Band will not be at the Spring Situational Scrimmage
In addition to thousands of fans, the Michigan Marching Band will not be at the Spring "Game" on Saturday night.
I have a friend in the band who told me they were originally scheduled for the spring game but once it became apparent that it's going to be a "situational scrimmage", they called it off because the band won't have time to play.
There's going to be just piped in music playing the whole time.
Yo WD, you posted the spring line from Nike a few weeks back. When is that hoodie with the arched "Michigan" on the back going to drop at the mden?

Sucks that we don't have an actual game this year. Hopefully it's just a one time thing. The past three years were killer with the goal line touchdown.

My son is in the band. The major reason is that the kids are working on finals and there was little interest so the director canceled it.

The band never went to the Spring Game when I was in school. The subject was never even broached. No one cared. It's a practice. (shrug)
The football marching band really isn't even a thing in the spring. Once the bowl game is done, the band doesn't get together again until late summer, and with new personnel. Sure, hockey and basketball bands are still going, and those are mostly made up of people from the marching band.
I would have found playing in the spring game to be somewhat of a PITA personally, though I could see them sending the Fanfare Band or something just as a PR thing.
Well, there's Spring Meeting, but yeah. It was really never a thing. Give the kids a break.

I don't even remember if we had the Spring Meeting back when I was around. Probably did--I just don't remember it.
May have been a later innovation. Basically just a vehicle for DM auditions and instrument turn-in and such.

They weren't there last year either... It really doesn't matter and no one really cares
The game format is fun for fans but I'm looking forward to see the groups play together. I'm especially looking forward to keeping an eye on the OL as an entire group.
