Chris Partridge statement
November 27th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
I think it was the California Penal League
November 27th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
You understand that just because he said this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s accurate ?
November 27th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Did you parse the statement? He said relatively little and only things which can be easily verified (or not easily disproven). I have no doubt the statement is accurate, but likely also incomplete.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
Sam on a Pod the other day said something to the effect of: a player was talking about Stalions interaction and Chris said "hey, don't say that."
November 27th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
I mean seems pretty reasonable statement and good to put out there considering all the rumors about his firing. I thought it was known he was fired because he tried to perhaps 'coach' or 'speak with' players regarding their interviews with the NCAA investigators. This is a no-no and I'm sure Warde came down hard to show cooperation with NCAA to limit damages down the road. As far as was known when he was fired, he didn't know anything about Stalions scouting and destroying evidence was just a message board rumor.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Interesting. I am not sure how football coaches are *not* to discuss the ongoing investigation, within the program.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
It is pretty simple, and I give the same directive to my clients during an investigation. Just don't talk about the facts of the case or the investigation itself. They can literally talk about anything else.
It is unfortunate that Partridge got tripped up by this, but it is a simple and clear direction that is always given in cases like this, and I totally get why the administration felt it had not choice here, given the atmospherics.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
Exactly, meanwhile the NCAA can have a threesome with ESPN and B1G, while interrogating 18 year olds about what their superiors have been doing, while these kids have no representation!
November 27th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Lalalalalala I’m not listening….
November 27th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
We'll most likely never know what he said to the players, but you have to wonder if a suspension would not have been a better outcome.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
I would imagine all those lawyers they have on retainer are advising on this matter, and they'd rather err on the conservative side. Shows good faith cooperation with the NCAA.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
If the choice is immediately firing Partridge when this was found out or a LOIC and show cause on Harbaugh due to the “blame falls on the head coach” rule for obstructing an NCAA investigation (something the ncaa is going to be attentive to given their belief about Harbaugh’s actions in Cheeseburger-gate), it’s really not a hard call.
If all the info checks out about coaches being in the dark about Wyld Stallions, it would be really short sighted to get hit with a violation for obstructing the investigation.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
Exactly. You don’t make a high profile firing unless the lawyers vet it.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
While it sucks to see him go, given the events that were swirling around the program at the time, firing him to avoid the Big Ten trying to find another way to hammer us was probably the safest move to preserve the team's ability to compete. Hopefully, he lands somewhere soon, even if it's back here after this all blows over. It seems like he probably just made a stupid mistake.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
sigh.
this entire episode is never. going. to end.
i'm sorry to see him go, and i understand why he's doing it, but MAN i wish we could stop with the drip-drip-drip. i thought we were somewhat past the firestorm of idiot media speculation, and now we're going to get another round of yammering from the pete thamel types.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:36 PM ^
Hopefully UM can clarify the reasons for why Coach Partridge was let go and that way provide him some support as he figures out the next step.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
I doubt the University would do that and frankly, I think it's probably for the best. What good does it do to air dirty laundry?
November 27th, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
I'm saying they can affirm Coach's statement here and clarify that that indeed was the reason for his termination. UM can echo that to their knowledge Coach did not destroy evidence or have any involvement with whatever CS was doing.
November 27th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
His statement said, “as stated in my termination letter”. This should suffice as a michigan statement for future employment opportunities.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:37 PM ^
Obviously there are two sides to every story but I wish we stop trying to placate the Big Ten and NCAA. It worked out for us in the end but suspending Partridge and going through with the TRO would have been better. This just gives the impression that Michigan is admitting fault like the Burgergate thing. I wouldn't go out of my way to piss off the NCAA but trying to win over Charlie Baker is the most Michigan thing ever and probably isn't the right course of action when they are just a pack of hungry dogs fighting over a piece of meat that will keep coming back for more.
November 27th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
Bending over and admitting fault is what Michigan always does. This is nothing new.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
Chris always seemed like a good dude. I hope he gets picked up by a decent program. He's come a long way from NJ.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Hmmm. Difficult situation to say the least. Sounds like collateral damage. Hope he lands on his feet and am appreciative of his contributions to the success of Team 144. Go Blue!
November 27th, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Love the guy. But the simplest explanation is likely the correct one. He'll end up back in the sec or at liberty
November 27th, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
He could've taken an entirely different approach to this. Outside of Michigan stuff, NCAA stuff, Big Ten stuff, and so on -- Partridge seems like a standup friend/coworker for Harbaugh and his players.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:49 PM ^
Remember that one time a few weeks ago when Warde issued a tough guy statement to the Big Ten in defense of the football team?
