Dantonio. This is something that is not worth bashing him over.

He said/did something shitty to his former teammates, and now he's letting them decide if he can co-exist and return. As someone said, forgiveness is powerful.

I have zero problem with this.

Forgiveness is powerful, but I'm not sure that's what this is about.  As already pointed out, it could just as easily be a way for Dantonio to get him back on the team without shouldering the blame.

What exactly does it mean to "let the team decide"?  Do they take a vote?  Does it have to be unanimous?  Will some players feel pressured to go with the majority despite their personal feelings?

I'm sorry, but it smells like bullshit to me.  The coach needs to take the responsibilty to lead on this.

A true leader would have done all of this behind closed doors.  No pressure.  Each guy gets a chance to speak for themselves, maybe even anonymously.  After the decision is made, he goes to the media and says "As an entire team we decided ____."

I also think the threshold has to be very low on how many guys need to disagree for him to remain off the team.  I don't know what that number is, but I'm sure whatever Dantonio's number is, it's much bigger than mine.

but it still made me think of Les Miles having his team vote on reinstating Jeremy Hill. That was straight up BS by Miles. Hill was the team's best player and he had been convicted for a bar fight not involving them. Miles was just looking for a way to play him immediately in a big game without taking all of the heat.

What's the same is that both coaches are using their players to do what they want. In Miles' case, it was holding a vote at all. It should never have been up to his teammates and he knew they would vote for no suspension.

In Dantonio's case, making it public puts all the pressure on the players to reinstate Reschke. If there's a split of opinion on the team, there's going to be a lot of finger pointing if they start losing. It just seems like the worst way to handle a difficult situation. He could have gotten a good idea for how the team feels and made his decision accordingly. Then he could take the heat if it backfired somehow. That's what a leader would do.

Right. If he gets voted on by, say, 51% of the team, that 49% is going to be rightly pissed, and will resent the coach for passing the buck on this. And no matter what happens, the players will have to answer questions about it. They'll have to take the blame placed on them by crazy fans one way or the other. This is an absolute abnegation of leadership, nothing else.

Someone in that shithole to grow a conscience overnight. So he dropped an N bomb, it’s not like he got a ride from jail straight to practice.... or raped a woman...... or went into the engineering building and beat up the tri lambs....

what I have seen he doesn't even have the body to play linebacker anymore. He would be a rotational pass rush guy I guess? Point is this is really not a story worth our attention from a football standpoint. If they want to let the guy have another chance to kill thier locker room and the NCAA grants him another year then so be it. He is not going to make them better so I really don't care.

regardless, he would still need to be granted a 6th year by the ncaa even if they accept him

Zero tolerance Dantoni is the king of second chances. And third chances. He’s let players back on the team who went to jail.

however, part of bad team chemistry is the teammate who schtups your girlfriend.  thats pretty hateful too, and took a lot more time, energy and forethought than a single word said (texted?) in anger.  people change, they grow, they mature and hopefully wisdom and self-control are more and more manifest in all of our lives.  i would assume the team has had constant contact with him during the year and actually might have a very good feel if the remorse is sincere.  my only suggestion would be to make sure its a secret vote given the hot topic.  and i would think that the vote better be pretty close to unanimous if he's allowed back on.

with rational or reasonable thought.  flip the situation and make reschke the guy that schtuped the black guy's girl.  if he texted the girl something about 'can't believe you hit it with a cracker' you know your outrage needle wouldn't move nearly as far.

also, if any of us were in the limelight and people could find out at least occasionally about your/our most personal actions, do you think there wouldn't be a laundry list of outrageous words, deeds, cussing, or otherwise regrettable events that because we're unimportant nobody cares about?

suggest you remove the plank out of your own eye before you worry about the sliver in your brother's eye.

I think you should take a break, man. You are all alone on that island. This type of black and white thinking (not referring to race here in any way, to be clear) is a huge problem in civil discourse today. There is room for nuance in life, not everything has to fall into a nice neat little box that can be labeled appropriately.

Passive aggressive BS. You can’t use black and white in this instance and then unsend your message. Sorry you’re on an island here. Also late to the party! Like I said tongue in cheek response! That was definitely NOT a tongue in cheek response. You should run for president! Not a compliment.

But then immediately says he’s not talking about race! So in this instance in the posting about Reschke he’s saying that people are narrow minded. Look how can anyone know what his mindset was when he said it? I’d like to know how one person in here can justify or agree with what the coach is implementing. I could care less. But don’t say people’s thinking are so black and white, and then state,”it’s not about race. In this instance then his belief is that it’s just an untimely slur. Ok.

and a particularly good troll-detective.  you, on the on the other hand, seem to be having some kind of a mental breakdown (not being mean here).  you might want to step away from the computer and call someone, anyone, a family member, a good friend, a counselor, pastor, whatever, and get some help.

There’s nothing else to be uttered. You’ve shown that you’re capable of self worth. What an epiphany. If I reposted some of the crap you’ve posted, there wouldn’t be an argument whether or not your sanity could be in question. Lol. Once again you could never insult me with,”your” intelligence.

i made no claims about my own intellect or lack thereof.  i am glad you are not insulted, as i am trying to avoid doing that - apparetnly successfully.

you have a strange way of conveying your ideas, kind of a faux-cryptic method, that really conveys little and seems to be repeatedly incorrect in its presuppositions.   you also appear to have no problem with age discrimination.

please be kind enough to share your age and race, and be honest about it.

I mean, sure. If the team is dying to have a guy who was kicked off said team (which if memory serves me right was due to a vote by the players) for some racist comments about a teammate hooking up with his girlfriend, then that's their prerogative. But I doubt you'd get unanimous acceptance, so there will be players on that team who will be forced to play with a guy who they vehemently think is a racist. Dantonio has never come across as the brightest guy in the world, but I would have pegged him as smarter than this.

Dantonio said Reschke's potential return would not be brought to a vote by the team but he would speak with members of the Spartans' Eagles leadership council.

Redlock?

Spartan Eagles leadership council?

Good thing the Spartans have all these BS quality control standards in place to appease Mark's conscience/ego, because otherwise I'd swear there were major problems surrounding the program like dozens of unreported sexual assaults that were also "handled" internally.

So it sounds like the current black kids on the roster have ZERO say in this matter as long as the "Spartan Eagle leadership council" says Yes.

You can't make this stuff up.  Only in EL.

Meh I’m okay with it. From what I understand the decision has to be unanimous. If only one person on the whole team doesn’t want him back, he’s SOL.

If you can convince that many people to want you back then so be it.
