Dave Brandon Out At Toys 'R' Us - Back to Sports
It's hard to glean from this ARTICLE whether the move was voluntary or not, but Dave Brandon and Toys 'R' Us have severed ties so that Brandon can join the Washington Redskins as their new Senior Vice President - Marketing & Public Relations. Quotes? Quotes:
Joshua Bekenstein, Board of Directors, Toys 'R' Us: We appreciate all that Dave Brandon has done on behalf of Toys 'R' Us, coming in at a difficult time and righting the Toys 'R' Us ship. While we have had to work through employee and retail unit right-sizing, we believe that Dave's tireless efforts have increased the overall enterprise's value and we appreciate all he's done. While store closings and employee right-sizing will continue in his absence, Dave Brandon really jumpstarted that process, and the stakeholders appreciate his efforts.
Daniel M. Snyder, Owner, Washington Redskins Football Club: The entire Redskins organization is thrilled to welcome Dave Brandon into his new role directing the Redskins' marketing and community relations efforts. The Redskins play an outsize role in both the DC metropolitan community and across the nation, and we think that Dave is the perfect choice to solidify and maximize those relationships. Dave has a strong sports and PR background, and is the ideal man for the job. Dave helped to rebuild the University of Michigan sports programs, including hiring Jim Hackett, and has made each place he has worked a stronger, more familial environment.
Dave Brandon, SVP - Marketing & PR, Washington Redskins Football Club: I am thrilled to join the Redskins and assist Dan Snyder, Jay Gruden, and (Director of Football Operations) Paul Kelly in my new role. And I am especially excited to continue to cement the Redskins' nationwide brand, and find new and innovative ways to continue to honor Native American culture through the Redskins' brand. I also look forward to working with the club on public education of currently overstated CTE and concussion issues.
For some reason I thought Schlissel hired Jim Hackett... mostly it was the fact that Brandon was already out when he was hired. Also Hackett just doesn't seem like the type of guy Brandon would've hired.
I think it was probably something along the lines of Brandon being forced out, but allowed to "resign" and allowed to "pick" his successor, even though neither were truly voluntary.
what are the odds that Brandon "picked" his successor, and then Schlissel was like "F*** no! I'm not hiring that guy, we're going with this Hackett guy instead".
Hackett just seems too grounded and qualified to be a Brandon hire.
I doubt it even got that far. I think Dave was told "you remember Jim Hackett, right? - we think it would be great if, before you resign, you selected him as an interim AD" and Brandon said "resign? - who said I was ..., ooooooohhhh, yes, I want to resign".
I think Brandon's real choice would have been someone just as loathsome as Dave Brandon himself.
Not bad for the first of what will probably total 100s of April Fool's Jokes by the end of the day.
Well Played Sir.
Poor, damn Washington Redskins.
Yep - though it's hard to feel bad for the likes of Dan Snyder.
This is true.

Fantastic April Fool's joke.
Well played, well played indeed.

Hahaha, good one.
Absolutely believable, until you get to the Brandon quotes - which are excellent by the way. And I'm sure he would consider that job a step down, maybe he would take the President of the Redskins job. Very well done!
got me on this one, sounded perfectly plausible.
It really is quite a marriage. Snyder is widely reviled, so he hires ... Brandon? It's really foolish of him, especially this day and age.
I'm not surprised the hire happened. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.
His tenure there won't be long either. Not only because he is a dick, but because the Redskins, with their team name must chew through PR guys. How long can anyone last?
Well, if by "dick" you mean a pompous asshole who is utterly tone deaf, then yeah. He's a dick.
Since reading Endzone, which I delayed because I knew it would piss me off, I get mad every time I hear that prick's name. Any organization that hires him, given the information out there, deserves whatever shitstorm he starts.
"Right-sizing"
How gross.
I hate that term - it seems like a very VC euphamism for firing people who are not at fault for a business's failure. But ... Brandon.
Or check any of the other comments.
It is quite a stretch to say that Brandon hired Hackett. But I suspect it's all part of Michigan letting Brandon save face by "resigning" on the way out.
It's unreal how he got this opportunity, after his track record elsewhere.
I love the way you are sticking with the april fool's by answering everyone's comments.

How is this real life? Daniel Snyder managed to hire one of the only people in this country who is more tone deaf than himself...
As an Eagles fan, I am laughing. The Eagles are in bad shape right now, but at least we don't have Brandon.
EDIT: Damn. Nice one.
i look forward to dave brandon getting into email pissing matches with native americans over the washington football club's loathsome team name.
The only problem is that Snyder seems to have the same sort of disdain for pissant "fans" that Brandon has. So Snyder will probably high five Brandon with each leaked "stop drinking and go to bed" email that leaks.

Won't be long until the noodle shows up by the moat of their new stadium.
