Curious. Who is renewing their football season tickets?

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on April 22nd, 2021 at 3:02 PM

Title says it all.

I've had mine for over 10 years, and really had to think twice about renewing.  But I did end up renewing anyway today.

Per my handle, I do live in Chicago, but still traditionally come in for most home games.  But whatever, I'll see how it goes this season and go from there.

What say you MgoCommunity?

I already did.  Didn't give it much thought. The games are fun when they are winning and when they aren't; I also enjoy the social aspect of the games, so it's still a win.

Got them for the first year last year but obviously didn't end up having an in-person season. Renewing again because I end up making it out to 3-4 games a year anyways. While the team's mediocre performance can be frustrating, I still look back fondly at the tailgates and times spent with friends. It's good way to get college friends who are now dispersed across the country all back together for a few weekends.

With pent-up demand after 2 full calendar years since the last time people could attend a game, you can probably command face for even the non-marquee games that you might not attend.

I renewed. Even when the team isn't very good I still look forward to the tailgates and all other aspects of a gameday in Ann Arbor. Hated sitting at home this year.

I like all the comments about tailgates. My crew hasn't tailgated as much the last couple seasons (with fans) thanks to a mix of crappy weather and noon kickoffs.

The games are fun to watch, regardless.  The atmosphere is excellent.

Even during the bad games.  Lol

I was there a few years ago vs MSU (in the O'korn game).  The rain was RIDICULOUS.  I was wearing a poncho and still got soaked.  I've never been in any kind of rain storm quite like that one.  I watched turnover after turnover.  Still had a chance to win, but a dropped wide open pass ended a crap game.  Then....on the way back to my hotel.....my $15 Uber ride turned into "peak pricing" $350.  My wife and I decided to walk to the closest restaurant.  Walked through a ton of unfinished roads and construction....with a chorus of "Go green Go White" every few minutes.  Hung out until around 1-1:30 am, and the Uber was down to $100.

With all of that....I still had a great time.  Just being in the stadium, and rooting for my favorite team.  That's the fun part about being a fan.  Never let those tickets go, man.  You'll regret it if you do.  ?

We had tickets for 4 years, backed off with young kiddos. Wife bought season tickets last year for our anniversary. I've stated it before, call me a bandwagon fan, that's fine but I'm not renewing tickets. As much as I love attending live games (there's nothing like it), I just can't get myself to dedicate entire days to watch a football game that brings more frustration than joy. Yes, perspective and all, I get it and it's true. I just don't see the value in spending that kind of money on tickets, parking, insanely priced concessions to watch a football team stuck in 1985. I may go to a game here and there but not season tickets. still, Go Blue!

Renewed today.....each year I get closer and closer to the deadline though as I question whether I want to renew or not.  Home schedule isn't too bad this year but next 2 years opponents are virtual snoozefest aside from our 2 main rivals.

With heartfelt sorrow, I'm done. Had my 2 seats since 1980 (never missed a home game). Can't justify the expense anymore. Last football year I had to sell my one ticket (could not get anyone to go with me). Walked all around the stadium trying to sell it for anything and finally gave it away. Probably still go to a game or 2, but will now purchase a ticket off the street.

I've had my tickets in Section 17 since 2008. I do the Ticket Packs for a few years prior to that. I renewed right away. No real question.

While it's fantastic when they win, there's a connection to games and years gone by that can't be replicated on TV.  Those rain/snow games, the huge comebacks, the unexpected blowout wins (ND/MSU in 2019).

Granted, I now live in Southern Kentucky, so I'll probably only go to 3, maybe 4, games this year. But I usually break even after selling to friends/family at face or giving away to people.

I am in 17 as well. Have been for 16 years now. Love the easy out of the stadium and across the street to beat some of the traffic out of town. I renewed on Day 1 when they were available. It is getting harder to want to drive 3 hours each way anymore. Maybe I need to start staying the night after the game especially the night games which are becoming more frequent.

Not reposting because I think you should've checked back a month. Just reminded me of the discussion.

Also, spill a swig for XM.

We've all renewed, there was no question about doing so since part of the total cost was rolled over from last season anyway.  Can't wait to tailgate with my group again in the fall (to whatever extent tailgating is allowed, even if we have to adjust to a different venue, time, etc, WE SHALL FIND A WAY.)

But the future is up in the air, probably more so 5+ years down the road than in the next few years. Most of my core group has been attending games together since the late 70's to late 80's (and tailgated together for 25 years); there's been marriages and divorces,  kids and grandkids, lives lived and parents lost in the last 35-45 years we've shared.

Suddenly we're all retired or soon will be. Our original 4 "M-geteers" is now down to 2 " M-geezers" but over the years we've gone from 4 to 6 to 8 seats on our order;  "Dave" and his family who have sat in front of us since  '87 or '88 has gone from 2 then to 4 and now 8 of his own seats; his son (also a Michigan grad) now has his own 2 seats nearby in the same section for himself and his new bride.

We all tailgate together and aren't ready to give that up, even though we're all scattered geographically as far away at metro Atlanta.  In some ways the games are almost an afterthought or at least an excuse to get together.

I renewed as early as possible. I received a blanket email, from the ticket department, at 12:01 pm. But I had already renewed at 12:00 pm. I have never had the thought of giving up my seats even cross my mind. I have had my seats in Section 18 since 1984. This happened to be JH’s redshirt sophomore season, as our QB. All he did was beat defending National Champion, Miami Florida, in his first game. During his time as a player, he was 6-0 against Ohio State, MSU, and ND. He beat Nebraska in a bowl game. He lost to ASU in the Rose Bowl. That was a blessing, because they were coached by John Cooper, who was hired by OSU, as a result. The only big game he ever lost was at Iowa in 1985, on a last second field goal, similar to 2016 as our coach. Unlike some fans, I am not at all disappointed in his coaching. His teams are competitive and entertaining. I miss a home game only if there is a death in the family. My own. I also rarely miss a road game. He has given me more road victories than the previous two coaches combined. Lloyd Carr built his career by beating John Cooper. The OSU problem dates back 20 years. JH is our best chance to turn the tables on them, or at least get on equal footing. We are a stud QB away from doing it. JJ might be that guy. Go Blue!

Our family has had season tickets for 48 or 49 years now.. don't think it is changing anytime soon

I did.

If I went through the RR and Hoke years I can do anything. Also, I go to games with my mom, dad, brother and nephew. It's a fun day to hang out with them

I feel like I’ve answered this at least once a month for the last year...

yes, it is a family thing for me, I don’t care how good or bad the team is, I don’t let 18-22 year olds dictate my mood.

No. Not because of poor team performance, etc. etc. lately but with kids/grandkids, it’s gotten more and more difficult to get as many tickets as we need in the same section, at least close to the same row. We’ve gone with purchasing group tickets. Previously you had to buy a minimum of 10 and if you were “first in line” (on the phone the second sales began), it was still possible to get some pretty good seats.

For the times my wife and I go alone, we’ve found tickets readily available on place like MgoBlog spreadsheet and Craigslist.

It will be interesting to see what happens this fall. I’m hopeful but not optimistic about being able to buy that many group tickets for any given game.

I personally know of two friends who are not renewing. Pricing is one reason and being skeptical about the program is another. They were long time season ticket holders. This is a very small sample but I am hearing more negative feedback than positive.

I appreciate the larger number of renewals mentioned above and the positive reasons to keep attending games.
