Brian Kelly dancing with another recruit

Brian Kelly is absolutely hilarious! He is like the real life version of Michael Scott.

This video is a perfect example of the various types of intellect or lack thereof everyone possesses.  Kelly might be brilliant in certain ways, but is absolutely tone deaf in his inability to see how incredibly cringe this video is on so many levels.  From his horrid dance moves, to the sexually suggestive positioning of himself behind the recruit...  Harmless fun I guess, but even as a dude I invoke the male equivalent of "ew" that my wife uses all the time.

I understand Kelly being tone deaf to everything going on in these videos because he's an old guy, but what about everyone else that's helping put this together? This has to purposefully be bad, right? Surely there's gotta be someone behind the scenes thinking "yeah this is stupid and I ought to say something"? The entire thing is mind-boggling to me and I think someone should do a study on it.

Anyways, I popped on over to the LSU forum and they've got a 4 page thread going on about it right now. It's pretty damn funny...seems like there's one genus of forum users that thinks it's dumb and another genus that thinks the other genus is too dense to understand it. I only skimmed it, but this gem popped out:

This has a strong Les Miles vibe to it. The kind that everyone thought was hilarious quirkinesses when we were winning and nauseating dumbassery when we were losing.

"The entire thing is mind-boggling to me and I think someone should do a study on it."

A study on what, exactly?  That people make poor choices?  This is probably something the kid wanted to do and Kelly said 'sure'.  I've no doubt that someone in Kelly's orbit asked 'why, coach? probably not a good idea', and Kelly's response was 'it's just fun, wth?', and everyone in the area acquiesced - which is what people normally do when the boss says 'do something'.

This is cringey, at best.  It's neither criminal, newsworthy, nor sexual - unless you take it there (I don't mean you, specifically, Pastor, I'm using the term generically).  I don't have any qualms in saying that Kelly does not want sex with the players on his team.  I will say, though, that there are probably a couple in his orbit that would help cover that up if it happened - even if only by refusing to acknowledge it or talk about it.  No study needed for them, though - they're just assholes taking the easy path, because the right thing to do is often the harder road.

I agree with everything else in both OPs, but the study comment got me (sorry!).  I'm going to re-engage the trigger lock now...

No, no studies! A more apt description of my feelings would be along the lines of "I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they were mapping all of this out". My personal thoughts are that, yeah, it's just something silly and there's no such thing as bad publicity (or is there?). If the first one made a splash you might as well go on ahead and do another one.

The mind boggling, should do a study on comment was a complete exaggeration - I'd almost say tongue in cheek. My bad.

Whew...  Not only is my trigger locked, but its back in the safe now!  LOL!!

I'm not even sure why that got me!  Maybe 'cuz the wife and I have been watching 'The Morning Show' on Apple TV?  (BTW, have to recommend that - both Jen Anniston and Steve Carrell are hella better actors than I had ever given them credit for!)

It's just more evidence that he is not a genuine person. We talk about Harbaugh being himself 24 hours a day at maximum volume. We all probably know people in our personal lives who are like that. The genuine ones may come off as awkward at times but that's more a reflection of not caring what other people think. You always know where you stand with them. They'll tell you what they think rather than what they think you want to hear.

With someone like Kelly, he just tries to fit in, he probably holds grudges and resentment,  because he's a people pleaser. I can only imagine what his interview at ND was like. Did he stop I the middle of it to do the rosary and say Hail Marys? The look on his face in this video says it all. He's just doing what he thinks will make him fit in at LSU.

I’m either completely out of touch with the kids these days, or this is the dumbest thing you could possible do. Or both. Either way, imagine being a grown ass adult and having to do this for your job…

Brian Kelly seems like a humorless stiff to me. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy who fraternized with his players at all -- they're here to do a job, and so is he. My guess is that someone in the AD said to him, "Our fans want to get to know you personally, and they want a coach who really loves his players. How can we show them that?" And then this terrible, embarrassing idea was born.

Well, if nothing else, he's leaning into it.  Given we now have 2, I suspect there will be yet ANOTHER dancing video out before the season starts.  I look forward to it.

As for Kiffin, he's simply setting himself up for a loss to LSU this fall.  Didn't we do this already at some point, Kiffin trash-talking Florida in the off-season and then predictably losing to them when it mattered?
