the conclusion of Nevada-Purdue

Submitted by Cruzcontrol75 on August 31st, 2019 at 1:30 AM

What a grab by the Nevada WR at the Purdue 20 with just over 1:00 to go.  Had to come to a dead stop on his route, essentially fall backward and snag it before falling out of bounds.

The very next play they take a shot at the back right corner of the end zone.  The Nevada WR looks to have it with1 foot down.  Purdue’s Corner simultaneously clamps on and rolls over the WR and ends up with the ball as they fall to the back corner.  Could go 3 ways and after instant replay they rule it incomplete.  On 2nd down they take the same shot and Nevada’s WR only gets his right hand on the ball, looking for a PI or Def Holding call.

3rd and 10 from the 20 they hit the slot receiver to the left hash right at the goal line for a TD.  Flag for unsportsmanlike conduct on the TD by Nevada and the XP is pushed back.  Apparently the Receiver thought he was Cam Newton and did the Superman after scoring.  PAT was good anyways.

Tied at 31 Purdue takes the KO to the 29 with :45 left.   Sindelar is picked off at midfield!   :38 left, flag down.

Refs need to seriously let the players celebrate a little bit in those situations, they weren't taunting Purdue players. There college kids not robots. Glad to see those penalties didn't cost them as they deserved to win with the plays they made late.

Some shit just doesn’t make sense. Last season Purdue lost to Eastern, got schooled by Staee’s back-up QB, but some how kicked the shit out of OSU. I just.....I need to drink more.

The couple unsportsmanlike penalties called at the end of that game were a complete joke.  Maybe could've cost Nevada the game but they overcame them.  I suppose when you come back from 17 down only to tie it with less than a minute left you are supposed to bow and apologize to the other team.  Nothing they did was egregious.  Utter f'ing stupidity.

Miami (YTM) got flagged for a similar celebration after picking off a pass late in the 4th last weekend against UF. There was nothing inappropriate, just a guy celebrating the huge play he made for his team.

at the time it seemed like a “protect the top ten SEC team at all costs” flag, but maybe they are cracking down on celebrations and shooting for the No Fun League 2.0

Come on Purdue...  Look what you did.  We let you stay up late with the adults on a Friday night and, of course, you have an accident.  You go back to West Lafeyette and think about what you did.

I read that the kicker was a walk on, and after the game they gave him the game ball and a scholarship.

Also. Of the Big Ten teams who have played so far, Wisconsin is the only one that looks any good.

went to bed, but wow, what a game and ending.  first, here is the kick

second, if you see the locker room scene afterwards it'll give you goosebumps.  it is what is right about college sports and college football specifically.

third, that kick was more like 57 yards, and it was good from 60+ judging from the video.  great kick by any measure.

So Purdue is a shitty team that will be unrankned at midseason.

...can we rearrange the schedule to force OSU to play them on the road at that point?

Would’ve loved to see a shot of their roid raging DC when that kick went thru.   He was probably busy punching a mascot or something.  I still think he put a bounty on Speight.

Five turnovers by Purdue. If they lost turnover margin by only two instead of five they probably win by two scores, maybe more. I still suspect they as dangerous as any other team in the West division. Exciting finish but kind of sucks for the Big Ten's reputation.

Here's a question: the Nevada holder took off his helmet while the ball was in the air. Not sure if it matters if it crossed the cross bar, but shouldn't that have been unsportsmanlike conduct?

Not rooting for that (retroactively), mind you, just wondering. Wouldn't that kind of penalty invalidate the kick in the same way that a hold or any other offensive penalty would have?
