You're just too negative, Don.  I never said anything about who is a real Michigan fan.  Let me repeat it for you so you understand: You're too fucking negative and all your whining and BPONE sky is falling schtick is MAKING THINGS WORSE.  If you're this negative and whiny about something you profess to love, maybe you should think about finding something else to "love."

If I am quick to jump on people it is because the negativity within the fanbase is becoming OPPRESSIVE and making us out to be little whiny cunts ... sorta like you.

I get the frustration, but even if Michigan loses Washington to OSU, what are we really losing? OSU picks up a coach that was here for one year and is an ace recruiter... in the last state OSU needs help recruiting in.

Yes, Washington is a great recruiter. There are more Al Washington's out there. I

I'd like to keep him, but we would not be losing the be-all-end-all to successful linebacker coaching/successful recruiting in Ohio.

I'm not convinced this is a huge coup on OSU's part like you seem to think it is.  This is the equivalent to hiring away Brian Hartline as our OC.  I think we would both lose on that one, just like we're both losing a bit in this transaction.  OSU fans aren't doing backflips on this one.

Best comment and perspective I’ve seen in a while. tOSU doesn’t need a Dline coach, they already have the best one in the country. A senior advisor and half a DC, well that’s a risk despite how bad Schiano was.  Forget about titles, it’s not a tOSU upgrade to land Mattison in the twilight of his career.  Curlous move actually.

Washington, that is a true upgrade if he goes  as the LB coach because Davis was horrible, but there aren’t any recruits tOSU will pick up that they wouldn’t have got him.  He had 1 year at UM, was anything really lost?

I see a bigger upside for UM than a downside. No recruits will be lost, they already signed. Harbaugh can make two splash hires and get the positive buzz going if he plays it right.

The only question I have is if there is smoke in the program. So many players sitting for bowls and potentially 2 D coaches leaving is truly just normal January activity unless they are related.  Tbh I’d be more excited about who may be brought in rather than who left.

What does that even mean?  I am sure Harbaugh is just "sitting on his ass" while all this is going on.  If Harbaugh wants to keep Washington he'll match or beat the offer.  If not, he won't.  If Washington wants to go to OSU regardless of the offer from Michigan, so be it.  There is nothing Harbaugh can do to "protect" his house.  Good lord.

Do you think it's hard to learn these things?  I don't.  I spent 30 mins. watching RPO videos on YouTube and reading a few X's & O's Blogs and I have a pretty good handle on it.  Now, I wouldn't say I have anywhere near the ability to coach it, but I understand it.  Harbaugh, by contrast, grew up surrounded by coaching terminology, and has FORGOTTEN more about football the collective intellect of MGoBlog will EVER KNOW.  He can learn it easily.  The "right man for the job" would have learned it at some point himself.

You guys make this shit out to be some sort of mystery.  Michigan Arrogance nearly ruined the program in 2007, and if there is anything negatively effecting the program today, its negative Nancy's like yourself.

This "full control" shit is ridiculous. Does the offense need a tweak in the passing game? Yes.

Is some abominable tire fire? Not even close.

I do agree Pep's contribution as "passing game coordinator" is suspect, based on what the concepts of our passing game look like. It doesn't help he really doesn't contribute at all to recruiting as well (what would ya say ya do here.gif).

Jim Harbaugh is not some mind numbingly dense play caller and offensive mind, actually he's quite the opposite. Just a new influencer in passing concepts I think would be all he needs.

Will the last person to leave the Michigan football program turn off the lights, turn down the thermostat, and lock the door behind them? Thanks.

It's this comment, Don.

Mattison and maybe a LB coach leave and it's, "shut the lights off ... "

Fuckin' A man ... Oh wait, you were a Michigan fan in the 70's so that gives you license to shut it all down because YOU are disappointed.  Well, I was a student in the 90's, grew up in Ann Arbor, was family friends with Bob Ufer and his family, and sat next to Mrs. Carr for 5 seasons, and I say "Leave the Lights on ... " because I am happy with the trajectory of the program.

“Those who stay will be” what? Harbaugh torpedoed that quote anyway, by adding “and work hard”.

