Darnay Holmes' ballz shifting to OSU

Submitted by llandson on

Multiple crystal ballz in the past day, including Wiltfong, have Darnay Holmes going to OSU.

It is sickening that the referees' impact on the outcome of The Game has repercussions long beyond just this season. I doubt OSU would have the momentum it does with all of these out-of-state 5-stars if it was UM in the CFP and OSU in the Orange Bowl.

This sucks, but the worst would be Tufele going there. It's one of the few true head-to-head battles we've had with them at a position of dire need. It would almost be better for them to get Marvin Wilson if it meant we had a better chance at Tufele.

I have zero belief that the winner of the UM/OSU game affected anyone's choices for signing. I also assume that at some point, some of these kids are going to look around and realize they are competing with 5* kids at every spot and they'll look elsewhere to get playing time. But Meyer is a great coach and puts guys in the NFL. And while I have no actual knowledge of bad actions to back this up, but given the madhouse Florida was under Meyer, OSU recently getting popped for issues under Tressel, and the fact history usually shows these superstar teams get busted for violations at some point (USC most recently), I wouldn't be surprised if this class caused some issues that give OSU problems in the future off the field.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I remember Damon Webb saying that he chose OSU so that he could compete for national championships. I promise you that's what many of these kids are thinking. Take OSU out of the CFP and OSU loses some of its luster. One of the few things holding some recruits back from choosing Michigan is this stigma hanging over our heads that we cannot beat OSU.

Furthermore, I think it's ridiculous to assume that OSU will encounter major violations, just because they are a top team.

Urban has been known to be the best recruiter in the game, period.  And the NFL Draft last Spring was the single best draft for any school in draft history.  They're selling NFL draft, Ezekial Elliot (They could land Cam Akers too), and playoffs 2 of 3 seasons.  That game helped them, but not that much, this was always going to be the best class he has ever brought in.

If he landed Homes, Okaduh, and Marvin Wilson they will have 9 Five stars in one class.  WTF?  That would be the record easily and this would probably on paper be considered the best class in NCAA history with 9 5 stars and 14 or 15 of the top 60 players over all.

Darnay Holmes and Ambry Thomas. Seems like Thomas commitment was concomitant with D Holmes considering OSU. I'd imagine these guys talk and know each other's plans, maybe via a third party ex. D Long or D Crawford. Seems like they were never intended to play together at Michigan.

Jeebus. I have no illusions that Michigan has a shot at landing Holmes after he decided not to attend the recruiting weekend, but I REALLY hope he doesn't end up in Columbus.

Having said that, I'm less concerned about missing out on defensive recruits, given that we have the best DC in the country who manages to field elite defenses irrespective of how many five-stars he has in the stable.

Holmes wake up and don;t be deceived. OSU could fall in shit and come out smelling like roses. When you have cheatin refs and money they can't do no wrong. Myers is the cheatin, lyingest and BS; er  ever known. He could sell swamp lamp in Nevada .Fan base is bunch loud mouth ass holes.

It's ok that there's speculation about Harbaugh in the NFL. He's the only coach in college to have proven himself at the pro and college levels. I'm always a little surprised that no one ever mentions Urban Meyer as a potential coach in the NFL. I'd like to see how he'd do there. He'll never get a shot though.

Urban has been offered NFL head coaching positions before (most recently probably the Browns), but he has given "veto power" to his wife Shelley, and she has said no every time. Apparently the only jobs that his wife can't veto are the Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame job.

-A sad Browns fan.

The parity of not being able to outpay your competition for players is rough. His offense would be crap in the NFL - might work for 1.5 years until it gets the QB killed.

Look, Meyer is a great college coach, with a capital G, but let's be real here. 90% of the time his teams simply out talent their opponents, as recruiting can get most college blue blood programs to 9-10 wins a year (ignore Hoke, Brady for arguments sake).  IMO, what Meyer did at Utah is more impressive than anything he has done since. UF was a juggernaut, but the foundation was there.  He inherited a goldmine (talent, fanbase, officials, weak B1G) when he went to OSU.

Harbaugh can win with his and can win with yours.  Meyer is a system coach and once Saban got Bama to the talent level of UF, he was eating his lunch.

Cardale Jones was not Meyer's QB choice the year they beat BAMA and was hitting darts 25 yards downfield, that Barret never had and since hasn't ever hit. They caught lightning in a bottle.  IF Meyer sticks with arm punting QBs, Brown will be shutting them down every year. Hell, even Narduzzi and Dantorelli shut them down with 3* talent.

Harbaugh's system works at every level.  On defense, I expect the two teams to be equally stellar - OSU with a bit more talent, UM with the tactical edge of Brown's genius.

On offense, I think OSU will be explosive as hell against inferior teams and struggle against teams with elite players. I think Harb-offense wins today, wins tomorrow and wins against anybody once you have the right O-line and settled QB.

For now, you have your bragging rights and a coach with 3 national titles and all I have is a bunch of opinion.  But nothing would please me more than Meyer believing that he can continue to beat UM running his offense with guys like Braxton Miller and Barret.

He's recruiting QBs that are throw first. That's what Barrett was supposed to be. That's what Haskins is, that's what Martell is. His best years were with Tebow and to date, his best qb product is Alex smith. Those are guys that can run, but the ground game is secondary to the pass. He knows he can't dominate with RBs playing QB for long

I definitely agree, but his some of his high school highlights show that he has some ability to scoot. Probably similar level of mobility as Cardale Jones, slow, big, but effective in short yardage situations. Haskins is definitely the purest pocket passer that Urban has recruited at Ohio State though.

It's probable that Michigan makes the playoff with one loss. I hate seeing OSU recruit like this, but I think it'll always be a close game annually while Harbaugh is around. The wins are coming. Either way, if Michigan can cut those Iowa-like letdowns, we likely make the playoff win or lose against Ohio State.
