[đź”’; deletion pending] Cade done for the season/transferring?

Submitted by MGoArchive on October 9th, 2022 at 11:09 AM

He is not on the sidelines. I believe he posted some stuff from his home on Instagram this past weekend. It's just kind of weird at this point, seeing as how...it would be great to have a backup quarterback on the roster.

I hope not.

But I would not judge him poorly if he did leave the team.  As a competitor myself, I know I would not deal with this situation very well.  It would be hard to not be a distraction.

He helped rescue the program and will always be a Wolverine.

It’s extremely rare for someone who’s unable to play to attend a road game, unless he wanted to sit in the stands.  The travel roster is much smaller than the home roster.

There’s no need to start a rumor based upon nothing but him being at home when he can’t be with the team.

The majority of people probably expected that, no? Seems like the days of carrying two reasonable QBs for even one season are all but over.

He's only played in 3 games. Even if he comes back healthy later this year, don't expect him to play more than one game (Rutgers or Nebraska). I think it would still count as a RS. Either way, he will be leading someone else next year, but will always be remembered for our best year since 1997.

Yes, travel squads are very limited. You'll see him on the sidelines vs. PSU and MSU.

It would be coaching malpractice to put Cade into Rutgers or Nebraska except at his request or if JJ gets injured.

There should be absolutely no doubt that if Cade is needed at OSU, he’s available.

* ETA: another poster pointed out that Cade already used a redshirt.  So this is less of an issue, but it should still be Cade’s call if he wants to try for a medical redshirt (which normally requires both redshirts to have been for medical reasons).

Cade lives in Reno can't expect him to join the team in street clothes [corrected].  He will later rejoin the team and battle Davis Warren for the backup role and main cheerleader on the side.  Noticed it usually Davis Warren that is first jumping off the sideline to congratulate players in the big moments.

I don’t typically downvote “dumb threads” because (a) I’m guilty of the same thing, and (b) sometimes they are fun.

This is not that.

I’m hoping he’ll be back. He’s a champion and “those who stay will be champions” again. We will need him.

Let's return to this topic next week.  Will we see the team captain not just on the sideline but working to keep up the team's spirit for the biggest game of the year or not.

Good God, man, did Cade McNamara run over your cat?

JJ won the competition. Shouldn’t you be off celebrating somewhere? Why do you have to slander a Michigan player? Just because he lost two games as a starter excepting the pandemic year? Were you really sitting around during the OSU game saying “Stop giving Hassan the football and throw more passes!”

You and UM_Ftown should start a podcast called Our Bad Takes on Cade McNamara. It would naturally be an ESPN-style shoutfest with you yelling your irrational anti-Cade nonsense while UM_Ftown forever rants and moans about how the awful Michigan fanbase so wronged and dishonored Cade because he got booed that one time. If you promise to take it off the board and stop posting this and do the podcast I promise we'll all listen every week. Promise...

Even if this post turns out to be partially or fully true, it won't make it any less repugnant. No links or specific sourcing. Mostly speculation. And using a player-voted-in-captain and the QB that brought us our first B1G Championship game victory and playoff appearance ever is a Scumbag Level 10 move.

It probably won't happen, but you deserve a one-way trip to Venezuela. Bolivia is too nice for you.

Most often, injured players do not travel with the team. Ronnie Bell may have been an exception during last year. It don't believe that Roman Wilson made the trip to Indiana either.

Now, if Cade isn't on the sideline at home against Penn State, then something's amiss. So, pump the brakes on this Cade speculation.

Beyond what everyone else has said about Cade being injured and it being normal for him not to travel:

There is literally 0 benefit sitting out the rest of the season. Players are now not allowed to enter the portal midseason, and Cade has already RS'd in his career so he doesn't save any eligibility by not playing. All of this is speculation from dumb fans who like to think they're smart.

Eh, probably.  But he’s clearly injured this year, and it’s possible he was “injured” in 2019 as well… at least, for the purposes of a medical redshirt application.  But I doubt Cade really wants to play three more seasons of college football anyway.  (He’s a sophomore by eligibility thanks to the COVID year).