That modification changed the underlying meaning to the quote. The original quote put the onus on the cosches, it was “believe in what we’re doing and stick it through and you will be a champion” Harbaughs quote places the onus on the player “if we aren’t champions it’s cause you didn’t work hard enough”

I get going after Washington; he's a good recruiter and seems like a solid position coach.  But I don't see why Day looks at UM and thinks that is the defense he is dying to have.

"But I don't see why Day looks at UM and thinks that is the defense he is dying to have."

That's what's so strange about all this. If we'd shut the Bucks out 45-0 I could understand their desire to poach our defensive staff, but after scoring 55 on us, you'd think they'd be looking elsewhere.

What is going on with our program?  I get that assistants leave, recruits decommit and players transfer all the time.  But it truly seems like something is all of a sudden off with our team.  In the last month or so:

1.  Aubrey Solomon - a 5* recruit who was already getting significant playing time and was a lock to be a started and anchor of our D-line next year- transfers out, surrounded by some strongly worded tweets / posts by those around him.

2. Before him, James Hudson - another player almost certain (or at least likely) to start next year - transferred out without explanation.  He is from Toledo, so I can't see distance being the issue.

3. Half of the starting D, as well as Higdon, decide to sit out the bowl game.  Sure, there are always a handful of sure first-rounders who sit out the bowls, but Higdon is, at best, a late round pick.  So is JBB.  Even Gary, while I understand that he is going to do well in the combine and likely end up in the first round, after such an uninspiring Michigan career, you would figure that he would want to go out on a positive note.  Just seems like the whole "the team, the team, the team" thing isn't resonating with this group.

4.  While I know that the offensive game plan against OSU can be criticized, it just seemed like the team, with some obvious exceptions, lost their fire.  They came out flat and deflated.  Something was off.  Whatever that something was it was also apparent in the two prior games against Rutgers and INdiana, in which we should have cruised to easy wind but played flat.  Compare the team's energy over those three games against the energy over the prior 4-5 games.  Not even comparable.  And the trend continued - worse - in the bowl debacle.

5. Now we hear that our longest-running assistant has left.  That happens.  But to go to our most hated rival?  At the end of a career in which his longest-standing employer was Michigan?

Sorry, but something is just off with this whole program.  Most teams that have 3 ten-win seasons out of 4 are on a hugely positive trajectory and are aiming to shoot up to the next level.  We are in the process of crashing as a program.  Something is wrong.  When Harbaugh was hired, many said "he won't last past 4-5 years because he always wears out his welcome over that time."  I sincerely hope that isn't the case.

This is so bizarre. They just torched us for 62 points, and could have had 21 more if their receivers didn’t drop a few. I feel like I should be angry/scared, but if I were an OSU fan I’d be asking WTF? Sure, they’ll be better against the B1G teams, but I don’t think poaching our D will help them succeed in playoffs or against Purdue/Nebraska.

And the most devastating thing of the OSU game was that it didn’t feel like an outlier. It felt like OSU was going to torch us for the next 15 years.

The most devastating thing of the bowl game was that it felt like the secret spread beyond OSU and out best unit was going regress to the mean.

I guess I’m now at least interested in cfb during the off-season. Can’t say I expected to be if you asked yesterday.

Even including OSU always beating us, by a lot this year, and PSU blowing us out last year, we still had one of the best defenses in the country every year under Brown. It's ridiculous to say our defense sucks because of three or so bad games over three years while ignoring every other game and the fact that the fancy stats includes those games and still says we've been great.

HollywoodHokeHogan

January 7th, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^

Don’t tell that to the board.  They all know that Don Brown sucks and should be replaced by Mattison, whose defenses everyone bitched about when we lost all the time under Hoke.  They all know that Tampa 2 is the greatest defense ever invented and that no offense has routes designed to beat zone coverage. Don’t tell them about stats, they have feels!

Something strange is happening. I can’t u sweat and how our 70 yr old D Line coach who has said since day 1 this is where I w retire and all of a sudden gets up and leaves for OSU....

My gut says either he has a personal issue w the coaching staff or something happened.

I bet he planned on retiring this year and told JH this was his last year and now wants to maybe stay but other arraignments were made.

Either way something fishy is going on and I don’t like it and if Washington leaves we have something serious going on in AA.
