Board Poll: Predict MSU Fallout
A. Bridges will play out the rest of the season. Izzo will claim, “Yahoo said they were done, but we weren’t finished yet”. Business as usual in EL, nothing to see here.
B. MSU will sit Bridges for the rest of the year.
C. Emmert will sit all players named in order to avoid having this news overshadow March Madness.
D. Other, please show your work
I could actually see C happen. History indicates that the NCAA comes down much harder on individual players while protecting cash cow programs and coaches. Imagine the firestorm if teams implicated (Bridges/MSU, Carter/Dook, etc.) make deep tournament runs. It seems like it would be in Emmert’s best interest to avoid that by sitting these players immediately.
What say you?

D. Izzo will resign. Miles Bridges will classify for draft. Probation for program.
Combined with the other stuff uncovered recently - WAY worse than Tressel situation.

I doubt Izzo resigns right before march madness, especially considering he's perpetually chasing that elusive national championship.
I bet he holds out and attempts to "gracefully" retire at the end of the season

Izzo, the angry leprechaun, will be forced to share his lucky charms.

Prediction?
Pain.
I don't hate Izzo, I pity the... wait, yes, I do hate him!

THe NCAA will immediately suspend all players mentioned until the FBI releases its full report. For MSU, it doesn't rain but it pours. This is minor compared to the sexual abuse scandal at MSU. The situation at MSU is now worse than both Baylor and PSU.

Bridges plays out, State wins the B1G Tourney and National Title, and 3 years later it is revoked and runner-up Villanova will sell really ironic 2018 Nat. Champ shirts .
February 23rd, 2018 at 12:52 PM ^
Nothing happens, MSU wins the BTT, goes deep in the NCAA tournament, then everything is vacated in about five years when the investigation is over. See you then for the outrage-fest.
February 23rd, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
If Mitch McGary gets suspended for half a year by the NCAA, I dont see how they can justify having Miles Bridges play in the tournament when he violated rules.

Half season and he probably stays.
February 23rd, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Although your insight is spot on, "I don't see how they can justify..." is not part of the NCAA's equation.

I'll believe in Izzo's downfall when I see it. He is Rasputin without the swell beard. He's the best thing MSU has going and they aren't going to let go of him without a fight.

at least not right away... I do agree with others though, in that Izzo will find an all to convenient excuse to retire after this season. I don't know if that is a good thing.

From glancing at the article comments on numerous various outlets , Sparty fans are all-in on claiming BS on everything and how the media is out to get them. They are sort of like Penn St fans a few years back. What a shame but no suprise when you look at the shit-bags on tv that consist of The Izzone.
February 23rd, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
A for sure. The investigation won't be done until way after this season is over. So if the NCAA sat Miles that would mean they would have to do the same with Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc. That is not going to happen.
The worst I could see happening is MSU winning it all and then having to vacate the wins later.

In this whole thing, the FBI is the wildcard. We are so used to the ineffectiveness and weakness of the NCAA that we automatically assume nothing will happen. Normally, that would be the only assumption to make. However, if the FBI squeezes the NCAA behind the scenes, something different might happen. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

when i was in law enforcment they were known as the 'Fumbling Bumbling Idiots' because so few of them had knowledge of how to investigate crimes. i say that with a large grain of salt, in that what was really meant is that though they have many talented people, it was just that so few of them have any actual policing experience and some of that is essential to many investigations.

Nothing will much happen now. Izzo and MSU are too close to their possible 2nd title to care. And this is just enough of a grey area that they might feel confident they'll be able to fight it.
That said, I'm sure the NCAA is shitting bricks for more names to be dropped.
February 23rd, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
that well.
I thnk they lose in the round of 32.

He sits for games maybe including the 1st round in the NCAA tournament. After MSU does a self investigation and concludes that he is free and clear, he suits up for the 2nd round and beyond.

MSU process:
1) Scapegoat Nassar
2) Blame everyone else
3) Whataboutism / everyone does it
Wash, rinse, repeat
What's sadly ironic is how all of their fans just a year or two ago would claim moral high ground over the Kentuckys, Kansases and Dukes of the world, not to mention Michigan over $$$ and stretching. I guess the standards change based on who gets caught....
February 23rd, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
You only have to go back 1 week... When rumors started coming out they were celebrating what was going to happen to those programs. None were realistic enought to think MSU could be involved and that they should've been nervous.

A similar opinion in the Nasser/Mork/Izzo scandal, nothing much will happen.
February 23rd, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
Granted they'd have to return any money won, but that's a moot point. I think the schools will play the kids and go with the Cam Newton defense.
Plus, if the NCAA suspended all the kids, there would be lawsuits all over the place that would probably not be heard until after the tournament.
February 23rd, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
Izzo to make deep run in the tournament as his players fight for their embattled coach. After the season all wins are vacated and he retires as a shamed and defeated man who cared more about himself than the University (exit stage left). Dantoni coaches the spartans to a 7-4 record and then takes "dream job" as a coaching analyst for the Cleveland Browns (exit stage right). These guys are toast.

Emmert/NCAA will be implicated as having knowledge and looking the other way, step down amid new amid overt shame. The remaining leadership in the feckless organization will fail to do anything until a new pres is appointed. Former Gov. John Engler will step in as the new NCAA pres and bring his molly maids with him.
