Beat Iowa Game Thread

Mates,
Kick off in 15 minutes.  The front page basically says it's a toss-up.   If we make our 3's we will be just fine.  Miss them, and trouble lurks, though we were only 4-20 from 3 in Iowa City and still won.  Let's hope Diabate stops K. Murray and Hunter feasts.

Meanwhile, ohio is thumping sparty with just a few minutes left in that game.  Could still be a meteor strike, but at least sparty will extend their losing to something like 7 out of the last 9.

Go Blue, beat Iowa!

Not sure why Diabate got so many minutes tonight, especially when Michigan had a shot at a comeback. It was evident early on that he was a liability on both ends.

Iowa shot lights out and Michigan.... shot 4-20 to start the game... There's the story.

Defense remains horrible. Turnovers galore.

Overrated recruiting class; poor development; Howard needs to go back to the whiteboard this off-season.

Nobody should be leaving for the NBA this off-season. Frankie needs a shooting coach if he's going to be the PG of the future

Freshman are freshman.  Diabate will be a great player.  Had rough night.  Houstan really coming on.  Man, would be awesome if they both came back.  One can dream right?

Terrible performance on a must win night. Diabate was putrid, both around the rim and on defense. Way to many turnovers in a game that meant so much, is inexcusable. The entire team showed poor body language from the tip, which is puzzling coming off such a nice win and the stakes. I don’t know what to think now other than I may enjoy this season officially ending.

Moussa had 28 last time against Iowa. Tonight he was the worst player. Freshman are a bit weird. I have no earthly clue how you could draft that guy any earlier than the late second round, but I know NBA teams love potential. The late passes by Jones were baffling. It's not like Moussa had been tearing it up. It was a weird game. I like how Houstan got a steal and blocked a shot late. He doesn't need to be very quick laterally because he's 6 foot 8. On the other hand....beat OSU or it's NIT time.

Hate to toot my own horn but I have to say I called it right at the start. you can tell right from the tip off they were never gonna get it close but they were always gonna keep it within a range of 8 to 10. That’s basically how it played out and it’s how almost every other game has played out for the past two months

Emotional win against MSU apparently sapped all the strength out of these guys. Surprised they couldn’t put a good first half together with everything at stake. Now a worst case scenario: beat a rival on the road to even have a chance at the big dance. Totally disheartening.

Michigan's offense is very reliant on being efficient from 2 and so they're not really built to come from behind. They play slow and rarely get out into transition, and can't really shoot well. Being so bad on defense really hurts if the offense isn't keeping pace.

A few observations from being at the game tonight.

Team look tired, but so did Martelli. I know he always does, but he really doesn't even attempt to do much besides standing in a spot. Sometimes I think it's good to let the refs know you are there and not happy with the lack of calls. Thought he could of called a timeout sooner in the beginning. I think we let Iowa go 4 for 4 from three to start . Needed some energy this was a huge game .

Why are we trying to force feed Diabate in the post? Is he even a good option for that? His first 2 shot attempts were forced and awkward. He doesn't have great hands, and not a great touch to be fair .

Why didn't coach see if Collins could spark us, Jones wasn't doing anything. Iowa is a notoriously bad defensive team, why not see if Collins can get things going. Jones gave us nothing tonight as a facilitator. 2 costly and absolutely unacceptable turnovers at the end of the game.

Also why does it seem so many visiting teams shoot lights out vs Michigan from 3? Is Saadi Washington another Don Brown? He is our Defensive coordinator. From my untrained eyes we give shooters too much space. We allow them to go up clean and shoot in rhythm. Are we trying too hard not to foul a shooter? That's bad also.

Also wanted to add wow on Keegan Murray! Very impressed with his game. Nothing forced. Has the whole package. He's 6'8 and was only a 3 star in HS.

I think he is what we hope Caleb Houstan can become. I think that's a really good comparison. Obviously Caleb has a ways to go, but the similarities are there potentially.
