to Rutgers?  Both have potential.

On a similar note, what if Michigan State beat Ohio State? Would you be happy because Ohio State lost a game, or mad because MSU's disaster season suddenly includes an upset for the ages?

MSU's season is the Michigan game.  If they somehow beat OSU, that would 1) suggest that they're also talented enough to beat us and 2) give them a monster emotional lift, just three weeks before our game.  No thanks.  I'd rather see MSU continue to tank and people make fun of Tucker and his ridiculous contract.  Fortunately, that's what will happen.

We'll get our crack at the Bucknuts.

I agree. OSU's program will still be very good, even if they were too lose. MSU's program has a better chance of going into the crapper entirely as the beat-downs pile up.

However, if MSU were to win, there'd always be the wonderful consolation of OSU losing.  As long as I remain focused on whichever team is losing, I'm fine with it.

I always enjoy watching this match-up, because I know that one team that I hate will lose.

I just spent a week on the far east coast, (NJ, CT, RI) and was struck about the apparent lack of any interest in college football. No banners, no signs, no team shirts etc.

I'd be interested to see an analysis of how much the addition of Rutgers to the Big Ten has resulted in an increase in revenue for the conference.

Nebraska losing to Rutgers is funnier. It wouldn't be surprising, either, although it would be the first time Rutgers has actually beaten Nebraska.

I don't see Michigan State winning unless Ohio State's entire first team is trapped on the bus and doesn't make it into the stadium. The real drama is going to be whether or not Ohio State covers the spread.

I think they do, but I think there's a chance Ohio State doesn't take MSU as seriously this year and slops their way to something like a 45-24 win.

Personally, I like the energy he brings in this role. I haven’t noticed any bias, and he sounds like he’s done some homework. Still a bit raw, but the potential feels off the chart to me. Go DG, and Go Blue!!!

New Jersey at nite--everybody's got that sniff!

Anyway, this is now the Night Game/Friday Whatcha Drinkin' thread by default. I'm usually out Fridays but caught a cold, so it's a night at home and weed smoking for me.

Baseball playoffs are also a thing. The Mariners beat the Blue Jays while the Cardinals choked away a big lead in the ninth. Fuck the Cardinals. I'm interested in the Mets / Padres tilt because I would like my Met peeps to have good things for once this century. As long as it's not at the expense of the Yankees. I'll stick with the Rutger / Fightin' Interim Head Coaches clash until the point at which my eyes bleed.

Love Devin. His commentary is great, wish he could keep the energy without sounding like he's trying to yell something to a friend in a loud bar. When he gets his volume level adjusted to like a 7, he's fantastic.

Just put the game on for a few minutes. A couple of observations…

***This is brutal to watch. Two really bad teams.

***Gardner sounds really raw but it’s clear that he’s very knowledgeable. I’m guessing he’ll improve quickly!

Nebraska lost to a Sun Belt team. Michigan under Rich Rod could score in bunches. They were capable of 40+ easy on weak defenses and 20+ on the elites. Rich Rod's defenses were atrocious which held the team back. Michigan under Hoke beat OSU (I saw that at Michigan Stadium!) and played them close the next year when they had Meyer coaching. The offense under Hoke was...what it was and that held those teams back.

This Nebraska team is terrible at ALL phases of the game.

Devin was badly coached while at Michigan and didn't even get to have his own number.

Not quite good enough to stick with a NFL team.

Happy to see him make a little money from a sport he put so much heart into.
