Compared with the past, how loud is the Big House this year?
October 13th, 2015 at 1:22 PM ^
More people in the stands plus a dominating defense to cheer for equals louder stadium.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:37 PM ^
Plus, just having Jim as our coach makes people happier and more excited to cheer loudly.

Is this prom?
WTF?
If this is the "random hate week pic" is it possible we are being homophobic?
I mean, it comes off as a bit homophobic . . . but is that us or because this picture is so homophillic???
October 13th, 2015 at 1:35 PM ^
Nope, I aint afraid of them*
*joke I got from a gay friend a long time ago :)

I think we can aspire to greater things than the lowest-common-denominator of a homophobic joke.

Being serious here: how do you explain this picture???

Oh, yes. Spartans Will.

I can say that Saturday was the loudest I have heard the stadium outside of maybe 2011 Ohio State, 2012 MSU, and the 2011 and 2013 Notre Dame night games, and it certainly rivaled all of the above.
(I only started going to games in 2008)
Nearly everyone in the crowd was on their feet yelling every 3rd down for Northwestern, even the late game 3rd downs when we were up 28+-0.
I have never heard the spontaneous "DE-FENSE" chant in my 7 years of going to Michigan games, especially not up 38-0.
Ya think people are excited?
October 13th, 2015 at 2:13 PM ^
the DEEEE-FENCE cheer. We've had our season tickets since the early 2000's and I don't remember hearing it before. I don't really remember it in the old days either. Maybe now is a good time to start it up.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:07 PM ^
I remember doing it for 2008 Wisconsin, but that might have just been my local area in the stadium.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
It's louder than a kangaroo in heat. So pretty loud.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:47 PM ^
We know how Koalas handle being in heat. Not too familiar with kangaroos though.

I would say that you better hope you don't have any loose fillings. They might get knocked out by the loudness.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:50 PM ^
MeanJoe, please don't try to hold our fillings in. We'll be just fine without your help.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:03 PM ^
What's going on in this picture. Does that many have koala hands?
October 13th, 2015 at 1:29 PM ^
It was: Ahhhhhhh.YAAAaaaa. OhhhHHHhhh. WeeeeEE
Now it's like. WHOOOOAAAA RAAAHHHHRRRRRR WOOOOOO (Blitz!!) YARRRRRRR!
October 13th, 2015 at 1:30 PM ^
Sorry for the hijack OP. To answer your question, the stadium can be WAY louder than before the renovations but I don't believe that was really put to the test until the end of the NW game. The place rumbled.
I suspect the MSU game is going to set off some seismographs.

Have to admit, I had a simmilar reactions as Brian: it got a little dusty during the DEE_FENSE chant. Was really special.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:00 PM ^
It got a little dusty in my basement watching the game...must be my allergies.
Can't wait for Saturday - flying in Thursday. Will be my first game since PSU last year, so I will be ready to shed a few more dusty/allergy tears of joy!

On a scale of Loud, Louder, and Loudest, the NW opening kickoff runback was...Loudester! All other signficant moments this year: Loudest.
What I think is even more important, Michigan has had a lot of those moments this year.

Say what you want about the Seahawks, but the game experience is nuts. You can't hold a conversation, screaming with the person next to you. Such a fun atmosphere!

Nebraska 2011 was very loud in a couple of instances. At the beginning of the game, the stadium eletronics were partially down, so the play clock was out at one end of the stadium. The students, and then a lot of the rest of the Big House, started the play clock countdown from ten while the electronics at that particular end of the stadium were being restored. Then, at the end of that 45-17 pounding, the students and then again the rest of the Big House started chanting "Beat Ohio". I watched the NW game on tv, but the DE-FENSE chants at the end of the game certainly were just as loud if not louder than those 2011 Nebraska chants.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:00 PM ^
"BEAT O-HI-O"
That chant, at the end of the Nebraska '11 game, was like a victory cigar.
The following game was louder from beginning to end. I'd argue there was more volume than UTL '11 because we didn't really get started until the 4th quarter.

Here's hoping to a similar result.

It's been pretty similar besides the Northwestern game. That was loud. The MSU game should be on par with the UTL games.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
Unfortunately nothing will provide the home field advantage that Hoke's clapping gave.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
I've never seen anything like the Northwestern game. The stadium was all up and engaged and cheering in a way I hadn't seen before. Even the big games against MSU and ND and OSU were not like last weekend. I didn't attend many of the major games until I became a student in 05 so there might be some that compare, but I doubt any after the renovations. That plus HARBAUGH FEVER made for a truly incredible experience. I expect that this coming game will be even more rowdy. And with a W...well I can only imagine what the last game of the season would be like
October 13th, 2015 at 2:56 PM ^
but 97 Ohio State will forever be on a different level in my opinion.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:58 PM ^
2011 notre dame and osu were the loudest ive ever heard at the big house. Been going to games since the late 90s.
This year definitely has that 2011 feel in terms of volume. Very loud for NW. I expect the crowd saturday to be insane. CANNOT WAIT
Edit: also, the DEFENSE chant was the coolest thing ever. It was the best solute to the defense for three straight shutouts. I defintely think the defense chant will be heard vs sparty and could become a rallying cry for the rest of the year.

The loudest I've ever heard it was the Harbaugh to Kolesar TD pass against Ohio State in 1985.
The last play of the "Kickoff Classic" in 1995, the walk-off TD to beat Virginia, was alos very loud.
