Big Rain Coming for the ND Game + Who is Going?

Submitted by xtramelanin on October 25th, 2019 at 5:37 AM

Mates,

So the good news is that for the last day they aren't talking about having any thunder/lightning in the forecast.  The bad news is that we have gone from rain or showers all the way to 1"-2" of rain - that's a big time front coming through. Here's what it says:

Saturday

Rain, mainly after 3pm. Patchy fog before 9am. High near 56. Light east northeast wind becoming east southeast 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night

Rain before 8pm, then showers after 8pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 50. East wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Further discussion here:  widespread rain developing 18-00z Sunday with trowal maintaining rain through Saturday evening/night.... supporting heavy rainfall even with thunderstorms likely hard to come by[.]

Rain will overspread Se Mi from south to north Saturday afternoon and early evening and persist through Sat night. The period of peak rainfall intensity is expected to occur between 7 PM and 5 AM. The combination of weak instability and high moisture content will support widespread rainfall amounts in excess of a half inch. Probabilities that total rainfall amounts between one and two inches have been rising the last few model trends.

Bottom line:  dress appropriately

Secondly, who is going to the game?   Rain or no rain, I am hoping for a great one under the lights.

I plan to be there in a group of four. If the primary ticket holder (not me) decides to sell the tickets and head to Fraser's, I might be open to that arrangement.

Of course I will be there. This is a huge game for the narrative around the program. I don’t think rain clearly helps either team, so I don’t mind it. A good start is even more important though, we won’t come back from 3 scores tomorrow.

Hopefully Columbus and east Lansing have some bad weather, would increase odds for Wisconsin and MSU.

Get to see how the new Event Team jackets shed the rain and keep me warm for 6+ hours.

XM, will you be down early enough to hit a tailgate? Are you driving home right after the game?

i am neither a gentleman nor a big money donor, but even a schmuck like me might have a friend or two.  a couple of years ago i got on the field with my 3 middle sons and it was really special.  i hadn't been on that field since my senior year, last game, vs. ohio (a win...).  you don't appreciate that when you are 21, but when you come back decades later, it hits home in a pretty cool way.

I’m with you XM, I was on the sideline for about 5 minutes of playing time for homecoming vs. NW a few years ago. Jourdan  Lewis picked six right in front of me. A few minutes later I was singing with the NY Philharmonic (right behind the trombone) singing Carmen and Beethoven’s 9th. Will never forget or probably top.

1-2 inches with locally heavier amounts...I was planning to be there but won't if the forecast doesn't change.

Ticket prices on Stubhub seem to be heading south.

I'll be there.   I've already endured 2 High School football games that were torrential downpours.   This seems to be the year that it's going to rain for most football games.

Sparty must be elated.   They are hosting PSU and they love this shit.   Their field is a swamp in dry weather.   They can bog PSU down and win on a last second field goal.

MSU - 3

PSU - 2

RAIN PONCHO BANG!!!

And yes, I'll be there.  We'll be tailgating at noon, hoping to get a few dry hours before the rain takes over mid-afternoon.

My lovely wife and I will be there. We never miss, no matter what. Tailgate starts at 3pm, and then we'll gear up and head into the game.  We'll use our rally towel giveaways to wipe off the wet seats!  The Special Operations Command Para-Commandos will prove their mettle if they can do their pregame parachute jump into the stadium in the weather conditions we're likely to have. Go Blue!

I’m assuming this is the front that was blasting Texas yesterday? Is there any chance it takes a more Eastern path than Northeastern? Seems incredibly slowmoving and way south still to know it is going to blast us.

Edit: I now see a big front in Western Canada, which makes more sense. Hopefully it breaks up over the Rockies or something.

I’m thinking now, purchasing tickets to MSU game may have been a better choice! I’d rather sit in snow than rain although a cold rain in November isn’t any fun either.
For those of you going, for your sake I hope the forecast is wrong! Go Blue and beat Notre Dame!

I'll be there - although with this forecast i'm seriously considering changing my attire from maize/blue to include some fall outdoor woods-wear that is made for this.  May not look the part - but sure is much more comfortable for this weather.

I'm sort of in a quandary about going to the game.

I've tried to off-load 2 of my 4 tickets, so my wife and I could go, pay for a nice dinner before the game and have some time sans children. But with prices dropping precipitously since the weather report yesterday, I might have to get rid of them for far below face.

But I also have to coach my oldest son's soccer game earlier in the afternoon, with an 80% chance of rain. So I'm not looking forward to spending a collective 10+ hours in the rain between soccer, pre-game, and game (including possible OT - think OTL 2011). I have visions of being laid up on the couch with pneumonia for the next two weeks.

Now, I'm all about going by myself (hell, I can take a nap on my four seats if I want!), and did so last year for the PSU night game when my wife was under the weather.

I'm trying really hard to bend my mind to not inversely correlate rain/storm chances with likelihood of going to the game. Especially since I'd like to see some revenge for the last two games against ND, and being that the next time we might play them at home is still not settled.

So, I'll probably be there. Think I'll go to MDen and snag some warm, wet weather gear.

Yet another example of Michigan's confounding bad luck:

Prior week: Night game at opponent's stadium.  Perfect weather.  Big crowd advantage.

This week:  Night game at home stadium.  Deluge.  Crowd factor severely dampened (pun intended).

HOWEVER - I will say this.  And at this point fuck jinxes.  Michigan has never lost a home game since the new end-zones were painted (at the beginning of the 2018 season).
