Dave Brandon Out At Toys 'R' Us - Back to Sports
It's hard to glean from this ARTICLE whether the move was voluntary or not, but Dave Brandon and Toys 'R' Us have severed ties so that Brandon can join the Washington Redskins as their new Senior Vice President - Marketing & Public Relations. Quotes? Quotes:
Joshua Bekenstein, Board of Directors, Toys 'R' Us: We appreciate all that Dave Brandon has done on behalf of Toys 'R' Us, coming in at a difficult time and righting the Toys 'R' Us ship. While we have had to work through employee and retail unit right-sizing, we believe that Dave's tireless efforts have increased the overall enterprise's value and we appreciate all he's done. While store closings and employee right-sizing will continue in his absence, Dave Brandon really jumpstarted that process, and the stakeholders appreciate his efforts.
Daniel M. Snyder, Owner, Washington Redskins Football Club: The entire Redskins organization is thrilled to welcome Dave Brandon into his new role directing the Redskins' marketing and community relations efforts. The Redskins play an outsize role in both the DC metropolitan community and across the nation, and we think that Dave is the perfect choice to solidify and maximize those relationships. Dave has a strong sports and PR background, and is the ideal man for the job. Dave helped to rebuild the University of Michigan sports programs, including hiring Jim Hackett, and has made each place he has worked a stronger, more familial environment.
Dave Brandon, SVP - Marketing & PR, Washington Redskins Football Club: I am thrilled to join the Redskins and assist Dan Snyder, Jay Gruden, and (Director of Football Operations) Paul Kelly in my new role. And I am especially excited to continue to cement the Redskins' nationwide brand, and find new and innovative ways to continue to honor Native American culture through the Redskins' brand. I also look forward to working with the club on public education of currently overstated CTE and concussion issues.
Albeit only because it's Dave Branding. I could totally believe him saying " I also look forward to working with the club on public education of currently overstated CTE and concussion issues." ...on account of him already doing so.
Plus, who here will be surprised in six months when this becomes reality?
For the Redskins. Would have been a perfect fit for DB.
And yes, I was completely HAD by the AF joke. Completely had. Well done.
Perfect landing place for him.
But I'm only surprised it took until today for him to pair up with Snyder. Only "better" fit for him would have been the 2014-15 Clippers.
Can we just turn this into an Everyone Murders posbang?
EM - please keep posting in this thread because I'm going to rec every single one of them.
Well done. The Redskins are so messed up that Brandon might actually be an improvement for them, but that's more of a negative about the redskins than a positive about brandon.

I heard he plans to change the name to the Foreskins, any truth?
Reads thread title, thinks wow this is shocking but is it? Tries to mouse-over link to Article. No link. Hmmm that's odd. Reads first quote. Oh yeah, today is April 1st.
Well done.
Sent this to my MSU-boss this morning, complete with a change in the hyperlink text to look like a real NCAAF story (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2016/04/01/marc-dantonio-resigns/82481116/ )

When I saw this I was pretty impressed -- Josh Bekenstein is indeed a member of TRU's board of directors (well, I presume -- I know he is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, who partly owns TRU).
He is indeed on the Board.
Toys R Us 2016 10-K Link is here imbedding not working for some reason-

"Right-sizing" LOL
Where is George Carlin when you need him.
Not a bad job. The overstated CTE problem was the icing on the cake.
Normally I hate april fools jokes, they're comedy for people who think cream pies to the face are too nuanced. This however, was well done

Because he is EXCELLENT at Public Relations! LOL
One more reason to hate the Redskins (team, not race).
Edit: I got got.
Are you concerned that Brandon will have the Redskins jerseys made by Adidas?
Guys,
And I am especially excited to continue to cement the Redskins' nationwide brand
should have been a dead giveaway
Happy April Fools

You had me going for a minute there.
The quotes were pretty believable up to the "currently overstated CTE" line, which was a bit over the top.

We moved from Ann Arbor to the DC area in 2010 and I've watched the poor Redskins fans suffer in a way that it takes a lifelong Detroit fan to truly appreciate. The depth of Dan Snyder's assholiness is truly profound, which makes Dave Brandon the absolute *perfect* hire.
It makes so much sense for the owner who spends much of his time defending his team's racist name to hire a guy like Brandon, who specializes in listening to the fanbase and building bridges with the community.
I cannot wait to see how badly this goes.
EDIT: Douche. Yes, I see the calendar.

This is one just writes itself.
if it was the Browns
Assuming this is not an April Fool's Joke.....No two human beings were ever born who deserved each other more than Dan Snyder and Dave Brandon.

Well done on the April Fool!!
Christ Almighty - I was falling for this hook, line and sinker. Would serve me right as a Michigan alumnus and Redskins fan...LOL
