Band will not be at the Spring Situational Scrimmage

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

In addition to thousands of fans, the Michigan Marching Band will not be at the Spring "Game" on Saturday night.

I have a friend in the band who told me they were originally scheduled for the spring game but once it became apparent that it's going to be a "situational scrimmage", they called it off because the band won't have time to play.

There's going to be just piped in music playing the whole time.

Majority of players prefer piped in music as opposed to the band. Fans don’t wana hear that, but it’s a true sign of the times. Love me some Temptation and of course THE VICTORS!

I know this is probably not the popular opinion, but I kinda like that everything seems to be business only. Harbaugh just wants to win. He needs to just win.

Honestly I don’t give a crap. spring games are things we enjoy when we are winning. I would rather they cancel the public event and prepare for the season if it means a better outcome on the field in the fall. Because if it doesn’t no one will want to see them play in a spring game anyways. I believe in Harbaugh this is our year 2018!! Go blue!

My son is in the band.  The major reason is that the kids are working on finals and there was little interest so the director canceled it.

The football marching band really isn't even a thing in the spring.  Once the bowl game is done, the band doesn't get together again until late summer, and with new personnel.  Sure, hockey and basketball bands are still going, and those are mostly made up of people from the marching band.

I would have found playing in the spring game to be somewhat of a PITA personally, though I could see them sending the Fanfare Band or something just as a PR thing.

This is actually ok news for me. It’s the one time I’ll accept the band not being the soundtrack of Michigan Football. This is an event in which we should give the players what they want. It’s a practice! The fans can come enjoy watching Michigan Football for lower prices. This should be about the players getting a hard practice done. I’m love how JH is all business right now. Fan interests, the band, and less piped-in music are should only be concerns in the fall. Not the spring.

The game format is fun for fans but I'm looking forward to see the groups play together. I'm especially looking forward to keeping an eye on the OL as an entire group.
