I think serving a 1 game penalty and paying a $10k fine but allowing M's part of the narrative to come out would be ok, as long as the "sources" made private apologies that leaked without their names for acting like a mob and pushing a narrative that this illegitimizes anything the players have done and claiming that this was the worse cheating scandal ever

Owns the rights to Michigan games, period? Or owns the rights to Michigan games on X,Y, and Z channel?
I'm genuinely curious because if it is the former...

Michigan is not creating its own broadcast of the game right now, in part, because it is more lucrative not to.
If they were to flip a bird to the B1G, well that changes the equation.
At that point the Big Ten Network, and B1G broadcast partners (Fox, CBS, NBC) would be off-limits, presumably.
But a direct to consumer model would be available, and I imagine Michigan has the resources to figure that out.
ESPN is available now too....and I don't imagine ESPN turning down exclusive cable rights to Michigan games.
Especially in this hypothetical world where Michigan is either an independent or in a new conference.

The B1G own the media rights, period.  A member school would not be able to produce their own games, those rights were packaged and resold to the networks.  I don’t know if there is a buyout clause, but if so it so it would likely be so high that it would not be feasible.

I hope Santa takes a firm stance against any punishment being levied before an investigation is concluded with an opportunity for us to respond. Thank God it's not a meeting with Warde

Originally, it was reported that he was only planning to be in town for field hockey semifinals and not planning to interview anyone.

So I hope Santa took the initiative and asked for this meeting in order to clarify our position to Petitti (and maybe remind Petitti what his job is).

Santa's already doing Warde's job too, so why not add the B1G Commissioner's job to the list?

If we've learned nothing else, Santa Ono is a fucking gift of a president.  I don't ask for much, but being proactive, expressing support of our institutions no matter what without setting us up for ridicule, throwing our weight around in a constructive useful manner, good PR, etc.

This guy is everything I've wanted Warde to be

I mean that is just factually not true. The investigation may not be complete but Ryan Walters literally gave a quote that they have the evidence that has been leaked. Literally everyone not commenting on this blog including the Michigan football team has acknowledged what Stallions did is a violation of the rules

Wait a sec. Wait one goddamn second. You are telling me the coaches decide what is evidence and what punishments to enforce? The NCAA has a job to do and let them go do it. When allegations are presented we have 90 days to respond. That is it. You dont create some super mob court in the moment. The fuck is wrong with you?

The 2 game suspension is seemingly based on Thamel reading a page in the conference commissioner's manual and extrapolating.  Which, to be fair, is about his level of journalism.

Yes, the commissioner has wide latitude to levy a 2-gane suspension and a $10k fine but he'd absolutely be setting himself up for a precedent that would be demanded of all other infractions.  Some kid gets busted for PEDs?  2-game ban on the coach.  Coach is found to be tampering with a potential transfer?  2-game suspension.  It's all about fairness and sportsmanship, isn't it?

So yeah, I'd be a bit surprised if UM agreed to anything right now especially since there's no reason to believe the Big 10 or the NCAA would just let this go as suitable punishment because of it.
