Cade out with a leg injury for a few weeks
Just can't catch a break. Hope he makes a speedy recovery, we'll need him more likely than not.
Jim Harbaugh's full quote on Cade McNamara's injury:
— Alejandro Zúñiga (@ByAZuniga) September 17, 2022
“Cade: Unfortunately, his foot was caught in the ground, got hit from the side the side in the leg. Probably going to be out for a few weeks. Not going to be a season ending thing, I don't think, but he'll miss some time.”
September 17th, 2022 at 4:24 PM ^
Just isn’t Cade’s year. Hopefully he comes back healthy and hungry.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:40 PM ^
He deserves better luck than this.
I’m not sure that if in a close game the next few weeks Bowman wouldn’t be the first in to replace an injured McCarthy, just given Bowman’s experience and relative success at TTU.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
Hoping for the best but considering the injury it might have been better to get Warren some more reps in the second half since he will be the backup for at least 2 weeks.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
Could be a blessing in disguise as he's not likely to enter the portal this season now
September 17th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
He's just as likely to enter the portal, or not enter the portal, now as he would've been without an injury. In other words, a minor injury isn't gonna impact his decision to transfer or stay.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
An injury is never a blessing in disguise you idiot ! He was never transferring in season smfh …
September 18th, 2022 at 8:28 AM ^
I mean there is Chinese proverb about a farmer's son breaking his leg which allows him to avoid getting drafted into the military, so it is indeed possible for an injury to be a blessing in disguise, but I agree this is not one of those situations.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
New NCAA rules now limit transfer portal entries and Cade wouldn't be able to enter the portal until after the Playoff is announced. LINK
"The NCAA Division I board of directors on Aug. 31 voted to approve 60 days throughout the calendar year during which student-athletes can enter the transfer portal, a change that went into effect for the 2022-23 season. Football players will be allowed to enter the portal for 45 days beginning the day after the College Football Playoff field is announced, and also from May 1 to May 15"
September 18th, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
Huh? I could easily argue that he's more likely to hit the portal now. Just looking for a fresh start after a tumultuous year.
I could argue that if he was healthy, playing, engaged, and having fun that he'd be more likely to stay.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
Damn. Hope he makes speedy recovery and be back after BYE.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
I find it a bit odd for Harbaugh to give so much detail on Cades injury.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
If he wasn't specific straight away there would be constant questions about the real reason why he wasn't playing/dressed the next few weeks.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:03 PM ^
But the point is to not disclose any details so opponents are left guessing. That’s been Harbaugh’s MO on injuries. I thought it might have been a concussion, his head did bounce off the ground on the pass. I just find it odd.
September 17th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
Everyone was going to prepare for JJ, not Cade. We were not going to keep opponents guessing.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:31 PM ^
Sure didn’t look like a leg injury, looked like he got his bell rung. I was even thinking it might’ve been an arm/shoulder injury.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
You could see him limping off the field after that last pass.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
Both legs were rolled up on - the left leg looked worse at first but he was grabbing his right leg after spiking the ball and was limping. After watching it a couple of time it looks like the right leg was in a bad position when the UConn guy landed on him.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
The o-line giving this level of protection against teams such Hawaii and UConn is ridiculous.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
What does the poor guy have to do? He already treats them to steak dinners and golf clubs.
September 17th, 2022 at 7:14 PM ^
September 17th, 2022 at 5:38 PM ^
I mean, sometimes even bad teams get a sack. Jones has been bad, but last years “best in country” OL gave up some sacks too.
September 17th, 2022 at 7:09 PM ^
There’s “giving up a sack” and then there is “complete whiff giving up a no-chance thunder sack against an abjectly awful team missing their best DL player after doing the same last week against another awful team”. OL needs to take a good hard look in the mirror, because they’ve let their captain down repeatedly.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
The offensive line really did their best to ruin Cade’s season. They owe him.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
You guys really have to chill. The line is weak. There isn't some sort of agenda against the guy they voted as captain. He just doesn't have the tools to survive this lines shortcomings like the other qbs on the roster.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:56 PM ^
The line is not weak. Certainly shouldn’t be giving up this type of pressure to the likes of Hawaii and UConn. This is just inexcusably sloppy and lazy play by the line. They really deserve to be called out for how they played for Cade. Not acceptable.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
My point is that the line did not get worse for cade. UConn got serious pressure against JJ too. It just wasn't nearly as glaring because he was able to mitigate it. Best example was his pass to Ronnie in the endzone. JJ stepped up all day and moved around.
A huge and vocal part of this board loves cade. I get it. But, I keep seeing this stuff about harbaugh not calling great plays for cade and now the line not blocking for cade. Those are problematic for a few reasons. People saying those things are divorcing cade from the team and they are implying that there is an agenda against cade.