Yeah, those were the good old days
November 27th, 2023 at 6:29 PM ^
I think his fat ass did that knowing what he was fixing to do. He wanted to make it look like he was on Team Harbaugh and he’s not.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:55 PM ^
This is another professional who very likely LOVES Michigan Football.
He put the kids first by remaining silent prior to the osu game.
Certainly, he must be heartbroken to not be with the team but rejoice in their victories even without him. The University is the one institution which will eat its own for the sanctity of the future.
Go Blue.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:56 PM ^
Sounds good, I guess. Maybe he shouldn't have told players what to say? This is the same thing that got MSU coach Curtis Blackwell fired a few years ago.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Hire him back after the silly NCAA investigation is completed, then bail to the ACC (or be independent … would totally subscribe to the Wolverine Network)
November 27th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Next year Raven's coach?
November 27th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
This only further suggests to me that Michigan was in no way preparing for an all-out war, and that all the talk suggesting that were indeed dung. Michigan was trying to restore some level of trust w/ the B1G and NCAA, and Partridge - unfortunately and for the most part unintentionally - just stepped in dung at the wrong time.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
This stings. Several years ago Partridge went out of his way to introduce my kid to perhaps a dozen players as we waited near the team bus. Even introduced us to his mom. He's a good guy in my book.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:04 PM ^
Chris Partridge, American Hero.
Honestly, this statement alone makes me love the guy.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
Excellent, you don't release public statements like this if you knew. Lends more evidence that the shitbags in Columbus and ESPN were just making shit up to get clicks.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:14 PM ^
Those who potentially tamper with witnesses will get fired.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
Anyone else thinking Wardes days are numbered?
November 27th, 2023 at 6:27 PM ^
I don’t. I think he’s exactly what the powers to be in the University want. He’s a spineless putz and that works perfect for them. I’m sure him and Pettiti are buddies too.
November 27th, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
I believe what Chris Partridge stated
November 27th, 2023 at 6:25 PM ^
Partridge did what any coach and mentor would do, he tried to best take care of his players. The way the Bigten was coming after Harbaugh vindictively, Partridge was right to steer the players and warn them. Once again, our worthless AD bends over and takes it and then cans someone just to placate Pettiti. It is quite obvious that Warde does not want Jim here and he’s done everything he possibly can to not help him along the way. Sad when the new President had to bridge the gap last year. Partridge fell on the sword for the University much like Harbaugh has been doing. Hopefully we at least get a national championship out of this mess.
November 27th, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
Michigan should have him get a job at IMG and funnel players to Michigan. Pay him a million a year to do so!
November 27th, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
Stand up guy. Not surprised.
Clearly this is not a burn it down deal like Blackwell. Partridge sounds like he cares about the kids the team and the program.
Much of everything else is speculation.
November 27th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
Seriously, when can we move on from Warde? Reading between the lines, obviously the Big Ten wanted a head to add to Harbaugh's suspension when they dropped this mini-firecracker on us in the run up to the hearing before the Maryland game. We gave them Partridge and now we lost a top notch recruiter and pretty good coach forever.
Any fool can sit silently and do nothing. What does Warde actually do here, when the program is under constant attack? His most public statement in the past two years was that he's skipping one CoFoPo committee meeting to handle things at the AD. No one cares about that. His value to us was to be the severed head that cooled all of this down, and he wouldn't even do that.
November 27th, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
Warde does what's good for Warde
November 27th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
Classy statement and timing. We’re gunna miss that guy
November 27th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
Where the fuck is Compliance in all of this?
They should be immediately telling everybody very clearly what they can and cannot do during an investigation, and what the consequences are. And that there will be consequences, so don't even think about doing it.
None of this "I'm a mentor for these kids, I've got to show my support and coach them what to say." No. Don't even think about it. Do not be stupid.
November 27th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
Michigan football is awesome. University of Michigan administration, however, has too many bungling idiots. Thanks for your time at Michigan, Coach Partridge. You deserve to be proud as hell of what you helped build.
November 28th, 2023 at 1:58 AM ^
Can tell how seriously Michigan takes the Big Ten West champs by how everyone who "doesn't want to be a distraction" waits until after the OSU game but not the actual BTCG to make their big announcements: Cade last year and Partridge this year.
