Sources told me that Michigan assistant Chris Partridge was offered a linebacker coaching position at Alabama, but Partridge decided against taking the job and is turning down the offer. A source said more offers might be on the table for Partridge,... https://t.co/4dsaB7tD4w

As well he should.  The goal is to move up, right?  Of course, situation and circumstance have to play in.  I mean, DC at EMU is probably not a good career move, but DC at Wazzou is.

But I have to say, I'm not sure he has the necessary experience to walk into some P5, or even high end G5, school and be the DC.  Could he do it?  Probably, but I think it's stretching his experience level a bit.  I'd like to see him get a couple more years under his belt, probably at positions other than LB, so he can get a more rounded resume.

Assuming, of course, that extra experienced is gathered in Ann Arbor...

Brandon Justice stating it's down to UM and a west coast school as a DC but likely UM.

Still no new UM deal on record.

In theory Wazzu could be one.  Rumors also are that Jed Fisch might be a candidate for the Arizona job.  I believe Jed & Partridge are close, so if Jed did land the AZ job, I could see CP being somebody he potentially calls to be his DC.

But I mean, bird in the hand right?  Does CP sign w/ Michigan over a few theoretical DC slots that might remain?  I don't know the timeline on all of this.  Michigan obviously wants to retain Partridge, so maybe they're willing to just give him the offer & let him "think about it" for another few weeks.

But if CP drags his feet to see how the NFL & remaining NCAA coaching musical chairs shakes out, there's a risk that Partridge bolts last minute & then Michigan has slimmer pickings for their 10th assistant coaching slot.  So hopefully M has the "what if Partridge leaves us" contingency already lined up.

That's probably my biggest frustration with this staff lately RE: recruiting--seemingly not having solid contingency plans lined up for WHEN things inevitably don't go our way on occasion.  Hopefully they aren't making the same errors when it comes to coaching staff issues.

Come on man you sound like you think Harbaugh is new at this staff building thing...OF COURSE he has contigency plans who wouldn't. And yes, I'm sure they've had recruiting contingenies too but sometimes even those don't come your way..and sometimes they do along with the '3 starz' crew.

If he leaves. But I would be upset if it was for bama. If he is looking for a DC job somewhere and is waiting for an offer that’s good enough, by all means he should take it. Let him build some group of five team up and rise up the rankings to become a HC. I would love to see him as the head coach at some power five team someday. All I ask is to please do not go to some School we all hate in a lateral move, would be a bummer.

You guys realize he turned down the Bama offer because he has a DC offer right?  MIchigan LB job will get him a raise over what he would get at Bama.  But he's debating whether to come back as LB coach or move on to a D coordinator role.

Harbaugh should try to get Jerry Montgomery back. He was just hired by Jimbo at A&M but I'm sure Michgan could steal him back by next season. He's a great recruiter and defensive coach, I know Mattison already coaches the D Line but Montgomery could be his replacement down the road.

Wait wait wait wait wait...

I was told by everyone at OSU and MSU that the only reason why Patridge was hired was to get guys like Peppers and Gary.

He has no coaching chops, he's just a recruiting hire because Harbaugh breaks the rules and is sleezy like that.

O... no? That was all BS? Ok, move along.

I’m certainly a fan. We know he’s a great recruiter - is he even qualified for a DC gig at this stage? His career is certainly on the upswing, but learning under Brown for another year or two seems like a great idea.... prob just not realistic.

I don’t have enough points to +1 you for real so there you go. Yes he’s going to go from H.S. Coach to Linebackers Coach to NFL DC. Some of you homers really smoke the maize and blue wacky tobaccy. It is definitely great news if he stays and gets better under Don Brown. If y’all are paying attention all these new coaches we are hiring are good recruiters and all have director of recruiting backgrounds from previous schools. IMO I think coach is addressing a weakness on his staff.

I'd be more comfortable if the tweet also said "more offers might be on the table...and he plans on turning those down as well, wants to stay at Michigan"

Honestly surprised by this news. This is great, hope Partridge stays and takes over when Don Brown retires. Need loyalty on this staff and Chris seems to be really loyal to Jim, this school, and his players.