None of the other quarterbacks have had the same issues this year, not because there's an agenda against cade, but because they can move around in the pocket and get rid of it. We've seen it with JJ obviously. We've seen orgi keep them honest as a run threat. We've seen Davis as a dual. Bowman moved around on his td pass.
What cade was a part of last year was last year. His shortcomings along with the line's shortcomings are getting him killed. The other qb's have the tools to hedge the line's shortcomings.
September 18th, 2022 at 8:54 AM ^
Great point. With 6...7? different qbs playing the problem seemed to only affect one of them. I mean on his very first snap he went down after jj hadn't had significant, impactful pressure all day. The Willie Beamon narrative doesn't really fly because, like you said, he was voted captain and also the golf clubs and steak. I think his limitations have been exposed and teams are teeing off on him.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:06 PM ^
Wasn't the O-line considered one of the teams strengths coming into the season? Looking at the "The Enemy Ranked 2022: Offensive Line" our OL was expected to be the best OL in the Big Ten. It is concerning how much pressure 3 of the worst 12 FBS teams were able to put on Michigan's offense and get to the QB. That said, conference schedule is about to begin. We will soon see what exactly we have.
September 18th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
They were able to get to Cade
September 17th, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
Injuries are always an unfortunate event unless the other team is Wisconsin. Blaming OL or anyone is just ridiculous.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
I thought it was just coincidence that they played like that when Cade was in during Hawaii but today again, seems off.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
Medshirt him so he gets a 7th year!
September 17th, 2022 at 6:17 PM ^
Which he would use somewhere else.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:43 PM ^
McNamara's injury is completely on the o-line. They have hung him out to dry in all three games. Piss poor to not defend their teammate.
September 17th, 2022 at 6:43 PM ^
You make it sound intentional. Your post is poorer piss and pisser poor.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
This is why you have 2 really good quarterbacks on the roster.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
Our pass protection needs some serious work. They have been smoked several times against really bad teams. Trente Jones looks like he is stuck in concrete at times. I know JJ is more mobile and that’ll help but he can’t be taking hits like Cade has been or we will be counting on the third string qb
September 17th, 2022 at 4:46 PM ^
It was nice to give the Big House a chance to redeem itself with cheering him, but an unlucky sequence of 2 plays there at the end of the 1st half. Football gods there saying we shoulda just sat on it and let Cade start Q3.
But the QB controversy, or what was left of it, just went poof.
September 17th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
Sad to see. It's been a hard couple weeks for Cade.
Was disappointed for him to get hit on two different plays after finally entering the game.
Was surprised that Davis Warren didn't play more, being that (1) he's probably next year's backup, and more urgently (2) would immediately become the backup if Cade was out for future weeks (and apparently he is).
September 17th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
Getting a standing ovation from the Big House faithful, only to be sacked from his blind side on the first play and then sacked again to cause injury to his leg should be his sign to get his transfer papers ready.
Kid just can't catch a break at all.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
I think he was only sacked once. The second time he was hit was on a completed pass, no?
September 17th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
Yeah, not a sack, still a huge hit given up by sloppy OL play though.
September 17th, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
My bad. You are correct!
September 17th, 2022 at 4:52 PM ^
Poor damn Cade McNamara. This season has been an abject nightmare for him, and he deserves better. His first play in today, after a standing O, is an easy sack. He was absolutely destroyed on his long completion (which wasn't a bad throw, actually). The OL, to which he's been quite gift-ly, hasn't done a damn thing to help him out.
If he were upset at his teammates, I wouldn't blame him one bit. But everything we hear says he's not, because he's a great teammate and an awesome leader. I hope he gets his career back on the trajectory it had ending last season.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
The OL absolutely receive blame for Cade's injury. Over the course of 3 cupcakes, they've mysteriously allowed free rushes at least half of his snaps. I cant remember this happening with such regularity at any time but Georgia last year.
On his long completion to Ronnie today, he was hit by 2 defenders who both had free runs.
What the literal F?
September 17th, 2022 at 5:12 PM ^
The crowd booing Cade last game was bad, but the o lines protection of Cade has been significantly worse.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
QB depth just got a little hairy. Hope Cade is okay, but we’d better hope McCarthy can stay healthy for the duration.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
It's unfortunate, but I think we're in better shape than most fans think. Bowman was a P5 starter and Warren would have been a top recruit had it not been for his injuries in high school.
September 17th, 2022 at 5:56 PM ^
Exactly correct and you can make an argument based on stats that Bowman is the best QB2 this year
